ABSTRACT The instructional leadership role of the principal has received much attention in the literature. The present study draws upon emerging research and explores the basis for predicting school academic achievement from the instructional leadership behavior of principals. A model of instructional leadership was examined to determine its predictive power in correctly identifying high‐ and low‐achieving elementary and high schools in two distinct cultural contexts. A total of 265 teachers and principals from California and the Marshall Islands participated in the study. The results indicate that school academic achievement can be predicted from a knowledge of principal instructional leadership behaviors. The theoretical and practical implications of the results are discussed. 相似文献

Understanding about human origins informs our understanding of what it means to be human. It is reasonable, therefore, to consider that an evolutionary perspective can provide insight into the nature and processes of human learning and education. This article reviews how ideas about evolution have influenced educational thinking in the past. It then considers how understanding of brain development and function is helping to inspire “new thinking” about evolution. The review converges on a range of benefits that may arise from the inclusion of evolutionary concepts within the field of mind, brain, and education. These benefits include scrutiny of evolutionary neuromyth, reconsideration of the cultural and political status of education, insight into notions of individual difference, and help with stimulating and directing research efforts aimed at improving educational outcomes. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: The study addressed the hypothesis that adults reporting sexual abuse are more likely to exhibit a general tendency to ruminate on sadness. The relations between reported abuse, rumination on sadness, and dysphoria were also examined. METHOD: Undergraduate students (101 women and 100 men) reported on childhood and adult sexual abuse and instances of intimidation, as well as completing the Rumination on Sadness Scale [Journal of Personality Assessment 75 (2000) 404] and the Beck Depression Inventory [Depression: Clinical, Experimental, and Theoretical Aspects, Harper & Row, New York]. RESULTS: Participants who reported more abuse were more likely to report rumination on sadness. Both reports of abuse and of rumination were linked to dysphoria. Overall, causal modeling indicated that two models were equally effective in accounting for the data: (a) victimization leads to dysphoria, with this relation being partly mediated by rumination and (b) victimization leads to dysphoria, which in turn leads to rumination. Both models are consistent with prior research. For men considered separately, both models were equally effective. For women, model a best accounted for the data. CONCLUSION: One of the pathways by which victimization may lead to depression in adulthood is by encouraging the development of a tendency to ruminate on sadness. Alternatively, victimization may lead to depression by other means, and the experienced depression or dysphoria may foster rumination. 相似文献

诗的体裁分类,前人有风、雅、颂三分法,风、赋、比、兴、雅、颂六分法二说.六分法来源古老,最早见于<周礼·春官·大师>"大师教六诗日风、日赋、日比、日兴、日雅、日颂."<诗>原也是歌、器乐、舞蹈的统一,<周礼·春官·大师>的六诗,本是根据歌乐的表述方式的不同."六诗"基本按风(徒歌)、赋(吟诵)、比(和唱)、兴(合唱)、雅(配器乐)、颂(配打击乐和舞蹈)这种音乐性递增的次序排列,是依乐序设教的.所以,"六诗"本是歌乐的六种表述方式.当口头传唱的歌乐发展成为文本的诗后,"六诗"名称虽得以保存,而其原始功能却丧失了.延用下来的"六诗"职能因此发生了根本变化.赋、比、兴发展为文辞的修辞手法;而风、雅、颂则充当了区分<诗>的内容的类别. 相似文献

Although in the long run, neoliberalism has a track record of undermining equity and democracy, in the short run it has directed attention to education needs that have been inadequately addressed. This article sketches what teacher education in the US can do to advance equity and democracy in five areas: recruitment and admission, early fieldwork, professional coursework, student teaching, and on-going professional development. The article then examines three neoliberal pressures teacher education: (1) away from explicit equity-oriented teacher preparation, and toward preparing teachers as technicians; (2) away from defining teacher quality in terms of professional knowledge, and toward defining it terms testable content knowledge; and (3) toward shortening university-based teacher education or by-passing it altogether. It concludes by emphasizing the importance of collaborating with underserved communities as a way of pushing back against neoliberalism. 相似文献

Recent research and practice in detecting and controlling for cheating on objective tests are reviewed briefly, and results of a small survey of attitudes and practices concerning cheating are summarized. Two computer programs, Cheat-1 and Cheat-2, prepared by the writer to detect cheating by error-similarity analysis procedures, are described. The use of multiple answer-sheet forms and success with this method in controlling for cheating on classroom tests are described. The paper examines the influences on, and consequences of, low achievement defined as scores within the lowest achievement
quartile. Low achievement is moderately associated with socioeconomic background and Indigenous status and the relationships
with gender, ethnicity, region, family type, state and region differ for reading and mathematics. Low achievement substantially
reduces the chances of school completion and university entrance. It has much less impact on other forms of post-secondary
education and training. There are stronger differences in labour market outcomes between low and higher achievers for young
women than for young men. This study suggests the policies promoting the securing of full-time work soon after completing
full-time education should reduce the detrimental effects of low achievement on labour market outcomes. 相似文献
