When we comment on a translation work, we will usually com- pare the translated version with the original one. The procession to formulate the principles or criteria of translation always depends on the people's realization and comprehension of the relation between the original work and its translation. In both Chinese and western translation history, many scholars held lots of different point of views on the relationship between the original work and its translat- ed version. In this article, the author would like to compare these concepts from the hermeneutie view.  相似文献

Metaphor is a common linguistic phenomenon and always realizes its value within a certain context.Metaphor uses words to indicate something different from their literal meaning-one thing is described in terms of another so as to suggest a likeness or analogy between them.A metaphor can easily be seen as a bridge which links and comprises the known and the unknown, the familiar and the unfamiliar. Some people hold that metaphor tends to be seen as a way of coloring the ordinary plain language.Meanwhile some people think that metaphor is regarded as a way of experiencing the world. An analysis on English and Chinese metaphor translation will help to strengthen our understanding of different languages as well as different cultures. This paper focuses on the structure and features of metaphor, correspondences and several techniques in metaphor translation.  相似文献

A certain kind of culture always leaves its special stamp on its language which de- cides the relationship of culture and translation. Without mastering the foreign coun- tries' cultures, non-native learners may find it hard to understand. As we all know, humans use languages to communicate with each other, however, different kinds of languages may cause us many problems. Different cultures may conflict with each other, so a literal translation is not always the closest to the original meaning. Culture differences add difficulties to translation. That's why translation plays an important role in the different languages' communication. It is not because transla- tion is the transformation of language but also because it interprets culture. In the development of intercultural communication, translation has its undeniable mission. However, there appears a phenomenon in the highly advanced society that people are using more and more methods instead of translating to help communication. Naturally, people doubt whether the existence of translation is necessary; that is the key points of this thesis. After showing the development of translation and culture, and the relationship among culture, language and translation, the author draws a conclusion that translation would disappear in the cultural fusion.  相似文献

It is originally written in Chinese and gain recognition among foreign readers after being translated into English. The fact that the translation put Chinese science-fiction on the international map again after the Hugo-award winning science-fiction The Three Body Problem written by Liu Cixin is an important event in Chinese science-fiction translation history. The contribution of Ken Liu's English version should not be neglected. This paper looks at the successful translation and its communication from the perspective of Multiple Causality of Translation proposed by Anthony Pym to probe into the kind of causation operative in the translation of Folding Beijing, including the material or initial cause, the final cause, the formal cause, and the efficient cause. Ken Liu's English version has made such a great success that a study of its formation and development may provide insights for home translators longing to help Chinese science-fiction reach more readers.  相似文献

Nowadays, the fairy tales have been on hot discussion. Some say that the very original Grimm’s fairy tales is capricious that we may be more cautious whether it’s suitable for children. With the rethinking of fairy tales, many other scholars argue that the fairy tales can be valuable with its hidden German customs in the original version and the current versions are acceptable to children. The hot discussion raises our thinking. This new discussing wave may indicate something at a degree that the Grimm’s Fairy Tales is worthy going deeper to study. We think that the Grimm’s ferry tales is valuable for its pure essence and the German culture it hides that even adults should read it. Children can read the current version of Grimm’s Fairy Tales with their innocence, getting the basic judging system of good and bad. The core question is that Adults also should pick it up. That’s because usually people will find that all the experiences and reasons can be dated back to the simple truths in fairy tales. Meantime, the Grimm’s Fairy Tales reflects lots of unthinkable customs and culture. The only thing we need to do is try to find new aspects and directions to explore the classic. With the spiritual and academic help, shouldn’t the Grimm’s fairy tales be necessary for both children and adults to read?  相似文献

Literary translation is the re-creation of the language art.To translate an English novel into Chinese one, translators need the skill of literature re-creation.Taking Zhang Guruo’s translated version Tess of the D’urbervilles as an example,we perceive that translators have subjectivity and they should break the boundary between writing and translating. When a translator translates a piece of works,he must get rid of the constraint of the surface structures of the original works, and reproduces the flavor of the original novel. But the translators should try to show the original scenes in the original English novel to target readers.  相似文献

Taking Jakobson’s terminology and classification of translation as its starting point, this paper probes into many classic literary works’interrelationship with their imagery adaptations, discusses a reconciliation of different genres without sacrificing the loss of their respective strength. This paper also draws support from other scholars’discussion of originality and intertextuality to land on a conclusion:it is fully possible to reconcile different artistic genres, and this reconciliation will,as Benjamin put it,lead to the"afterlife"of a literary work.  相似文献

The translation of an instrument from one language to another is a challenging yet useful procedure, especially for constructs not widely studied in the target language. Culture shock is one such construct. The Culture Shock Questionnaire (CSQ) developed in England was translated to Turkish. Translation/back translation with 12 translators, the committee approach, and empirical testing in the university student population were the techniques employed. The results support CSQ as a potential instrument in the Turkish language as well as suggest that challenges in the translation of a research instrument, like challenges in the translation of other texts, involve serious dilemmas about the extent of loyalty to the original instrument. The current study recommends the use of multiple techniques in translation and reports on committee decisions in detail.  相似文献

Culture, which is one of characteristics of a nation, plays an important role in translation. There is a relationship be tween culture and translation and the ways for cultural transmitting from one language to another language. So,the translator has to capture and project the special cultural quality properly in the target language.Cultural transfer is all about a multi-pronged ap proach, focusing on the author’s relationship with his subject and that with the reader, which should be expressed in a good work.  相似文献

To those whose interest is in translation, an important topic for study is the choice of words. As lexicon is the mostactive and the liveliest component of a language, in the course of translation, due attention must be given to the analysis andcomparison of words and phrases before a suitable word or phrase is chosen to convey the meaning in the original version.Meanwhile, English words and phrases are rich and the same words or phrases may be different in meaning in a certain context, therefore, the diction in translation from English to Chinese is undoubtedly a matter of importance.  相似文献

To some extent, trademarks reflect products’practical value and excellent quality, then, a good product should have a good trademark; now, more and more products are being sold abroad. However, whether they will gain better benefits from the different countries depends not only on their, but also they should have remarkable names that are the trademarks of the products. However, trademark translation is not only a simple process of language transformation, but it is also a kind of intercultural communicative activities. It is affected by many aspects, such as language, culture, religion consuetudinary, psychological factors, aesthetic characteristics, etc. From the perspective of language and culture, it makes thorough analysis to the English translation of Chinese trademarks; so that it makes the readers peculiarly the person who is interested in translating trademarks have a whole understanding for achieving preferable market effect.  相似文献

As is known to all,Tang Poem(TP) reflects the humanities, the place and the people, the political and cultural life of the Tang dynasty.TP must be translated cautiously and detail.Poetry translation may be considered a rivalry between two languages(or even between two cultures) which vies to express the original idea best. That is to say,it is most important to grasp the cultural background in that period before one can study the translation of TP from a cultural perspective.Culture will not fade as time goes by and will not vanish as the world changes. How do TP be translated into English by application of linguistic context analysis? Firstly, the translator should have a thorough understanding of the content and background, and accordingly use various techniques of translation,e.g.Literal translation, free translation, transliteration, etc;furthermore, the style of the original must be given serious consideration.Linguistic context analysis includes phonetic context analysis, syntax context analysis and syntactic context analysis. As for the syntax,as far as syntax is concerned, there are many differences between Chinese and English.Mr.Wang Li points out:"western language is rules-oriented,but Chinese is man-oriented"(Shen Xiaolong.1990:141).As for the syntax,he says:"structure of TP is close-knit and flaws less, which is inflexible, but western grammar isn’t." this theses attempts to analysis how does an English version of a TP embody the style of the original poetic work by using proper syntactical form.  相似文献

Theatre translation is one of the most neglected areas in the field of translation.Theatre is a special member of the literature family in that it doubles as a branch of the performing art.It follows that the aesthetic constitutions of a dramatic creation is a complex problem. It is the translator’s duty to grasp the artistic features of the literary creation and reproduce them in the version since the most important thing in a piece of literature is its artistic features.  相似文献

Translation means the conversion of an expression into another language. To say plainly,It is an art to reproduce the exact idea of the author by means of a language different from the original. So the original thought of the expression must be kept as exactly as possible. The duty of the translator is simply to change the vocabulary not the thought. Literal translation and free translation are two essential ways in translation. Literal translation refers to an adequate representation of the original in sequence of vocabulary, in grammatical structure and rhetorical device. Free translation is also called liberal translation, which does not adhere strictly to the form or word order of the original. Which one is preferable? We can hardly say. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.Argument between them has been more than 80 years. What on earth is the argument? What do they focus on? The argument brings great effect to us, so I want to find some answers to it.  相似文献
