In the Ode to the Grecian Urn Keats came to the realization that the immortality he had quested for is a myth that cannot be interpreted. The marbleized sacrificial rite on the ancient urn implies that human life is a process of endless sacrifice. This inevitable recognition of mortal limitation during the process of human growth can not be dissolved by the soothing oracle that Beauty is truth, truth beauty'.  相似文献

William Wordsworth was the representative of the British "Lake poets" In his poems he aimed at simplicity and purity of the language, fighting against the conventional forms of the 18th century poetry. He transformed his observation of the landscape into the revelation of the beauty of nature in poetry, and thus expressed his nature philosophy. In this article the author briefly analyses the organization of his poem: "Ode: Intimation of Immortality" and mainly elaborates her understanding of the poet’s na-ture-philosophy in four points:(a) Man is sensitive to all natural influences in childhood.(b) Nature has a moral and spiritual sig-nificance and helps the poet understand the mystery of human life.(c) Life is but a stage.(d) All good poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings;it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.  相似文献

It is generally acknowledged that the first 17 sonnets of Shakespeare is a set of poems to urge a young man to get married and have a baby so as to immortalize his beauty. However, these sonnets mirror Shakespeare’s mediations on life and death.Man is by nature mortal being, and time is the enemy of life.To endure beauty long, man can fight against time by means of child-bearing and poetic creation. The first 17 sonnets address the theme:the essence of life is to create.  相似文献

James Joyce is one of the greatest pioneers of Modern novel history. The Dead is the most famous story in his early short story collection Dubliners, and is widely recognized as one of the finest short stories in the English language. This study tries to analyze the hero Gabriel’s mind change:from "living dead" to "reviving after death" from his epiphany, indicating that there is merely a delicate line between the two:death is the end of life as well as the beginning of a new life for death actually carries within itself a new life.  相似文献

William Wordsworth was England’s Poet Laureate. He is the Romantic poet who is most often described as a"nature"write, and he is always sensitive to every subtle change in the world around him. In my opinion, his love for nature is boundless. To him, nature acts as a substitute for imaginative and intellectual engagement with the development of embodied human beings in their diverse circumstances. It’s nature that gives him knowledge and strength. In this paper, I want to narrow Wordsworth’s conception of nature, and then we can find the harmony in the community of men and nature.  相似文献

The play Death of a Salesman is undoubtedly the most influential play of Arthur Miller which depicts a tragic life of Willy Loman, a travelling salesman, induced by his false American Dream of making a fortune out of business. Unlike many other essays focusing on the hero Willy, this one tries to explore Willy’s dead brother Ben’s function in this play so as to demonstrate that Ben plays an important role in Willy’s life by making Willy’s life more tragic in terms of Aristotle’s tragic theory. The first part of the essay illustrates Ben’s importance to Willy and the second part centers on the way Ben pushes Willy to a more tragic situation.  相似文献
