Subject matter knowledge for teaching and the case of functions   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Interest in teachers' subject matter knowledge has arisen in recent years. But most of the analysis has been general and not topic-specific. This paper shows how one may approach the question of teachers' knowledge about mathematical topics. It demonstrates the building of an analytic framework of subject matter knowledge for teaching a specific topic in mathematics and then uses the concept of function to provide an illustrative case of a paradigm for analyzing subject matter knowledge for teaching. The choice of the aspects, which form the main facets of the framework, was based on integrated knowledge from several bodies of work: the role and importance of the topic in the discipline of mathematics and in the mathematics curriculum; research and theoretical work on learning, knowledge and understanding of mathematical concepts in general and the specific topic in particular; and research and theoretical work on teachers' subject matter knowledge and its role in teaching. An application of the framework in the case of the concept of function is described and illustrated by anecdotes drawn from a study of prospective secondary teachers' knowledge and understanding of functions.Recipient of a Sir Charles Clore Post-Doctoral Fellowship.  相似文献

The education of engineering graduates at Aalborg University is an exceptional experiment in an international context. The curriculum is project-organized from the day the new students arrive until their graduation. The work is project-organized and carried out in small project groups. An assessment of the results of our study programmes in engineering was carried out after almost 20 years of experience. This discovered that the graduates and their employers considered the programmes to be very suitable in preparing graduate engineers for the engineering professions. The assessment also revealed that the knowledge and experience which the graduates had gained in project work were considered to be of greater value for their professional activity than were the knowledge and experience gained from lectures etc. This paper presents a brief introduction to the educational concept and to the main results of the assessment.  相似文献

相同的语词指号在不同语境中可以指谓不同的对象即表示不同的概念。许多所谓的"单独集合概念"、"普遍集合概念"和"普遍非集合概念"尤其是"普遍非集合概念",就集合体和非集合体而言,在具体语境中呈现与之相对的概念的质的规定性,这种复杂的逻辑现象相当普遍。因此,集合概念和非集合概念的归类首先应当考察一个语词指号是否因具体语境的不同而呈现概念表达上的集合体和非集合体的二重性。当语词指号与概念之间存在一致性,即一个语词指号只能表示集合体或非集合体中之一时,可采用静态归类法;当语词指号与概念之间不存在一致性,即一个语句指号既可表示集合体又可表示非集合体时,则应采用动态归类法。  相似文献

An inclusive paradigm that emphasizes the nature and inevitable cultural shaping of meaning-making through relationships is represented as the relational cultural paradigm for vocational psychology presented in this article. This paradigm represents a phenomenological worldview or meta-theory for understanding meaning and mattering in worklife. The concept of worklife represents the nexus of work (unbound by dichotomous distinctions such as labour market and personal work), relationships, and culture (including the cultural construction of gender). The paradox of engineering education is that it must prepare the student to undertake work in areas unknown at the time he is attending college. An attempt is made to formulate criteria for establishing engineering curricula which will meet this apparently self-contradictory requirement. Rather than basing education on apparatus and techniques possessing high rates of obsolescence, it is suggested that the following be emphasized: the disciplining of the mind; communication techniques, both linguistic and mathematical; the cultural heritage of mankind; the macroscopic properties of the three states of matter; invariant principles of laboratory apparatus; fundamental network theory; and the field concept and radiation.  相似文献

在休闲中共同提高精神修养,是人类全面发展的目标。与马克思主义休闲观相似,中国传统文化的休闲观强调劳事休闲(即和“事”融为一体,与人事活动不分割)。传统劳事休闲强调心灵“静、敬、净”的休闲方法,主张在动态的社会生活中要“敬”;对功名利禄一尘不染,即求“净”。而且,对物质生活和外在条件并不十分看重,讲求内在的快乐和精神层面的享受;追求神圣和永恒的体验,以“道”为目标。在现代工商社会中,心灵失落是一个普遍的问题,由此,引起了诸多的个人乃至社会问题。恢复和回归传统心灵修养的境界,可以找回现代人的精神家园。  相似文献

Participation of the ‘target group’ is a key concept in working on empowerment in health education. However, it raises many questions and is not without struggle. I will discuss the findings from a study into the state of the art of empowerment in health education, which includes a literature review and the analysis of eight Dutch health‐promotion projects. An important finding is that participation is not an unequivocal concept. Professionals working in health education strongly disagree on the value, goals and meaning of participation. Moreover, in working on empowerment, a tension exists—between the ideal of participatory, ‘bottom‐up’ approaches on the one hand; and the ‘top‐down’ structure of health education programmes, on the other. I will argue for a ‘realistic approach’ in which the practice of health promotion is taken as the starting point to work on empowerment. After all, imagining the flowers is easy, but working the rich and heavy clay is the challenge.  相似文献
