Ancient Roman Cult of Dionysus,Wall Paintings and Perspectives It would be false to say that our modern-day society does not place a great emphasis on outwardly physical appearance. This includes things like the way individuals portray themselves and the way we decorate the interior and exterior of our homes. Interestingly enough, ancient Roman society also valued outwardly appearance and places an emphasis on the different ranks in society. Many times, the grandeur and lavishness of one's clothes and home indicated one's status in society.  相似文献

The paper presents an analytical study on the American society through a popular American drama series "the Desperate House Wives". Typical American values can be found everywhere on the show as they have been ingrained in the soul of the American people. As a nation with not very long history but great achievements, its people are the one that should be highlighted. Unlike China, the nation of which have formed since thousands of years ago, so has its culture, America’s history is an immigration history. People started migrating from other parts of the world since the 17 thcentury and gathered at the land of America to build up their new homes and realize their dreams. They influence each other and fuse with each other. America is one of the countries in the world that plural cultures successfully mix together. The paper focuses on the American people’s daily life to explain to the readers the American traits and values prevailing in their society. Except the Foreword which is the general introduction to the paper, this paper is presented in five parts. The first part to the forth part are the emphasis of the paper which respectively analyze the American traits and values. A series of vivid examples are provided with a wide range of study objects, man and woman, kids to elders, in hope of making the paper understandable and persuasive. It is expected that the study can offer a general idea to the people who are interested in the American society and its people.  相似文献

In Western countries,WWI fostered a major change in attitude by bringing many women out of their homes into new spheres of action, and brought birth to the " new women" and the booming of feminism in United States.Bernice Bobs Her Hair, published in 1920 and collected in Flappers and Philosophers,is a well-known short story of early Fitzgerald. The two heroines-rural girl Bernice and her cousin Marjorie, who was an urban gardenia girl-both had their long beautiful hair cut passively. This paper attempts to reveal the traditional patriarchal shadow deep inside the " new women",by the analysis of psychological changes and their incentives in Bernice and Marjorie through three phases:before Bernice talking about haircut, haircut as Bernice’ s chatting topic and after haircut,to search for the real meaning of New Women, which,as the writer’ s opinion,New Women are not the females getting rid of the constraints of " angle",such as " beautiful long hair",but the females who take the responsibilities for the societies, their families and themselves based on their feminine essence.  相似文献

The traditional way to innovate is to carve a specialized niche. Some building contractors specialize in renovating nineteenth-century homes. Lawyers practice trade law, criminal law, family law, labor law, immigration, copyright, or libel. Doctors can be ear-nose-throat specialists, gerontologists, or pediatricians. Specialization is efficient; specialists do their.jobs faster because they know them better than nonspecialists. And a niche is usually more profitable than the mass market from which someone sliced it. The trouble with a niche is that when competitors recognize it's profitable they rush in.  相似文献
