An inclusive paradigm that emphasizes the nature and inevitable cultural shaping of meaning-making through relationships is represented as the relational cultural paradigm for vocational psychology presented in this article. This paradigm represents a phenomenological worldview or meta-theory for understanding meaning and mattering in worklife. The concept of worklife represents the nexus of work (unbound by dichotomous distinctions such as labour market and personal work), relationships, and culture (including the cultural construction of gender). Narratives are identified as a tool for understanding the meanings people construct. 相似文献

The authors, because of their different geographical and cultural backgrounds, address these points from their own perspectives. As a result of a relative lack of cross-cultural validity in most current (Western) psychological models, indigenous models
of psychology have recently become a popular approach for understanding behaviour in specific cultures. Such models would
be valuable to vocational psychology research with culturally diverse populations. Problems facing current psychological models
and methods of improving cultural validity are discussed. An integrative model of cross-cultural psychology is reviewed and

Other disciplines offer new perspectives, concepts, and models that would help vocational psychology reinvigorate itself. The paper identifies contributions (such as narrative) that post-modern sources and scientific disciplines could make, though with reservations about importing ideas from the physical sciences into the social sciences. There would also be challenges for vocational psychology, primarily to its core values as a science but those could change over time. As an example, the paper then discusses how some of the lessons of narratology could enrich post-modern approaches, while its structuralism could enable vocational psychology to take advantage of the potential contributions of narrative. 相似文献

The literature on interdisciplinarity identifies several forms of collaboration: multidisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and interdisciplinary (as bridge building or integration). To assist vocational psychology translate its interdisciplinary discourse into action, this paper uses that literature to identify the benefits, challenges and conditions for success. It indicates that the form of collaboration needed must be decided, and the cognitive, social, organizational and institutional aspects of the collaborating disciplines considered. Evolutionary developmental psychology, an emerging subdiscipline of evolutionary approaches to human behavior and cognition, focuses on the adaptive nature of psychological mechanisms built into the brains of juveniles, some of which may serve immediate demands at different stages of development, and some of which serve preparatory roles for maturity. The current article reviews some of the central ideas of evolutionary developmental psychology and investigates how human educability, which is qualitatively different from the learning capacity of other species, is governed by specific adaptations of Homo sapiens' childhood that serve to orient the young child to his or her cultural environment. Evolutionary developmental psychology, we argue, can be especially informative to educational policy makers who wish to take children's natural limitations, as well as their intellectual pliability, into account when planning curricula. 相似文献
