The present United Kingdom government has continued its predecessor's close involvement with influencing education policy in England, affecting both the curriculum content of schools and the teaching methods used in its delivery. This article argues that by doing so, the government is bringing about a significant change in teachers' professional status. A new breed of teacher is emerging, characterised by a willingness to comply with the government's wishes and concentrate wholly on raising pupils' examination results. At the same time, those teachers who place an equal emphasis upon establishing and maintaining harmonious relationships with their pupils are being marginalised. As well as regretting the abandonment of the nurturing principle, the article concludes that a culture of compliance is at the expense of divergent thought and critical practice. Teachers are in danger of losing their ability to exercise autonomy, influence education decisions or oppose unsatisfactory, centrally imposed measures. Such impoverishment degrades rather than enhances professional status. 相似文献

Nietzsche, German philosopher, who has had a great influence on the transformation of western philosophy from the contemporary to the modern, is a non-rationalist. Since the birth of Nietzsche's philosophy, evaluation from the international academic circles on his thoughts has been mixed. The "Superman" philosophy is an important part of Nietzsche's theory. He believes the spirit of strong will and that the development of man is endless, finally, we will have a "Superman". This theory has broken the tradition of western rationalism, the moral tradition of Christianity and the cultural tradition of the enlightenment since Socrates. In this paper, a new nonlinear formulation of plates, including shear and rotatory inertia and transverse normal stress effects,
is developed by means of general assumptions, of which the von Karman-type formulation and some thick plate theories are special cases. To keep the formulation fairly general, the problem addressed
in this paper simultaneously includes: the effects of shear deformation according to the geometric deformation similarity
of the cross-section, the rotatory inertia, and the transverse normal stress. The three-dimensional compatible equations are
applied to derive the basic equations. Numerical results are given for linear and non-linear analysis of plates.

Scholars often use Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Bourdieusian analyses with the aim of studying inequities in education. Despite their usefulness and popularity, a theoretical discourse between the two frameworks has not yet transpired and the two are sometimes constructed as incompatible, if not at odds. The argument in this essay is three-fold: (1) CRT has never fully engaged with Bourdieu’s Theory of Practice, (2) Bourdieu’s Theory of Practice and CRT, although distinct, are not necessarily in opposition, and (3) CRT and Bourdieusian concepts have the potential to inform each other, resulting in a more nuanced engagement of the interplay between structure, agency, and racial realities in education. 相似文献

Questionnaire and interview findings from a survey of three Year 8 (ages 12–13 years) science practical lessons (n = 52) demonstrate how pupils' data collection and inference making were sometimes biased by desires to confirm a personal theory. A variety of behaviours are described where learners knowingly rejected anomalies, manipulated apparatus, invented results or carried out other improper operations to either collect data which they believed were scientifically correct, or achieve social conformity. It is proposed that confirmation bias was a consequence of the degree to which individuals were laden by theory, and driven by this, experimenters assumed one of three different personas: becoming right answer confirmers; good scientists; or indifferent spectators. These personas have parallels with historical instances of scientific behaviour. Implications of a continued teacher‐tolerance of pupil confirmation bias include the promotion of unscientific experimenting, and the persistence of unchallenged science misconceptions. Solutions are offered in the way of practical strategies that might reduce experimenters' theory‐ladeness. 相似文献
