In 2017, the Riyad Nassar Library of the Lebanese American University – Beirut, Lebanon – conducted a student survey as part of its assessment plan to evaluate all functions offered to its stakeholders including space design. The results of said survey are discussed in this paper to ensure if the executed redesign of the library space, carried out during the last 5 years, helped in meeting students' perceptions and expectations. The authors will discuss the methods used to assess space change such as survey, behavioral observation and statistics as well as the challenges faced by the library during this process.  相似文献

SUMMARY

Augustana (located in Camrose, Alberta, Canada, and formerly known as Augustana University College) is an undergraduate liberal arts and sciences faculty of the University of Alberta with an enrollment of approximately 1,100 students. The fall of 2001 marked the inception of for-credit discipline-specific information literacy (IL) course offerings at Augustana. At that time, Augustana librarians began teaching two IL courses that were required for graduation for students in the relevant degrees (Bachelors of Music, Arts in Music, and Arts in English). Since that time, for-credit discipline-specific IL courses have been added in nineteen disciplines, bringing Augustana's total number of IL courses to twenty-one. This paper will give an overview of the development and implementation of these IL courses and will focus on the assessment practices to date. Specifically, data gathered from pretests and post-tests will be analyzed and results from a separate follow-up survey conducted of current students and graduates will be reviewed. In addition, an in-house Web-based assessment tool will be introduced and discussed.  相似文献

Abstract

Beginning in the 1990s, various academic units within our health sciences institution moved aggressively toward providing courses and programs via distance education. Without a centralized campus distance education office, distance library services from our campus evolved sporadically in response to individual needs. In 2001, the library hired its first distance services librarian, whose primary responsibility was to develop a written distance library services plan. In accordance with the ACRL Guidelines for Distance Learning Library Services, the library determined that the formulation of an effective plan required a formal needs assessment of the faculty providing distance education. In this paper, we will discuss the process for developing this needs assessment, based on focus groups and a written survey instrument. We will also address some of the challenges we faced with this approach. Preliminary data identified copyright clearance and lack of awareness regarding library services as the major barriers to distance faculty seeking course support from the library.  相似文献

Appropriate training is a major factor in the success or failure of any government publications integration into the general reference collection. In August 1992 the government publications reference collection at the University of Arizona Main Library was integrated into the central reference collection. This paper will discuss the integration process, the training methods, the survey used to determine the success of the training program, and the perceptions of competence in providing government documents reference, the results of a focus group (consisting of both Central Reference Department and Government Documents Department staff) that explored the question of training, and an assessment of government documents training and recommendations for future training programs. In addition, the University of Arizona Library System is in the process of restructuring its functions and services. Abstract

In contrast to many large academic libraries, Kansas State University (K-State) does not have a distance librarian. As a result, the Library Services Project Team (Team) was formed to take a fresh look at current library services for distance learners. Although the Team has been in place for over two years, and has implemented many changes, there was no mechanism for receiving formal feedback from students and faculty about these services. Because it is important to know whether services are being used, two librarians on the Team developed a Web-based survey targeted at distance faculty and students. This paper discusses the assessment project including development of the survey, the university approval process, use of an electronic in-house survey system, administration of the survey, and compilation and analysis of results.  相似文献

[目的/意义] 分析国内高校信息素养教学效果评价取得的成效、经验与不足,为后续实证调研提供参考。[方法/过程] 基于CNKI《中国学术期刊(网络版)》数据库,聚焦于信息素养教育与学生学习效果,利用系统综述方法对国内信息素养教学效果评价方法、评价类型、评价主体等进行研究。[结果/结论] 国内信息素养教学效果评价利用调查法、量表法、表现评价、小组评价等多种方法,取得了一定成就,但在评价方法的科学化、评价类型的多样化、评价主体的专业化方面还有待提高。  相似文献

Abstract

The Health Sciences Library (HSL) at Stony Brook University along with the School of Medicine were motivated to make improvements in seating and hours based on survey results from an LCME self-study. Preparation for the site visit from the Liaison Committee for Medical Education helped to garner resources and support for this initiative. To meet the evolving needs of the HSL patrons, librarians completed an overdue collection assessment project which allowed for 142 new seats, including newly designed spaces and furnishings. Ongoing assessment of the redesigned space will be conducted to evaluate success and areas for continued improvement.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

As staffing models evolve for academic library service points, online chat reference services require strategic analysis to improve efficiency and effectiveness. This paper will examine the perception of chat reference before and after staffing changes from faculty librarians, staff, and graduate assistants to non-MLIS library professionals and graduate assistants at Florida State University’s a large, public research university library. Our survey explores satisfaction levels and perception of both patrons and library personnel before and after the staffing change.

Our analysis of 197 patron survey results determined that patrons are equally satisfied with non-librarian provision of chat reference services and found chat interactions to be comparable in quality and timeliness to chats staffed by librarians. Our research into staffer survey results revealed a slight decrease in satisfaction with operation of the service, notably in terms of confidence after the staffing transition even though this was not reflected in the patron satisfaction levels. This assessment indicates that library workers are equally as competent in staffing chat reference services as librarians from patron perspectives. As academic libraries continue to measure the value of staffing service desks with librarians, this study will provide relevant insight into how patrons and staffers are affected by changes in staffing models.  相似文献

Due to an identified need for formal assessment, a small team of librarians designed and administered a survey to gauge the quality of customer service at their academic health sciences library. Though results did not drive major changes to services, several important improvements were implemented and a process was established to serve as a foundation for future use. Abstract

Assessment is an important part of any library service, including electronic reserves. This paper describes the assessment of electronic reserves services by means of a survey instrument administered at the University of Colorado, Boulder during the fall semester, 2003. As the University Libraries had moved from a predominately paper reserves environment to an almost completely electronic reserves environment at the beginning of that same semester, the survey offered a unique opportunity to compare student attitudes towards the two formats. We addressed planning for the survey, administering the survey, evaluation of the collected data, and reporting the results to teaching faculty.  相似文献

The purpose of this multi-institution study was to develop an understanding of where and how ranking lists are being used for the purpose of informing promotion and tenure decisions. Individuals were selected for this survey who, were at the time, serving in administrative positions at 115 R1 Carnegie research institutions. The survey questionnaire consisted of demographic, closed-response, and rating-scale questions designed to understand the respondents' experiences and attitudes concerning their academic department's promotion and tenure process. Results of this survey will inform librarians on practices associated with promotion and tenure involving open access publishing and the use of standardized journal lists.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In spring 2015, a 45-question survey was e-mailed to 585 medical students at the University at Buffalo (UB) in order to gauge their use of library spaces, resources, equipment, and services at UB’s Health Sciences Library and plan for a library space located within a new medical school building. Students’ self-reported use of the library during the academic year is presented along with the features they would like to see in their ideal library space. The responses generated in the survey are a barometer of current use and will be used in the planning process.  相似文献

[目的/意义] 科研评价实践中普遍使用的两种评价手段和量度工具是同行评议与计量为基础的评价(文献计量、经济计量甚至替代计量)。为了对比同行评议质量判断与计量为基础的评价结果的一致性,进而回答同行评议能否被新兴的计量评价方法取代。[方法/过程] 本文采用非实证的研究方式,收集前人在论文发表、项目资助、研发评价实践、个人颁奖以及Altmetrics计量评价领域应用两种评价方法对研发绩效测度的120多篇实证研究进行元分析并汇总成定量化综述,基于认知演化的视角进行系统记叙。[结果/结论] 传统同行评议为基础的决策判断始终是研发评价的首要量度工具且地位无法取代,它与引用为基础的计量评价结果在统计上仅存在适度的正相关性,Spearman秩相关系数r∈[0.24,0.88],地位上后者更应充当前者的补充而非替代,即建构在定量辅助基础上的知情同行评议模式不仅使评价结果更加客观透明,也添加额外的附加价值,通过数据来加深对问题的认识,为评价的黄金法则。  相似文献

Although federally supported geospatial data clearinghouses have appeared on the Internet, there exist few resources allowing for a coordinated collection of publicly available geospatial data over large areas. The completion of a national survey of potential producers of geospatial data provides users with a new way of learning about relevant, publicly accessible data when they embark on projects with a spatial component. This article presents a progress report on the National Survey of Geospatial Framework Data. The survey's methodology is described, allowing for readers to anticipate both the nature and extent of the survey results. Also described are the means by which the final results will be released. The survey results will serve as a major national source of information regarding where public geospatial data can be obtained at all levels of government. This article is intended to encourage access to the survey results so the results reach an appropriate audience while still timely and relevant. The National University Library Information Literacy Plan has been in place since 1999. Following a slow start, information literacy has begun to be accepted throughout the University. Faculty collaboration, dogged determination of librarians, and impressive assessment results have helped pave the way for this program. 文章采用网络调查法对面向全民的信息素养慕课的开设现状进行调查,并从课程建设规模与分布、团队建设、教学设计和内容建设等方面分析课程发展现状。研究发现已有的信息素养慕课的目标群体定位影响课程的内容建设、课程开设的主体和团队的合作方式单一、课程内容以技能教育为核心、信息检索内容体系倾向于采用混合模式,且存在通识性不足、合作范围小、内容设置比例失调、部分课程内容滞后、缺乏权威课程评价体系等问题。因此,建议后续课程建设可考虑明确定位目标群体、加强多主体合作、调整课程内容比例、动态建设课程和构建权威的课程评价体系等。  相似文献

Abstract

As distance education programs continue to grow, so do the services offered by libraries to the communities created by such programs. However, for these programs to be successful, the people that they are intended to serve need to be aware of the support and services available to them. Without such awareness, the services will go unused. Through a survey, the librarians at Emporia State University learned that making distant students aware of services was essential to the success of distance learning library services. Librarians discovered that creating a marketing plan to guide the marketing process was essential. This tool serves as a road map to visually illustrate the path from the conception of ideas to the realization of the marketing goals and objectives. This paper examines the process of writing a marketing plan and intends to illustrate how it can assist the library in marketing its services to a distant population.  相似文献
