The purpose of the research is to find out which job skills Greek graduate students of high school and their parents consider as important qualifications for the youngsters' entry into the active working life with regard to their gender. The sample, consisting of 215 graduate students of high school and their parents (210), evaluated the importance they think the examined job skills have for the students' future entry into the labor market and also the extend to which the youngsters possess these skills. Results have shown that there were significant differences between students' and their parents' opinions with regard to gender concerning job skills that are considered as important for finding a job. This was also confirmed by the factor analysis applied. Significant gender differences were also found concerning the degree to which teenagers possess the examined skills. In concluding, male young students and their fathers believe that skills related to self-management, self-discipline and the use of technological means are more important for finding a job, whilst female young students and their mothers outline a more positive and social profile, confirming typical and stereotypical attitudes and vocational choices.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper was to study the learning of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) by disadvantaged high school students in a Thai welfare school. Three DNA units of the genetics instructional units (GIUs) based on a social constructivist approach were implemented to 14 disadvantaged school students at Grade 12 in Bangkok. The data were collected from classroom observation, interviews, students' works, basic genetics concepts survey and advanced genetics concepts survey. It was found that before the implementation of the GIUs, the majority of students had "no conceptions" about gene, chromosome and DNA including their relationships. During the implementation of the GIUs, the teacher induced students into the lessons, checked students' prior knowledge, used practical-inexpensive-durable instructional materials, promoted social interactions through a variety of teaching strategies, periodically used dynamic assessments and assigned students into groups where they were able to communicate with others. After the implementation, the majority of students showed having "scientific conceptions" in the chemical components of DNA and "partial understanding" of the DNA structure and relationships among cell-nucleus-chromosome-DNA-gene concepts.  相似文献

Individualized schoolwork and self-regulated learning has expanded in Sweden during the last decades. Such teaching methods affect the roles of teachers and students, and the demand for student responsibility increases. Upper secondary school in Sweden includes vocational and study preparation programmes, which both give general access to higher education. Since 2000 all students entering upper secondary school have to take a course called Project Work (100 credits). The preceding course Special Work (20 credits) was only part of the study preparation programmes. This expansion from 20 to 100 credits and from a few to all study programmes was a considerable change. The study is built on data from interviews with upper secondary school students about their approaches to Project Work, as an example of self-regulated learning practices. Qualitative analyse and classification is based on earlier developed categories, and to some extent tendencies in students' development over time are explored. The results throw light on the relationship between different types of projects, grades and students' approaches to Project Work. Special interest is given to approaches considered as problematic from an educational point of view. Socio-cultural aspects show some impact, although the students' difficulties turn out to be more of an educational challenge.  相似文献

The Spanish educational system will require certain changes in order to achieve the Bologna objectives for the European Higher Education Area, including a more professional profile, with new activities and roles for both students and teachers, who must assume new skills that will affect concepts and attitudes related to the teaching and learning processes within the framework of training projects. However, students must also take a leading role in the educational process by adopting independent, meaningful and cooperative learning methods. This process will imply a notable change of mindset for the typical Spanish students and will involve a high degree of collaboration between students and teachers. Teachers will have to choose suitable methodologies for achieving those objectives, within the academic framework and considering the characteristics of professional training in skills. In addition, they must create the appropriate structural and organizational conditions to carry out these activities (class size, space, educational organization, etc.). This paper describes the authors' experience in designing learning methodologies for the teaching of accountancy in the business administration degree course at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. The paper is divided into three parts. The first part describes the methodology designed for teaching accounting, based on PBL (problem-based learning), compiled with Internet-based technologies. We analyze its use and evolution in two accounting subjects in the first and the fourth years of the degree. The second part presents the results for each subject in these years. The authors also point out the differences between students who chose the learning methodology described and those who used the traditional approach. The final part of the paper presents the conclusions obtained from the statistical treatment of the results and the analysis of different options for correlating the information obtained. These results show that there is a direct correlation between the use of an active learning model--through the teaching methodology--and obtaining satisfactory exam results in the subject. Finally, the authors analyze these results and consider how they should be used for evaluating the suitability of the methodology and to determine whether it is necessary to redesign the methodology to fit in with the characteristics, conditions and limitations of the teaching and learning processes.  相似文献

This article takes a discursive psychology approach to the analysis of Non-English major students’ English learning experience narrative. The students took part in my survey are those just say goodbye to the high school and are freshmen in college now. The English learning experience narrative is in a form of diary. Through the students themselves’ own point of views in recounting their English learning experiences, I want to find the reality hidden behind their failures in learning English. And hope this can give the most teachers who work for public English education in colleges or even universities some inspiration about teaching.  相似文献

Today we have the challenge and the opportunity to provide all students with the mathematical knowledge, skills, and confidence they will need in a highly technical world. There is considerable nationwide interest in improving students' understanding of mathematics, combined with an emerging consensus about the essential elements of mathematics instruction; in addition, research has provided valuable insights into how children learn. Together these factors are opening the way to substantial and enduring progress in school mathematics.  相似文献

This article presents the methodology used by the Finnish Education Evaluation Council in the national evaluation of social and communication skills in vocational education and training. The evaluation concentrates on key competences such as learning-to-learn skills, communication skills, social skills and entrepreneurship (Implementation of Education and Stringfellow, 2005; Recommendation of the European Training 2010, 2004; Winterton, Delemare-Le Deist & Parliament and of the Council of December 18, 2006 on key competencies for lifelong leaming, 2006). The evaluation focuses particularly on skills required in the labour market. These competences are included in all vocational study programmes as a part of accompanying with other key competences. The authors' approach follows the principles of developmental and participative evaluation, applying the Common Quality Assurance Framework (CQAF) model, which has been accepted by the European Commission for the quality management and quality assurance framework for vocational education and training in Europe. Additional methods such as interview and statistical data gathering were used to acquire comprehensive data and ensure extensive participation of each partner involved has key competences. The evaluation material was collected from vocational education and training providers by sector (n=8) and by qualification (n=53). Every sector and type of examination was included in the evaluation. The evaluation was based on a sample (n=130). The evaluation data were collected from multiple sources by using multiple methods. The material included written self-evaluation reports by vocational education and training providers (n=130 which equals 95% of VET providers), quantitative information, interviews organized by the National Board of Education and an evaluation seminar for providers as focus groups. Educational administrators, teachers, students, employers and workplace instructors participated in the self-evaluation of the vocational education and training establishments (multi-professional evaluation).  相似文献

The Disabilities Education Act was introduced in June, 1997 in the Turkish Education System. The Act states that schools have a duty to educate children with disabilities in general education classrooms. All children with disabilities should be educated with non-disabled children at their own age and have access to the general education curriculum. The philosophy of inclusive education aims at helping all children learn in regular classrooms. Children learn at their own pace and style within a nurturing learning environment because schools are important places for children to develop friendships and learn social skills. Children with and without disabilities learn together and from each other in inclusive classes. On the other hand, when children attend classes that reflect the similarities and differences of people in the real world, they learn to appreciate diversity. The aim of this study is to examine the perceptions of teachers about implementation of inclusive education in elementary schools. In order to collect data for this study, a questionnaire which consisted of eight open-ended questions was developed and administered to 66 elementary school teachers. The teachers worked at primary schools and taught 1-5 grades. They were asked to write their opinions and experiences about the implementation of inclusive education in the elementary schools. Primary school teachers generally have a positive attitude about inclusive education and its philosophical and psychological foundation. However, they express that they encounter some difficulties in implementing inclusive classrooms. A crowded classroom is a main obstacle to obtain desired objectives in educational activities. The levels of students' disability are related to effectiveness of classroom management. The effectiveness of inclusive education depends on not only the teachers' quality but also the school administrators'. Some superintendents assess the effectiveness of teachers in inclusive and regular classrooms in the same way.  相似文献

Parents' and teachers' perceptions of students' general scholastic abilities, such as being able to complete their school work, retain what they learn, and achieve sufficiently compared to other students at their ages, were analyzed for how well they predict parents' forms of involvement in their children's education and teachers' forms of communication to parents. Data were collected from parents and teachers in two Title I, public middle schools in a large, urban city in the southwest. Parent involvement and teacher communication practices were measured using the "school and family partnerships survey". Parents' and teachers' perceptions of students' general scholastic abilities were measured using a teacher-rating version of the "perceived competence scale for children". Linear regression analyses revealed that parents' perceptions did not predict their involvement, nor did teachers' perceptions predict their amount of communication as reported by parents. Although parents' and teachers' perceptions did not predict involvement in this study, perceptions of children's general academic abilities should be further explored in relation to family-school partnerships. The results suggest that involvement in middle school occurs in ways distinctive from elementary school. Therefore, improved instruments are needed to more accurately measure parent involvement and teacher communication at grade levels beyond elementary school.  相似文献

This paper aims at outlining the dual-focused approach used to train architecture students to work independently on re-development and re-usage concepts in an Erasmus IP (intensive programme) workshop, where English was used as the working language. The creative tasks were combined with communication skills (social and technical English, negotiation skills), which were to enable the students to present their outcome publicly in the final presentation. The underlying concept is that students work in small international groups and develop their own method to address the given problem in the form of a real project. Through the project-based approach, students search for information that accompanies their project ideas, which helps them find a viable solution. The creative work process is completed by a thorough evaluation and intensive reflection phase in order to strengthen the students' learning experience. Additionally, the interdisciplinary approach, as well as the multinational aspect that originate from different cultural and educational backgrounds of the students, shall contribute to the interactive work process. This process of interaction is based on the idea of experiential learning that sees knowledge as the transformation of experience.  相似文献

Laboratory work educates students about the "processes of science". But it is suggested that students' learning level is low because of limited application of science processes in their laboratory work. Extraction experiment was chosen as the topic since it allows students to apply many of their basic chemistry knowledge, and it can be readily to gain understanding of scientific proceses required for an investigation. This study has been carried out with 40 students who are in the first year of Science Teaching Division at Trakya University, Faculty of Education. These students were divided into two groups of the experimental group and the control group, each group containing 20 students. The students of the experimental group were given knowledge about basic scientific process skills, and a procedure in detail to follow was given. But the students of the control group was given a standard procedure. The students of both groups were asked about what and why they did while they were performing the laboratory investigation. We observed that the experimental group students used the basic process skills, understood the extraction experiment, and realized what and why they did from this activity better than the control group students. The control group students did not know why they did laboratory work and they tended to focus on completing the task rather than learning from it. We considered that the experience would be helpful for students to improve scientific process skills if the students successfully acquired procedural understanding. Students" scientific processskills will develop as long as they use the skills.  相似文献

U.S.AStudents' Poor Performance in Math: American high school students have a poorer mastery of basic math concepts than their counterparts in most other leading industrialized nations, according to a major international survey. The study ranked the United States 24th out of 29 advanced countries. Students from Finland and South Korea scored best in the survey, which measured the ability of 15-year-olds to solve real-life math problems. The results suggest that, at the secondary-school level, the learning gap between the United States and its competitors in Europe and Asia is widening. U.S. students continue to lag behind students elsewhere in basic math skills, despite recent gains in standardized tests at the national level.  相似文献

Recent years, many high schools enlarged their dimensions of enrollment along with the colleges’enlarged enrollment. As a result, the vocational schools’enrollees are mostly the graduated junior high school students who are not qualified to enroll in the senior high schools. The researcher found many students didn’t have interests in English reading. They often chat, read novels,or even sleep. That badly interrupted the accomplishment of regular teaching process. Most of the colleagues of the researcher contributed that to the lowered quality of students. But there might be many further reasons decreased the students’reading interests, such as,the teachers’teaching methods, the applicability of the textbooks, the teaching environment, and etc. Many researches had been conducted on the issue of the English reading. But there are a few practical researches on how to enhance students’interests in English reading. The researcher hypothesized that the communicative teaching activities(shortened as CTA hereinafter)can enhance students’reading interests.A three-week project was conducted among 35students.CTA was arranged in each of the three stages of English reading teaching, namely the pre-reading stage, the while-reading stage and the post reading stage. The researcher analyzed the weekly diary that described the performance changes of students, and also the exercise marks they got in the classes in three weeks. The results turned out students’interests in English reading had been highly improved after the application of CTA.The significance of this project is that the application of communicative teaching activities can enhance students’reading interests. And those teachers who are meeting the same problem in their teachings can benefit from this project.  相似文献

Although most courses are offered in the traditional synchronous way where teaching and learning mainly take place in the classroom, the Internet has proven to be an effective tool in learning. The demand of online courses is constantly growing, however, there is a paucity of research of online delivery success factors, especially of accounting courses. The aim of this paper was to investigate'the factors that contribute to student satisfaction from online teaching and learning of an accounting course. This study was conducted at a university in the United States (U.S.) amongst 80 students enrolled in an online accounting course over a period of two semesters. The quantitative data are based on the students' course evaluation forms of the instructor's teaching and overall satisfaction with the course. The findings suggest that the students found the asynchronous online teaching and learning interesting and challenging. The factors that mainly contribute to student satisfaction include the instructor's preparation for the course and her availability to students, the clear grading criteria, the assignment which they found useful, and the other resources that were available online. They value the least the development of writing skills. Additionally, this study proposes that there is a positive significant correlation between the instructor's overall performance and the overall student satisfaction from the course. The instructor's performance, availability, and easy to use technology enhance the learning and teaching from online pedagogies.  相似文献

Reading comprehension is important for both teacher and students in high school. And there is a phenomenon in stu dents when they do the reading comprehension. If word recognition is difficult, students use too much of their time to read and understand the individual words, which interferes with their ability to comprehend what is read and waste too much of their time in the examination. This makes the comprehension difficult for high school students. The paper focuses on the methods for teach ers to eliminate lexical obstacles to reading comprehension in high school.  相似文献
