Sharks
Many people believe sharks are dangerous and always try to hurt or even kill humans. In fact, 94 percent of the world's 400 species are harmless to humans. Sharks exhibition at the National Aquarium in Baltimore in US proves this. Visitors can touch young…  相似文献

Horses are sensitive to the facial expressions and attention of other horses, including the direction of the eyes and ears. The findings, reported in the Cell Press journal Current Biology on August 4, are a reminder for us humans to look beyond our own limitations and recognize that other species may communicate in ways that we can't, the researchers say. After all, human ears aren't mobile.  相似文献

This paper aims to study The Return of the Native from the perspective of ecocriticism.Hardy indicates nature pos sesses its intrinsic value and nature and humans are equal in the ecological system.Man’s alienation from nature leads to the dis harmonious man-nature relationship.Hardy argues that man should see nature’s intrinsic value and build harmonious man-na ture relationship.  相似文献

During ground faults on transmission lines, a number of towers near the fault are likely to acquire high potentials to ground. These tower voltages, if excessive, may present a hazard to humans and animals. This paper presents analytical methods in order to determine the transmission towers potentials during ground faults, for long and short lines. The author developed a global systematic approach to calculate these voltages, which are dependent of a number of factors. Some of the most important factors are: magnitudes of fault currents, fault location with respect to the line terminals, conductor arrangement on the tower and the location of the faulted phase, the ground resistance of the faulted tower, soil resistivity, number, material and size of ground wires. The effects of these factors on the faulted tower voltages have been also examined for different types of power lines.  相似文献

敢于失败
The world today loves a winner and losers are not tolerated. We have reached the stage where "Nobody should commit any error" and any one that does so is punished. It seems that if you are not number one or in the top five, you have failed. However ironic that it may seem, through the ages, humans have learnt mainly through mistakes to reach their goals.  相似文献

In recent years, human beings are facing the more and more deteriorating environmental problems, such as the sand storm, greenhouse effects, which are the nature’s punishment on human society. It’s self-evident that the relationship between human beings and nature is increasingly intense. Therefore,it’s essential for humans to consider how to establish the harmonious relationship between man and nature.Based on this problem, this paper intends to give a brief analysis of the Walden from the perspectives of"simplicity"and"equality"by using ecocriticism. The paper also gives the author’s personal understanding of the ecological thoughts embodied in Walden.  相似文献

<正>As the world struggles to deal with the climate crisis, some companies are working to remove polluting carbon dioxide from the air. That’s a bulky and challenging goal, but two US companies have recently made important progress. Scientists say there’s so much CO2 in the atmosphere. That means humans need to come up with ways of removing carbon from the air and storing it. This is called Direct Air Capture(DAC).  相似文献

Mycoplamas are a group of wall-less prokaryotes widely distributed in nature, some of which are pathogenic for humans and animals. There are many lipoproteins anchored on the outer face of the plasma membrane, called lipid-associated membrane proteins (LAMPs). LAMPs are highly antigenic and could undergo phase and size variation, and are recognized by the innate immune system through Toll-like receptors (TLR) 2 and 6, LAMPs can modulate the immune system, and could induce immune cells apoptosis or death. In addition, they may associate with malignant transformation of host cells and are also considered to be cofactors in the progression of AIDS.  相似文献

Human nature is one of the most thoroughly studied topics in human history.Even today the argument continues in all different social contexts, and by studying Conrad’s two stories:Heart of Darkness and The Secret Sharer, the author tries to analyze the two sides of the nature, both good and evil, which are inherent in us humans. In the essay the author explores the two heroes in the stories and tries to prove that only when we realize and admit our capability for the evil, can we make the good and kind side of nature to flourish.  相似文献

Saving the Earth
As time goes by,humans are making the Earth sick.People cut down too many trees and leave more and more rubbish here and there.Factories let out their waste without doing anything to it.All of these have caused many serious problems.More and more good land has turned into deserts.Rivers and lakes have been polluted and the water in them becomes dirty and poisonous.  相似文献

<正>Many of our memory systems are driven by one single, powerful urge: to survive. We seem to be hard-wired to remember routes, so we can navigate our local environments safely. We’re also naturally talented at recognizing faces. Ever since we lived in groups, we humans have needed to know who’s “part of the pack”, and who isn’t, as a vital part of staying safe.  相似文献

<正>When you’re asked to think about AI, what comes to mind? Chances are that your idea of artificial intelligence will have roots in pop culture. Perhaps you will think of HAL or SKYNET, evil machines that’re set to overthrow or even kill humans. Maybe the concept of AI makes you think of friendlier characters, such as R2D2 and C3PO from Star Wars.  相似文献

INTRODUCTION Nitrate and heavy metals commonly found ingroundwater pollutants constitute significant healthrisk to humans and a burden on the environment.Mixtures of these compounds often exist in soils andgroundwater at numerous contaminated sites. Highnitrate (NO3 ) levels in drinking water supplies sig- ?nificantly endanger human health, as they are directlyresponsible for methemoglobinemia in infants (bluebaby syndrome) and may play a role in the develop-ment of som…  相似文献

Intuitive and efficient interfaces for human- robot interaction (HRI) have been a challenging issue in robotics as it is essential for the prevalence of robots supporting humans in key areas of activities. This paper presents a novel augmented reality (AR) based interface to facilitate human-virtual robot interaction. A number of human-virtual robot interaction methods have been for- mulated and implemented with respect to the various types of operations needed in different robotic applications. A Euclidean distance-based method is developed to assist the users in the interaction with the virtual robot and the spatial entities in an AR environment. A monitor-based visualization mode is adopted as it enables the users to perceive the virtual contents associated with different interaction methods, and the virtual content augmented in the real environment is informative and useful to the users during their interaction with the virtual robot. Case researches are presented to demonstrate the successful implementation of the AR-based HRI interface in planning robot pick-and-place operations and path following operations.  相似文献

Obtaining an electrocorticograms (ECoG) signal requires an invasive procedure in which brain activity is recorded from the cortical surface. In contrast, obtaining electroencephalograms (EEG) recordings requires the non-invasive procedure of recording the brain activity from the scalp surface, which allows EEG recordings to be performed more easily on healthy humans. In this work, a technique previously used to study spatial-temporal patterns of brain activity on animal ECoG was adapted for use on EEG. The main issues are centered on solving the problems introduced by the increment on the interelectrode distance and the procedure to detect stable frames. The results showed that spatial patterns of beta and gamma activity can also be extracted from the EEG signal by using stable frames as time markers for feature extraction. This adapted technique makes it possible to take advantage of the cognitive and phenomenological awareness of a normal healthy subject.  相似文献

Language acquisition is genetically determined capacity that all humans are born with.It is important to recognize that any child who is capable of acquiring some particular human language is capable of acquiring any human language spontaneously and effortlessly.Whether first language acquisition is an obstacle or a helper towards second language learning is what has puzzled thousands of learners for long.Only when we have a research into the differences and similarities between them can we apply some of the knacks for first language acquisition to second language learning, thus helping the learners and teachers to work more efficiently.  相似文献
