In the Republican period, Ye Yiquan built Jiangwan Horse Racing Club, which was the first one that allowed the Chinese to
participate in. A century has passed. The existing materials about the club are difficult to find and the memory of Jiangwan Race Club is vague. In order to re-evoke people’s memories of the Club, the article tries to include as more materials as possible and depicts the Club in the Republican times from the following aspects: 1) The building scale of the Club, including site selection, floor space and ground construction; 2) Operation of the Club, which can be seen indirectly through the time table of the horse racing and the tax situation; 3) The end of the Club, i.e., the ownership of Jiangwan Race Club. The article aims to help people have an all-round and objective understanding of the horse racing operation at that time. |
