What is the sky? Where is it? How high is it? What lies above the sky? I am sure that you have asked questions like these. They are very difficult to answer, aren't they?Perhaps we can answer some of these questions now. What is the sky? It is vast space. In the sky there is the sun, the moon, and all the stars.Scientists have always wanted to know more about space. They use telescopes to obtain information. But this  相似文献

Learning a language is much more than learning its vocabulary and grammar rules, but also culture, and every culture in each nation has distinct characteristics that made it different from every other culture. This thesis begins with the relationship of language and culture, then analyses the present situation of culture-introduction in the English teaching, explains and points out its necessity and great significance, further puts forward some effective ways of culture-introduction in the English teaching.  相似文献

The rapid spread of the 1889-1890 influenza epidemic was widely reported in the periodical press. As Londoners read that another European capital had succumbed, they were struck that the illness was not only travelling as fast as the news, but was also moving along the same routes. Although medical science quickly resolved that a germ was the cause of the illness, its mild nature but widespread social impact lead many to suspect that it was actually caused by newspaper hype. This link between the press and the illness made the epidemic seem a curious symptom of the modern communications technologies that increasingly defined the age.  相似文献

Although a commonplacestructure in nature, thehelix remains a mystery toscientific researchers. In biology, the structure is important as DNAis helical and so does the substruc-ture of many proteins. Since its dis-covery more than 50 years ago, thedouble helix has offered an impor-tant approach to interpret and makeuse of bio-organic structures. Yet,it is seldom to see a helical struc-ture formed by inorganic crystal-state materials.Recently a previously-un-known zinc oxide nanostructure that…  相似文献

After five years of arduous work, CAS scientists recently succeeded in determining the structure of lumbrokinase (earthworm fibrinolytic enzyme), shedding light on the understanding of this drug at the molecular level and laying a foundation for drug design based on its structure.Cardiac and cerebrovascular diseases are among the three most lethal illnesses now rampant in the human population. Eight years ago, Chinese scientists succeeded in extracting lumbrokinase from earth-  相似文献

This paper presents findings from quantitative analyses of UK press and print media coverage of evolutionary psychology during the 1990s. It argues that evolutionary psychology presents an interesting case for studies of science in the media in several different ways. First, press coverage of evolutionary psychology was found to be closely linked with the publications of popular books on the subject. Secondly, when compared to coverage of other subjects, a higher proportion of academics and authors wrote about evolutionary psychology in the press, contributing to the development of a scientific controversy in the public domain. Finally, it was found that evolutionary psychology coverage appeared in different areas of the daily press, and was rarely written about by specialist science journalists. The possible reason for these features are then explored, including the boom in popular science publishing during the 1990s, evolutionary psychology's status as a new subject of study and discussion, and the nature of the subject its as theoretically based and with a human, "everyday" subject matter.  相似文献

Knowledge management (KM) in project-based organizations has received substantial attention in recent years, as knowledge processes are insufficiently supported within the organization as a whole. This study specifically focuses on the project actor’s role in managing knowledge. From an actor’s perspective, the problems raised by knowledge embeddedness are identified as a key issue to link project knowledge and organizational knowledge. A conceptual framework is developed that addresses three different aspects of knowledge embeddedness: a relational dimension, a temporal dimension and a structural dimension. Three cases are studied, covering varying forms of organizations in different areas (a consulting firm, an R&D department and an industrial business unit). The results concerning the relational dimension indicate that project actors re-build the network of relationships supporting knowledge. Regarding the temporal dimension, and specifically in their professional field, actors frame professional knowledge related to their project experience. However, actors fail to surmount the problems raised by the structural dimension of knowledge embeddedness. The resulting recommendations for KM concern both Human Resource Management practices and organizational design.  相似文献

This essay analyzes how academic institutions, government agencies, and the nascent biotech industry contested the legal ownership of recombinant DNA technology in the name of the public interest. It reconstructs the way a small but influential group of government officials and university research administrators introduced a new framework for the commercialization of academic research in the context of a national debate over scientific research's contributions to American economic prosperity and public health. They claimed that private ownership of inventions arising from public support would provide a powerful means to liberate biomedical discoveries for public benefit. This articulation of the causal link between private ownership and the public interest, it is argued, justified a new set of expectations about the use of research results arising from government or public support, in which commercialization became a new public obligation for academic researchers. By highlighting the broader economic and legal shifts that prompted the reconfiguration of the ownership of public knowledge in late twentieth-century American capitalism, the essay examines the threads of policy-informed legal ideas that came together to affirm private ownership of biomedical knowledge as germane to the public interest in the coming of age of biotechnology and genetic medicine.  相似文献

We find that combined revenues for 10 major media in the United States have steadily declined as a proportion of overall economic activity or gross domestic product (GDP) from 1999 to at least 2009 (the latest year for which we have complete data). For individual media, we find a generally consistent pattern in which increasing revenues from Internet distribution are exceeded by declines in revenues from established distribution channels, with the exception of television and video games, whose revenues have so far kept pace with GDP. We also report a marked overall shift from advertiser to direct payment support for the media industries over this period. We consider four possible reasons for these revenue trends: shifts in consumer media usage, reduced appropriability due to more difficult copyright protection, inadequate advertising business models, and reduced costs due to more efficient Internet distribution. Our analysis suggests we may be entering an era of a declining size of media industries in terms of conventional measures, but not necessarily a falling supply of media products themselves.  相似文献
