Changes in LCME accreditation for medical colleges fostered the development of Health Information Resources, a required, for-credit course created by the Saint Louis University Health Sciences Center Library Reference Department for the first-year medical school curriculum. Six content areas were developed for inclusion in the syllabus: "Electronic Resources Survival Kit"; "Introduction to Problem Based Resources"; "Introduction to Literature Searching"; "MEDLINE Searching Hands-On/Publishing Pearls & Pitfalls"; "The World Wide Web and Patient Information"; and "Introduction to Electronic Mail." A combination of lectures, hands-on instruction, and active learning techniques were employed in the teaching of this class. The databank on ecology and environmental protection reported in this paper is a part of the Integral Data Bank, which, in turn, is a part of an internet information resource of the Branch of Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, and Mining Sciences, Russian Academy of Sciences. An information medium for the Earth sciences is created in the Russian Academy of Sciences within the subprogram “Electronic Earth: Scientific Information Resources and Information Communication Technologies” of the Program no. 15 “Development of Fundamentals for Creation of Distributed Scientific Information and Computation Medium Based on GRID Technology”. In the framework of this project, the Rubrication of the All-Russian Institute of Scientific and Technical Information (VINITI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences is used to describe the structure of data put into the databanks of the Electronic Earth portal system. In this paper we briefly present the essentials of the content of metadata base of the first version of the databank on ecology, environmental protection, and geology of mineral deposits. 相似文献

This paper proposes that the health sector has much to learn from higher education as regards information provision in the electronic age. Information Technology for Library and Information Services is less developed in the NHS than in higher education. Staff training and development is identified as a key issue in supporting the transition to electronic delivery of Library and Information Services. The Electronic Libraries Programme (eLib), developing electronic services in higher education, is outlined, with emphasis on the IMPEL2 Project and its methodology. Findings from the Staff Training and Development strand of IMPEL2 are presented. This study identified that attention should be most keenly focused on two areas, IT skills and skills to support changing roles. A number of success factors in training and development are highlighted. The paper concludes that release of resources from eLib to support staff development must be paralleled in the health sector if effective electronic services are to be developed. 相似文献
