As is known to everyone, Henry David Thoreau was an outstanding American writer in the 19th century. However, he did not attract much attention at that time. In fact, Thoreau did not have a profound influence on American culture until the 20th century. It is generally acknowledged that his masterpiece Walden is one of the most outstanding literary works, in which the richness of thoughts contributes greatly to the spread of Thoreau's philosophy. Thanks to it, Thoreau's philosophy has attracted more and more attention. It is pleasantly surprised for a Chinese reader to find Confucianism in an American classical work of the 19th century. Many scholars have studied Confucianism in Walden in order to analyze how Confucianism influences Thoreau. However, these studies more or less overstate or understate the influence of Confucianism. Therefore, such a research does have great practical significance, that is, to objectively analyze how Confucianism influences an American writer and how it is repre?sented in his representative work. 相似文献

Despite the fact that the Maslow＇s hierarchy of basic needs has been vastly applied in literatures, a majority of resources has neglected to take the need to know and to understand into account. Moreover, there is a wide disagreement in the rest of resources in situation of that need. This article attempts to show that （1） Maslow has had faith in that need as a basic need; and （2） even though Maslow has not explicitly mentioned the situation of this need in his hierarchy, it is possible to find its situation through implications of Maslow＇s writing and other researchers＇ findings. 相似文献

A certain kind of culture always leaves its special stamp on its language which de- cides the relationship of culture and translation. Without mastering the foreign coun- tries＇ cultures, non-native learners may find it hard to understand. As we all know, humans use languages to communicate with each other, however, different kinds of languages may cause us many problems. Different cultures may conflict with each other, so a literal translation is not always the closest to the original meaning. Culture differences add difficulties to translation. That＇s why translation plays an important role in the different languages＇ communication. It is not because transla- tion is the transformation of language but also because it interprets culture. In the development of intercultural communication, translation has its undeniable mission. However, there appears a phenomenon in the highly advanced society that people are using more and more methods instead of translating to help communication. Naturally, people doubt whether the existence of translation is necessary; that is the key points of this thesis. Language is the carrier of a culture.It contains rich cultural information.Therefore translation is not merely to convert one language into another,and it is also a communication activity which involves converting one type of culture into another.Cultural factors begin to gain more and more attention of translators.we find that cultural differences pose major barriers in translating.A thing which is self-evident in one culture has to be painstakingly explained in another.The most serious mistakes in translating and interpreting are usually not the result of verbal inadequacy,but of wrong cultural assumptions.Hardly can any text be successfully translated without appropriately dealing with the differences between source and target cultures.Therefore in this paper I intend to analyse the differences between Chinese and Western cultures as reflected in translation,then to put forward some translation methods(domestication and foreignization)in dealing with them. 相似文献
