Translation is a linguistic activity, trying to change speech or written article from one language into another one. It not only includes the content but also the form. Abstrct: According to College English Curriculum Requirements(2007), reading is the main training aim of our college English teaching. And for the college graduates, reading is the main way through which they obtain information needed in their specialty.Most often, students think their problem in reading is vocabulary, which is not necessarily true. Sometimes even the readers look up all the new words, it is still hard for them to understand the text exactly and thoroughly. Though vocabulary plays an important role in reading comprehension, it may not be the biggest hindrance on our way of correct comprehending. English reading teaching shouldn’t be confined to the teaching of vocabulary or sentences but should develop students’ ability to analyze text beyond sentence level. It’s impossible to cover all the aspects of discourse analysis in one article and since cohesion is important and basic knowledge of discourse analysis, we will concentrate on the cohesive functions of discourse in English reading in this article.  相似文献

Vocabulary acquisition is increasingly viewed as crucial to language acquisition.Meanwhile,learning vocabulary is often perceived as a tedious and laborious process.Chinese students usually feel bored in vocabulary lessons because they have not changed their learning habits,such as writing word on paper,trying to learn by heart.To help students find vocabulary lessons more interesting,we can use games.This paper analyses the traditional method of teaching vocabulary is not effective,whereas there are some advantages of using games,such as,games bring in fun,games are motivating and create context for language use and then gives two examples of applying games in my vocabulary teaching.Students prefer games and puzzles.Games motivate and entertain students but also help them memorize and recall the material easily.The conclusion is that learning vocabulary through the games is an effective and interesting means which should be used in any classrooms.  相似文献

Different nations have different social cultures, and the social culture of every nation is developing with the development of the nation, language is greatly influenced by social culture, which enables language to possess national and historical characteristics. Word is the smallest, independent, meaningful linguistic unit of language. It can well reflect the national and historical characteristics. From synchronic aspect, the social and cultural influence on word meaning is mainly embodied in conceptual and associative meanings of word. The incorrespondence of word meaning is a phenomenon that exists in both conceptual and associative meanings of word among different languages. From diachronic aspect, the development of social culture causes some changes of word meaning to some extent. Cooperative learning and learner autonomy have become heated topics in English teaching.Many researchers both at home and abroad have carried out the study on this field,and they proved that learner autonomy and cooperative learning are rel evant,cooperative learning can promote English majors’learning autonomy in terms of listening,reading,speaking,however,no obvious findings in vocabulary and writing.This study is conducted to prove the feasibilities and effectiveness of cooperative learning applied to foster first-year non-English majors’learning autonomy from the aspect of vocabulary and structure.The re sults of this study showed that cooperative learning was much more effective than traditional teaching approaches in fostering some positive affective factors.According to this research,cooperative learning can also improve learners’vocabulary and struc ture significantly.  相似文献
