The previous studies show that the major problems faced by the students in writing can be classified into two categories, that is, they don’t know"what to write"and"how to write". The researchers found that the specific problems existing in their writings are identified as poor content, incomplete generic structure and misuse of cohesive devices. Therefore, on the basis of the previous studies, this study attempts to use Martin’s genre theory to resolve the existed problems of the Professional College English major’s students in writing and enhance students’ discourse writing ability. Meanwhile, this study tries to answer the following questions:(1) Compared with the traditional writing teaching methods, whether the genre-based writing method has a significant effect to improve students’ writing skills;(2) Whether the genre-based writing method is possible to increase students’ interest in writing. The experimental result and the questionnaire show that genre-based approach in ESL writing teaching really can improve students’ writing achievement and enhance students’ interest in English writing.  相似文献

Brown and Levinson’s face theory is a theory of interpersonal relationship. It has successfully explained the influence of "face"in people’s daily communications. The theory is built on the basis of western culture and ignores the cultural difference of "face"in China. It is not free from limitations the absoluteness of which exerts a checking effort on its universal applicability. Jef Verschueren is the representative of European Continental pragmatic thought.He puts forward a new theory that pragmatics is a perspective on language and he uses the theory of adaptation to analyze pragmatics."The general concern for the study of linguistic pragmatics is to understand the meaningful functioning of a language as a dynamic process operating on context-structure relationships at various levels of salience"(Verschuren 2000:69).The focal points in contexts are the utterer and the interpreter,for the physical,social and mental aspects of contexts are activated by language users’cognitive processes.Verschueren divided interpreter’s roles into five types:addressee,side participant,bystander,listener-in and eavesdropper,which can explain the adaptation of context and language choices.This is also applicable in college English classroom as the English class is also a context.At present students taught at the same time by the same teacher do not master the knowledge at the same level.One of the reason is that students are not engaged in the class at the same level.According to the Verschueren’s theory,the best English teaching class is one that each student in the addressee of teachers.Addressee is a metaphor which means everyone should follow the teachers’explanation carefully and take part in the teaching activities.It has something to do with interaction theory,which considers students as active individuals but not passive receivers.One of the common interaction patterns is questioning.In this thesis,the question how to make students addresses through adoption of questioning approach in college English class will be researched.  相似文献

Though China’s present situation in English language teaching is quite favorable,some problems are still very outstanding.It seems that the communicative competence of Chinese students is not that satisfactory.The Communicative Language Teaching(CLT) approach,which regards"communicative competence"as the goal of language teaching,is becoming more and more popular in China’s English language teaching.This paper shows that the CLT approach does work in improving students’ communicative competence to some degree,through reviewing relevant literature on this approach.However,it is not a panacea to solve all the problems occurring in students’ communicative competence for it also has some weak points.Several suggestions were proposed to enhance students’ grammatical competence as well as the communicative block due to cultural differences.It is also advisable for teachers to be as flexible as possible in choosing the teaching techniques and adding whichever input needed to effectively achieve the main goal of making students both grammatically accurate and communicatively proficient.  相似文献

Transitivity system is the core part of systemic-functional grammar,which aims to expose the relationship between language and ideology.This thesis uses comparative methods to analyze the news discourses of the Copenhagen Conference.The study notices that the coverage of news discourses in The New York Times is not as neutral as that in China Daily.Based on the theory of transitivity,on the one hand,it proves the applicability of transitivity to news discourse analysis.On the other hand,the present study tries to provide readers with a different perspective of understanding language and a critical reading method,which helps to raise readers’ awareness of ideology.  相似文献

Recently, a great tide of English teaching reform swept across China, advocating the innovation of educational concept and teaching mode. However, the phenomenon of rigid uniformity in teaching process is still commonly seen, neglecting the individual discrepancy of students. The individual discrepancy is manifested by both the congenital heredity and the acquired disposition. Supported by the Chinese traditional theory of teaching students in accordance with their aptitude and Vygotsky’s "the zone of proximal development" theory, this paper illustrates the importance of paying attention to the individual discrepancy from the perspective of students’ growing background and personality.
