Recent research has suggested that people with learning disabilities can manage their identities and define the circumstances under which they will present a self-image that is the same or different to other people with learning disability. This paper reports a survey of personal Home Pages written by people with Down Syndrome and investigates the extent to which they use the pages to accept or deny membership of the Down Syndrome group. Opportunistic sampling of the pages listed by five Web Crawlers revealed twenty personal Home Pages of adults with Down Syndrome. Thematic analysis of the content, form and language of the pages revealed similarities and differences in the way the page owners expressed and perceived their self-identity. The results suggest that the personal Home Page has the potential to allow adults with Down Syndrome to express multiple identities: identities that are the same and different to other people with Down Syndrome.  相似文献

Facebook is the most popular social media site visited by university students on a daily basis. Consequently, Facebook is the logical place to start with for integrating social media technologies into education. This study explores how a faculty‐administered Facebook Page can be used to supplement anatomy education beyond the traditional classroom. Observations were made on students' perceptions and effectiveness of using the Page, potential benefits and challenges of such use, and which Insights metrics best reflect user's engagement. The Human Anatomy Education Page was launched on Facebook and incorporated into anatomy resources for 157 medical students during two academic years. Students' use of Facebook and their perceptions of the Page were surveyed. Facebook's “Insights” tool was also used to evaluate Page performance during a period of 600 days. The majority of in‐class students had a Facebook account which they adopted in education. Most students perceived Human Anatomy Education Page as effective in contributing to learning and favored “self‐assessment” posts. The majority of students agreed that Facebook could be a suitable learning environment. The “Insights” tool revealed globally distributed fans with considerable Page interactions. The use of a faculty‐administered Facebook Page provided a venue to enhance classroom teaching without intruding into students' social life. A wider educational use of Facebook should be adopted not only because students are embracing its use, but for its inherent potentials in boosting learning. 目的:探讨体外冲击波碎石(ESWL)治疗与Page肾之间的关系。方法:对接受ESWL治疗后发生Page肾的10例患者的治疗经过进行回顾性分析,并结合文献复习。结果:10例患者都是在上世纪的80年代中后期接受了ESWL治疗,与当时ESWL治疗的适应症掌握不当及震波电压过高有一定关系。结论:ESWL治疗泌尿系结石的晚期后遗症值得关注,Page肾是其中最常见的后遗症之一,随着ESWL治疗的广泛开展,由此引起的Page肾发病率将会增高。  相似文献

Overseas comparisons have been increasingly influential in UK policy making for education and training, but they have limitations as a source of policy lessons. ‘Home international’ comparisons of the four home countries of the UK have been advocated as a more fruitful source of practical policy lessons. This paper examines the extent to which policy‐making processes in the four UK territories facilitate policy learning from such comparisons, drawing on interviews with senior policy makers. The policy makers agreed that home international comparisons were potentially valuable, but their actual use in policy making was occasional and unsystematic. The paper discusses the features of the policy‐making process which account for this conclusion.  相似文献
