This article aims at presenting the University of Oslo as a case of a Scandinavian university experiencing policy and structural changes as a consequence of changes in government's thinking on university finance. In this situation the active marketing of research based services might be a new source of revenue, and hence the following question comes up: How is the service function of the University perceived by the University and its clients in the Oslo region? The University of Oslo case is explored by reviewing available policy documents, statistics, regulations, charters and legal acts issued by the university itself and the Ministry of Education. In addition, information obtained through interviews with key actors at the university and key clients of the Oslo region, is presented. The study concludes that the University of Oslo is taking careful steps in the service direction. 相似文献

We discuss findings and issues regarding community service by youth in the United States, for example: Is school-based required service as effective as voluntary service, and if increasing numbers of youth are doing service, why has political engagement not increased? We next present a theory proposing that certain kinds of service can contribute to the development of social identity. Such service would be challenging, bring youth into direct contact with the strange “other,” and engage youth with organizations which represent moral and political traditions. We conclude with speculations on ways community service might benefit identity development in German youth and help to resolve tensions in contemporary German society. 相似文献

The study concludes that the limited objectives of the scheme have been realised. Mobility and resource-limitedness pose challenging issues to service configuration for quality of service （QoS） management in ubiquitous computing environments. Previous configuration approaches, such as static resource reservation, dynamic resource allocation and single service composition are not valid in the environments. In this study, we present an adaptive service configuration approach. Firstly, we reduce the dynamic configuration process to a control model which aims to achieve the variation of critical QoS on minimal level with less resource cost. Secondly, to deal with different QoS variations, we design two configuration strategies--service chain reconfiguration and QoS parameter adjustment--and implement them based on fuzzy logic control theory. Finally, a configuration algorithm is developed to flexibly employ the two configuration strategies in tune with the error of critical QoS in configuration process. The results of simulation experiments suggest that our approach outperforms existing configuration approaches in both QoS improvement and resource utilization. 相似文献

Our aim in this paper is twofold. We wish to describe the work done with families referred for various problems, including child abuse, to one Area Social Services Team (Section 2). We then offer (Section 3) some comparisons to indicate the extent of the problem. The second task in subsequent sections is to use data from various sources on child abuse (Section 4), and our own information (Section 5) to suggest that Army life has inherent features exacerbating risk of child abuse. We make various conclusions, and proposals for improvement (Section 6).
