Two men were travelling in a very wild and lonely part of America. For days they had not even seen a house. Only a few cabins made of wood, or tents made of skins. Then one day they met an old Indian who earned his living by hunting animals. They found that he knew their language and they had a little talk with him. One of them asked him if he could tell them what the weather would be like within the next few days.  相似文献

Do It Yourself
Last Saturday evening I went home as usual. After I had supper with my family, we sat in the yard enjoying the cool summer wind. We talked about the things that happened during the whole week. Suddenly I remembered that my trousers had come apart at the seams. So I brought it out and said to my mother, "Mum, can you help me mend my broken trousers?" My mother looked at me for a while, then turned back  相似文献

Passage A When we can see well, we do not think about our eyes often. It is only when we cannot see perfectly that we come to see how important our eyes are. People who are near, sighted(近视的) can only see things that are very close to their eyes. Many people who do a lot of close work, such as writing and reading, become near, sighted. Then they have to wear glasses in order to see distant things clearly. People who are far, sighted(远视的) face just the opposite problem. They can see things…  相似文献

Nowadays, drug taking has been a serious social problem. According to the data gathered by the World Health Organization, there are about 300 million drug addicts in the world, and 66% of them are teenagers. Why do so many people take drugs? I think the main reason is that they know little about narcotics. And most of them are very curious about strange things, especially the youth. They try to taking drugs just for fun at the beginning, and then they will addict to heroin soon. In the end, they will  相似文献

Last time we talked about baby animals such as pups of dogs, kittens of cats, chicks of chickens, and ducklings of ducks. As I sat down to write this column, I saw some of my old squlrrelsI friends sneaking into my backyard and climbing onto the bird feeder2 to steal bird food again. They are cute but can also be a big headache, because they scare the birds a way and they eat a lot. They can finish within an hour the monthly supply that I put out for the birds. These squirrels must also be taking some of the food back to their babies, and I am wondering--what are baby squirrels called? Ah, they are called--are you ready-- pups or kittens, just like baby dogs and cats.  相似文献

The Giving Trees
I was a single parent of four small children. Money was always tight, but we had a roof over our heads, food on the table, clothes on our backs, and if not a lot, always enough. My kids told me that in those days they didn't know we were poor. They just thought Morn was cheap I've always been glad about that. it was Christmas time, and although tilere wasn't money for a lot of gifts, we planned to celebrate with church and family, parties and friends, drive downtown to see the Christmas lights, special dinners, and celebrate by decorating our home. But the big excitement for the kids was the fun of Christmas shopping at the mall. They talked and planned for weeks ahead of time, asking each other and their grandparents what they wanted for Christmas. I dreaded it. I had saved S120 for presents. The big day arrived and we started out early. I gave each of the four kids a twenty dollar bill and reminded them to look for gifts about four dollars each. Then everyone scattered. We had two hours to shop; then we would meet back at the "Santa's workshop" display.  相似文献

<正>At first, the people of the whole world had only one language and used the same words. As they wandered about in the East, they came to a plain in Babylonia and settled there. They said to one another,“Come on! Let's make bricks and bake them hard.” So they had bricks to build with and tar to hold them together. They said,“Now, let's build a city with a tower that reaches the sky, so that we can make a name for ourselves and not be scattered all over the earth.”  相似文献

My husband and I had been marriedabout two years—just long enough for me torealize that he was a normal man rather than a hero—when I read an article recommending that couples regu-larly discuss the habits they find annoying in each other.I talked tomy husband about the idea, and he agreed to give it a try.  相似文献
