The politics of children’s literature and the actors surrounding it have never been more visible than they are now, in the digital age. As one of the first children’s series to gain widespread popularity concurrently with the spread of the internet, the Harry Potter septet arrived on the global stage at the perfect moment to develop an avid, connected fandom. But the fandom has laid bare the many conflicting ideologies of the fans themselves and of the actors surrounding the texts. This article examines the contentious issue of gender nonnormativity and its relation to the Harry Potter texts, the queer/trans reading practices and political resistance common to the fandom, and the ongoing disagreements over gender, made visible on social media, between Rowling and the fans of her series. The article discusses the Harry Potter novels’ varied and conflicting ideologies; queer/trans readings of the Potter septet, including both invitations and resistances to queer/trans reading by Rowling herself; how gender is queered and queried in and through fan fiction; and finally, the recent hostilities between Rowling and her fans. It concludes by discussing the worsening relationship between Rowling and her fans and highlighting how fans are using their collective power to undermine Rowling’s gender politics through fan fiction. By doing so, the article traces the complex politics of the reception of books for young people in the digital age, demonstrating that authors’ powerful voices continue to shape readers’ responses to texts long after their publication but showing, too, that readers often resist authors’ attempts to influence not only their textual interpretations but their politics.

当代文坛，王充闾历史文化散文的地位、价值、特征已有定评。但是，在大量的研究文字中却少有从性别文化视角解读他的作品、研究渗透于其中的性别意识的。当然，这是一个很复杂也很微妙的问题。所以留下这种阅读空白，主要原因恐怕在于王充间没有像文学史上某些男性作家那么集中地去写女性题材，探讨性别问题，其历史文化散文的性别意识比较隐蔽，文本表层也呈现一种自在的和自然的状态，没有刻意张扬性别文化审美倾向。但这不等于作家的历史观和文化观中缺少性别文化视野，王充闾实际上是把性别问题、特别是女性问题视为历史问题和文化问题来审视和思考的，当他关注历史题材、建构新的人文精神的同时，已经自然地把女性问题放置其中。科学的历史文化观告诉我们，无论正写的大历史，还是作为人类精神史的文学史，如果缺少对女性问题的关注和叙述，那必将是不完整的、不真实的历史。历史的、文化的、审美的视野不可能置女性（性别）问题于不顾。相反，只要我们正视历史，就会发现正是一系列女性艺术形象构成了一部世界文学史，而创造名垂史册的女性形象的男性作家也自然因此成为彪炳史册的经典作家。 相似文献

AbstractApplying the critical lenses of feminism, autographical theory and literary analysis, this essay performs a triple reading of Vera Brittain’s multi-genre writings about gender, war,and university education. Focusing specifically on The Dark Tide (1923), Testament of Youth (1933) and The Women of Oxford (1960), the essay argues that Brittain (de)constructs competing views of academic work and war work in order to reveal and critique competing definitions of women’s duty in wartime. Over the course of her life and writings, Brittain’s attitudes toward academe changed from euphoric feminist possibility to anti-spinsterish paranoia. Ultimately, Brittain was unable to reconcile these conflicting perspectives and instead chose a new, modern path in pacifism. Looking at a diverse body of her work reveals how much gender, education and the war impacted on Brittain’s perceptions of her self, her work and her writing. 相似文献

Many studies have examined whether children’s gender influences their educational attainment. However, there are limited studies on both the impact of parents’ education on children’s education and the educational gender gap in rural China. This paper investigates the impact of parents’ education on their children’s education from a gender perspective in rural China using comprehensive rural household data. We find that the educational gender gap in rural China has been decreasing over the last several decades. Moreover, the educational gender gap decreases as parents’ education increases. Parents’ initial educational attainment plays an important role in narrowing the educational gender gap. 相似文献
