I'll never forget the small classroom I always went to when I was a pupil. I found it just by chance in my primary school. When I entered the first time,I couldn't help considering staking it out, for It was evidently seldom visited by others. So I did it and It became my secret place.  相似文献

Invisible Racial Disparities 隐形的种族差异 One aftemoon when I was going out to do some errands (差事),I sew three young men, about 15 to 17 years of age, standing in front of a house in my neighborhood, chatting and laughing.I took a notice of them because they looked different and kind of out of place:They were not white.I continued on to run my errands without thinking too much of it.When I came back about an hour later, there was a police car parked in front of the house where these young folks were. After I drove around the comer,I saw a second police car,and one of the three youths was in the back seat of the car, handcuffed (带着手铐),with two officers questioning him.A thought shot across my mind:Are these young people members of a local youth gang,or are they just in a wrong neighborhood?  相似文献

I was driving my dad's old Caddie on the interstate in Florida, when I came across the sign forthe“World's Largest Flea Market.”At one booth, there was a sign“8-Track Tapes bought and SoldHere!”Then,it hit me,something had to be done about that ancient collection of Dad's 8-tracks inthe trunk of the car.Talking to the dealer, who was a retired cop,he said he'd be glad to take themoff my hands, and pay me a few bucks to boot! The cop came up to me,took my license, and examined it and the car. Finally he came up to my  相似文献

Mother’s Love
Who gave birth to me 14 years ago. Of course, my mother. My grandma often tells me when I was just born, I looked so small and thin, only nearly 5 Chinese pounds. So doctors put me into a warm box for weeks. My mother came to see me everyday although she was weak. I can't feel my mother's love at that time but I can feel it from my grandma's words. I was so thin and small when I was a baby, so I was always ill in my childhood. A day of my sixth year, I didn't feel well and had a stomac…  相似文献

God’s Gift
God gives us gifts when we have trouble, but whether you can accept the gift largely depends on you. When knowing my score in the key exam on Senior Grade 3,I really felt hopeless.A bad beginning meant a bad end to me.I had no courage to tell it to my mother. At weekends I got home under the impression that she would blame me,but a sumptuous dinner special for me proved that I was wrong.Maybe she wanted to reduce my heavy pressure. But much to my surprise, she took her cup and congratulated me …  相似文献

Pets are wonderful creatures! I had my first when I was just a little boy;a hamster called Cloudy. He was a very talented escape artist, and figured out how to open the door of his cage. Fortunately, whenever he escaped he'd hide in the same place, and so he was always easy to retrieve. After him we got a cat, a black and white tom called Oscar. A grumpy animal, he was also very smart - he had a catflap, and a magnetic collar that opened it, and he used to use it to let his other cat friends into the house, so that we'd come downstairs in the morning and find two or three of them scattered around the laundry.  相似文献

My son Jonathan just got his first US passport.I went to the US Consulate General (总领事馆) to pick it up for him.A staff person behind the heavy bullet-proof (防弹的) window asked me to sign the passport for my son and put "by father" after the signature. As I was signing the new passport,a thought went through my mind,"What if Jonathan should not like my handwriting when he grows up?"  相似文献

I was driving down the 1)reeway one afternoon, sometime in 1977. I was listening to the radio when the song Magdalena by Danny O'Keefe, sung by Leo Sayer, came on.I liked it immediately. My favorite line was "Your love is like a 2)razor.My heart is just a scar." As I continued to drive down the road the thought came,I don't agree with the 3)sentiment.I was younger then.I didn't think love is like a razor. What, then, did I think love is? Suddenly,it was as if someone had opened a window in the top of my head.Words came pouring in.I had to keep 4)reciting them to myself as I drove faster and faster towards home,so I wouldn't forget them.I 5)screeched into my drive way,ran into the house, and sat down at the piano.Ten minutes later,The Rose was there.  相似文献

It was about ten years ago when this happened. One evening, I was walking along a street, humming a tune. Soon a factory was in sight. As I was passing by it, a big dog rushed out from the factory, barking ferociously. It jumped up and tried to bite me. I was frightened terribly. I took to my heels and ran as fast as I could.  相似文献

Everyone, I wonder, may cherish a dream when he or she was in the childhood. To be a policewoman, attiring in an imposing uniform and arming with a polished sword and an exquisite pistol, was such a dream that I yearned for at that carefree and wishful age. And it never occurred to me that I could become an English teacher by profession after graduating from a major which is totally unrelated to language. It was my first part-time job while I was on campus that intrigued and inspired me to take up teaching as my lifelong career.  相似文献
