Purpose: This study elucidates on how faculty supervision support to students during farm placements and other facilitating conditions influence farmer learning in the student-centred university outreach.

Methodology/Design/Approach: Cross-sectional data were collected from a sample of 283 farmers who had previously hosted students of Gulu University in the student-to-farmer university outreach. Structural equation modelling was used to analyse how faculty supervision support to students in combination with other facilitating conditions affect the formation of intentions for learning and actual farmer learning behaviour.

Findings: Faculty supervision support in the student-to-farmer outreach was found to significantly influence formation of intentions for learning (β?=?0.380; t?=?5.263; P?β?=?0.182; t?=?2.081; P?Practical implications: Faculty supervision support to students is critical to fostering lasting learning relationships in university outreach. Thus, it needs to be a part of the transformation agenda of the higher education sector for improved community linkages and innovation.

Theoretical implications: Empirical data obtained from the context of student-centred university outreach is used to extend the model of facilitating conditions.

Originality/Value: The study addresses how faculty supervision support together with farmers’ perception of student attitudes and the value of the learning content influence farmers’ learning behaviour during university outreach.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper seeks to summarize efforts made by the Faculty of Education of the University of Macau to inculcate computer literacy in teachers in Macau in preparation for the information era. Based on one programme of study proposed by the National Research Center for Computers in Education in Primary and Secondary Schools, the paper summarizes the course objectives, as well as the concepts and skills required to ensure sustainable development of information technology in China. To educate teachers throughinformation technology, it is envisaged that two kinds of activities are required: (1) construction of web‐based learning environments, (2) multimedia courseware authoring.  相似文献

Abstract

This issue is the first of a special PRIMUS two-part issue collecting articles from experienced faculty mentors. We offer it as a valuable resource for faculty leading undergraduate research programs. It is inspired by the “Regional Faculty Workshop on REU Issues” in 2013 and the Joint Mathematics Meeting 2015 Mathematical Association of America’s “Themed Session on Perspectives and Experiences on Mentoring Undergraduate Students in Research.” This issue consists of seven papers focusing on the larger issues involved in creating, running, and sustaining an undergraduate research program in mathematics.  相似文献

Background: This study uses problem-based learning (PBL) to ensure that students comprehend the significance of green chemistry better by experiencing the stages of identifying the problem, developing hypotheses, and providing solutions within the problem-solving process.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to research the effect of PBL implemented in cation analysis experiments in an analytical chemistry laboratory course on students’ level of understanding of the subject of ‘Green Chemistry and Sustainability’.

The study group: The study group consists of second-grade students who participated in an Analytical Chemistry Laboratory within the General Chemistry III course in the Department of Science Education of the Faculty of Education of a state university in Turkey (N = 63).

Design and methods: Quasi-experimental design was used in this research. Students were randomly divided into two groups, an experimental group (N = 31) and a control group (N = 32). Laboratory experiments in which qualitative and quantitative cation group analyses were conducted were carried out in the experimental group with PBL that involved five different scenarios inspired by daily life. In the control group, experiments were performed as closed-ended experiments. The ‘Green Chemistry and Sustainability Test’ (GCST) and semi-structured interviews were used as data collection tools. The independent sample t-test was used in determining whether there was a significant difference between groups by GCST, reviewing pre-test–post-test scores for the control and experimental groups, and semi-structured interviews were analyzed by content analysis.

Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference in favor of the experimental group in GCST post-test scores (t = 10.554, p < 0.05). Considering students’ opinions, there were positive statements, such as that they had taken an active role and had their interest aroused interest since problems in the experiments were related to daily life.

Conclusion: PBL enhanced students’ level of understanding of green chemistry and sustainability subjects and helped them obtain a different perspective in terms of environmental awareness.  相似文献

This paper is the Discussion Documentfor a forthcoming ICMI Study on Applications and Modelling in MathematicsEducation. As will be well-known, fromtime to time ICMI (the InternationalCommission on Mathematical Instruction)mounts specific studies in order toinvestigate, both in depth and in detail, particular fields of interest inmathematics education. The purpose of thisDiscussion Document is to raise someimportant issues related to the theory andpractice of teaching and learningmathematical modelling and applications, and in particular to stimulate reactionsand contributions to these issues and tothe topic of applications and modelling asa whole (see Section 4). Based onthese reactions and contributions, alimited number (approximately 75) ofparticipants will be invited to aconference (the Study Conference)which is to take place in February 2004 inDortmund (Germany). Finally, using thecontributions to this conference, a bookwill be produced (the Study Volume)whose content will reflect thestate-of-the-art in the topic ofapplications and modelling in mathematicseducation and suggest directions for futuredevelopments in research and practice. The authors of this Discussion Document are themembers of the International ProgrammeCommittee for this ICMI Study. Thecommittee consists of 14 people from 12countries, listed at the end of Section4. The structure of the Document isas follows. In Section 1, we identifysome reasons why it seems appropriate tohold a study on applications and modelling.Section 2 sets a conceptual frameworkfor the theme of this Study, and Section3 contains a selection of importantissues, challenges and questions related tothis theme. In Section 4 we describepossible modes and ways of reacting to theDiscussion Document, and in the finalSection 5 we provide a shortbibliography relevant to the theme of thisStudy. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献
