A course in consultation is increasingly becoming part of the required graduate curriculum of counseling psychologists/counselors who are training for employment in mental health and educational settings. It seems that most textbooks on consultation are devoted to theory and practice, and most journal articles on the topic focus on research outcomes. There is also a paucity of literature regarding practices in methods of teaching consultants for mental health and educational settings. This article outlines a practical model for teaching consultation skills that includes didactic presentations, demonstrations, and simulation experiences. 相似文献

To help meet the need to educate school counselors in the broader aspects of their work, the application of simulation techniques is suggested. A rationale is provided with discussion centering on the following points: (a) simulation offers an opportunity to provide specific training emphases, and (b) simulation offers a way of providing a wide range of counseling and guidance experiences not easily obtainable under regular practicum conditions. Specific examples of simulation are described, including a case study, a PTA speech, a teachers' meeting, a counselor's day, and a school board presentation. Benefits for counselor education programs which can be realized from simulation experiences also are discussed. Rather than choosing actors to play roles it is suggested that practicing counselors, state department personnel, doctoral students, and counselor education faculty should participate in simulation activities. As role players, they will gain an appreciation of current trends in the education of counselors. 相似文献

This article provides a didactic example and application of new developments in structural equation modeling (SEM) that allow for the modeling of multilevel data. Such data often arise naturally from organizational structures in which within‐group units (employees, students, etc.) are observed in larger between‐group units (firms, schools, etc.) The article begins with an overview of the basic ideas of SEM and multilevel linear regression. The synthesis of both methods developed by Muthéin (1994) is then presented in the simple case of a multilevel path analysis model, in which the variations in within‐group level intercepts are modeled as a function of between‐group variables following their own path model. An application motivated by a real problem in the field of education that focuses on validating indicators of the quality of science education in the United States follows. The results show that it is possible to statistically capture the salient complexities of organizations through the application of multilevel SEM. The article concludes with a discussion of the utility of multilevel SEM for organizational studies. 相似文献

As the demand for counseling within a religious setting increases, clergymen are expressing a need for more counselor education. If pastoral counseling is considered distinctly different from other counseling, then pastoral counseling education is the province of the seminaries. If the pastoral counselor is not considered basically different from other counselors, a secular counselor education program can serve the needs of ministers as well as other counselors by having a central core of required professional courses and then optional branches for specialization in counseling. Finding appropriate instructors for the pastoral counseling courses could be a problem. Candidates for pastoral counseling should be as carefully screened and tested as other graduate students in counseling. The counseling program should offer ministers the opportunity to learn about group work and, ideally, the opportunity for supervised practicum work in several different settings. There should be some provision for individual and group therapy for the pastoral counselors themselves as a means of enhancing their own effectiveness. When a secular institution feels that it cannot adapt its regular program to fit the needs of pastoral counselors, it can be of service by arranging special workshops and conferences for the clergymen of the area, and counselor educators can be available as consultants to seminaries and churches that request assistance. 相似文献

通过在大学生心理健康课堂中设置了常规讲授、案例讨论、专题讨论、团体辅导和综合法五种教学方法,以416名学生为对象,运用方差分析比较了五种教学方法的教学效果。结果显示：学生更喜欢团体辅导的教学方式,而且这种方式在调动学生参与性和课堂氛围上优势明显;综合法的教学方式在调动学生思考、让学生产生学习内容重要性感知上优势最明显;专题讨论的教学方式在授课主题明确性、师生互动效果上更具优势。 相似文献

Effects of involving conduct problem adolescents in goal setting were assessed. Two levels of goal setting were compared: Level 1—pupils were involved with a school counselor in goal setting as a basis for individual behavioral counseling intervention; Level 2—pupils were informed by a counselor that goals were being set, but were not involved in the goal-setting process. Four public school counselors and 16 adolescents were randomly assigned to one of the two conditions, with individual behavioral counseling being provided during a 10-week period. Results indicated greater degree of goal attainment and satisfaction with counseling for pupils who participated in goal setting. 相似文献

Abstract The 1970s witnessed a tremendous national concern about the environment. As might be expected, this concern was translated to schools in the form of environmental education and the need to have teachers qualified to teach this topic. This paper reviews the published studies from the 1970s (indexed in ERIC Document Retrieval Service) dealing with teacher inservice in environmental education. A wide variety of formats and audiences were addressed by these inservice opportunities. Unfortunately, few studies made any attempt to test the effectiveness of their programs. The time has come for closer coordination between secular postgraduate education in counseling and counselor training of clergymen under religious auspices. Secular and religious educational objectives for competent counselors are similar—both desire to train individuals who can meet the needs of other people. Any uniqueness that may belong to the clergyman as a counselor lies within the context of competent counseling, not outside of it. If people's needs for counseling are to be more fully met there must be a new effort toward coordination. If such coordination can be effected, both education and religion will be enriched. In the cross-cultural counseling literature many writers have suggested that counselors and counselor trainees should acquire knowledge about ethnic minority populations. More concrete suggestions are needed, however, regarding specific structures through which such knowledge might be gained. In this article the authors describe a multifaceted approach to acquisition of cross-cultural knowledge that is a culmination of experiences and activities the writers have used in a course titled Counseling Ethnic Minorities. This approach is based on the premise that knowledge and cultural sensitivity can be achieved through a combination of cognitive, affective, and behavioral procedures. The course includes assessment of cultural knowledge, reading ethnic literature, multicultural action planning, and small-group presentations. Students taking this course have judged the multifaceted approach to be a valuable experience for acquiring cross-cultural knowledge and for developing cross-cultural sensitivity. The purpose of this article is to bring to the fore a topic that has received little mention in the college student literature: conducting psychotherapy with survivors of war and political trauma who seek treatment at college and university counseling centers. Following a discussion of political trauma in relation to typical developmental challenges of the college years, several case examples illustrate clinical issues for these students. In addition, personal and professional issues faced by the counselors who work with this population will be addressed. This paper examines the topic of multicultural counseling in Turkey, where school-based multicultural counseling services remain comparatively limited in scope and application. Participants consisted of twenty-three counselors working in secondary or high schools and fourteen counselor educators from several state universities. While the participants expressed mostly positive attitudes towards multicultural counseling, school counselors tended to regard it only as a client-focused, acculturation process. Not unexpectedly, counselor educators approached the process mainly in terms of how to effectively apply it toward various minority groups in Turkey. 相似文献

Coached client methodology can be an important resource in the education of student counselors by simulating a counseling experience with a standard client stimulus before actual counseling is begun. The authors carried out the following procedures for establishing and maintaining standard client consistency: (a) development of a general concept of the content of the client's role; (b) incorporation of specific information about the coached client in a cumulative folder to be used by the counselor; (c) development of specific client statements as essential aspects of the client's role; (d) training the coached client to incorporate all essential statements into his role; (e) assessment of client consistency across interviews with different counselors. In recent years, the notion of communication contract has stimulated a lot of research in social developmental psychology as well as in education. This article presents two series of investigations using different methods for the study of the didactic and experimental contracts. The discussion focuses on some theoretical issues raised by these studies: the risk of sociological vs psychological reductionism, the risk of neglecting the specificity of cognitive activity and the risk of reifying the notion of context. Possible developments for future research will be suggested. The problem of the articulation between social, institutional and interactional contexts in the study of cognitive activity is a central argument. 相似文献
