This paper was intended to investigate the effects of using e-books (or texts with multimedia support) in an ERP (extensive reading program) on EFL (English as a foreign language) learners' attitudes toward reading in English. In a junior high school in northern Taiwan, 109 students from 3 intact classes were recruited in the 10-week ERP of e-books. Each class was introduced to a list of 140 selected e-books for the reading program; each student was then encouraged to read e-books after school, with the target of reading 4 e-books every week. The degree of changes in reading attitudes was assessed by using the reading attitudes scale (Stokmans, 1999) before and after the e-book ERP. In addition, the teacher's class notes of the students' reading behaviors and reactions as well as their spontaneous oral or written feedback were analyzed to be triangulated with the quantitative data. The results showed that the e-books had positive effects on the students' attitudinal changes in all dimensions of reading attitudes, namely, utility, development, enjoyment and escape, as well as in all the cognitive, affective and conative components. The results also showed that the features of the e-books, especially oral reading, highlighting, animations and music/sound effects, were considered important to change their attitudes. The implementation of interaction and learner control in the e-books guaranteed positive attitudinal changes as well.  相似文献

Information and communication technology (ICT) has been considered as an enabling tool for having more effective and efficient operations in the management of logistics and supply chains for many years. Various information and communication technologies are used to improve perfor- mance of the logistics and supply chain network, such as "data mining", "radio frequency identification (RFID)", "machine learning", "smart transportation". While ICT systems are vital components in logistics and supply chains, their successful management rests on intelligent and inte- grated decision making throughout the logistics network. Intelligent decision technologies are applied to collect and store real-time data and then analyze and interpret the data and information of product, inventory, manufacturing and sales to discover useful knowledge for making better operation and management decisions. Advanced simulation and optimization of planning and scheduling systems are also used for improvement of inventory, production, pro-curement, and distribution planning. Intelligent agents can communicate with different partners in the supply chain, assist in collecting information, share product information, negotiate prices, and distribute alerts throughout the logis- tics and supply chains networks.  相似文献

First musicians using polyphony and homophony in their compositions can be seen during the 19th century in Turkey. These talented amateur composers, who worked in simple forms, such as marches or educational music, were not actually professional composers but either orchestral or choral directors. Later, during the Republic period (after 1923), "Turkish Five" emerged. "Turkish Five" consisted of professional composers who were educated in Europe and learned western musical forms. These musicians, according to their birth years, are Cemal Resit Rey (1904-1985), Hasan Ferit Alnar (1906-1978), Ulvi Cemal Erkin (1906-1972), Ahmet Adnan Saygun (1907-1991) and Necil Kazan Akses (1908-1999). "Turkish Five" achieved important accomplishments and did significant contributions to Turkish contemporary music in 30-40 years with their efforts. While doing this, they used over 500-year old musical legacy of the West. At the beginning, these musicians used Turkish folk tunes and their rhythmic and modal system, however, later, they began to use "impressionism", "neo-classicism" and finally "atonalism" in their music. In the current study, the contributions of "Turkish Five" to contemporary Turkish piano music and their approaches to piano education were examined via literature review. After an extensive research with the literature on the topic, the researcher has interviewed with six piano teachers from different music institutions in Turkey (including two schools of time arts, two conservatories and two music teacher training schools). During these interviews, the contributions of the "Turkish Five" were examined based on "relativity" and "local to global" principles in education, and the researcher has searched for the ways to use more of their music in piano education through the interviews. In this work, polypropylene (PP)/polystyrene (PS) blends with different organoclay concentrations were prepared via melt compounding. Differing from the results of previous reports, the organoclay platelets are mostly located in the dispersed PS phase instead of the interface. The dimensions of the dispersed PS droplets are greatly reduced and apparent compatibilization effect still exists, which cannot be explained by the traditional compatibilization mechanism. A novel compatibilization mechanism, "cutting" to apparently compatibilize the immiscible PP/PS blends was proposed. The organoclay platelets tend to form a special "knife-like structure" in the PS domain under the shear stress of the continuous PP phase during compounding. The "clay knife" can split the dispersed PS domain apart and lead to the dramatic reduction of the dispersed domain size.  相似文献

The medium of (oral) language is mostly disregarded (or overlooked) in contemporary media theories. This "ignoring of language" in media studies is often accompanied by an inadequate transport model of communication, and it converges with an "ignoring of mediality" in mentalistic theories of language. In the present article it will be argued that this misleading opposition of language and media can only be overcome if one already regards oral language, not just written language, as a medium of the human mind. This paper fall back on Wittgenstein's conception of language games to try to show how Wittgenstein's ideas can help us to clear up the problem of the mediality of language and also to show to what extent the mentalistic conception of Chomskyan provenance cannot be adequate to the phenomenon of language.  相似文献

Many secondary teacher preparation programs require that undergraduate candidates complete a literacy course, usually taught within a college of education, where 30 or more teacher candidates from various majors are enrolled in the same course. University instructors teaching literacy courses may have difficulty in developing course content and assignments which are relevant to all teacher education fields. This paper explains how one university implemented a literacy course for PETE (physical education teacher education) majors only, in order to focus on how literacy can be incorporated into high school physical education courses. Nineteen teacher candidates were invited to register for a section of literacy in the content area for PETE majors. Multiple means of data collection were employed to engage participants (pre- and post- surveys, electronic discussion board and interviews). The purpose of the study is to find out if it is beneficial for teacher candidates to participate in a segregated content literacy methods classes compared to traditional (mixed majors) content literacy methods, and the impact of a non-traditional teacher education literacy class for PETE candidates. Recommendations for future research in regards to working with content literacy across various content areas are made.  相似文献

And then a new algorithm of the inverse problem was designed to construct the masses and the spring constants from the natural frequencies of the "fixed-fixed" and "fixed-fres" spring-mass systems.
