The paper is to explore whether or not group cooperative learning in author’s university can make students learning deeply.In 2004,the Chinese Ministry of Education constituted"College English Teaching Syllabus"(College English Teaching Syllabus,2004,showed in appendix),in which it makes it clear that the properties and objectives of College English teaching are:College English teaching is a teaching system which has the content of English language knowledge,English applied skills,learning strategies,intercultural communication.According to the syllabus,lots of Chinese universities will aim to explore new and effective teaching modes,which will stimulate college English teachers to reflect their traditional teaching methods and make the corresponding improvement inevitably.  相似文献

Cultural differences have a great effect on English learning,especially on college English reading.Reading is a crucial tool in acquiring information and knowledge.Culture cannot be separated from language.College English reading should focus on the differences of culture.It is important to understand how to lay stress on the differences in the course of college English teaching and learning about reading for increasing students’ ability of reading.This thesis analyzes the influence of culture on English reading and tries to set up a principle of teaching English through culture.To support my point of view,the relationship between language and culture is discussed first.Language is a part of culture and shaped by culture;it is also the carrier of culture and reflects cultural features of a community in which the language is spoken.Language and culture are closely related with each other.From the aspect of language teaching and learning,to teach a foreign language is to teach another culture;to learn a language is also to learn another culture.  相似文献

It’s one of the latest uses of technology gaining popular status in education. It is characterized as a computer-based, student-centered inquiry learning activity. The WebQuest has become prominent in many educational areas and has received considerable attention from teachers and educators. In the contemporary society,ESP teaching becomes an increasing prominent teaching course. This paper will focus on the ESP teaching and learning,especially the students’ expectation of ESP course. At first,it will introduce the great importance and background of ESP teaching. Then,it will review the definition,categories and traits of ESP. In the end,it will mainly concern about students’ expectation and perception of ESP course.The main purpose of this paper is to bring up some constructive suggestions for ESP teaching and learning. It suggests that to achieve the goal of facilitating ESP teaching and learning effectively can be realized by understanding the characteristics of ESP teaching and learners’ learning style,choosing the suitable teaching materials,creating some specific fields of this study which is relevant practically,mapping out appropriate evaluation. As for students,they should set up clear goals for ESP learning,adopt such appropriate learning method as the self-construction way,and try the cooperative learning pattern. Besides,ESP teachers also play an important role in this process. This paper first focuses on a brief evaluation of the teacher-centered and the learner-centered methodologies and the relevant result and the necessily for changing. Secondly,it represents the practical ways of teaching based on the learner-cen-tered approach in classrooms to show how students' initiative is given .Thirdly , it presents the guidance for fellow teachers and students in group activities .The author of the paper believes that getting students started is the initial step towards active learning and fruitful teaching. In order to examine the effect of cooperative learning in teaching reading for Chinese non-English majors,an experiment was done on cooperative learning in reading course.After a four-month experiment,a conclusion was drawn that there really existed significant difference in the English reading proficiency between students who received cooperative learning instruction and those who adopted non-cooperative learning instruction.This paper concludes that according to the statistics,cooperative learning is an efficient way to improve students’ reading proficiency.  相似文献

The traditional teaching approach has long been concerned with imparting knowledge,and many college teachers still opt for this method in their practice In English class teachers choose to emphasize ma the language points,ignoring that English language mainly functions as a tool of communication.On the other hand,for students the purpose of learning English is to pass the examination.This traditional approach fails to cultivate students’ communicative ability in English.In recent years,however,the general shift from a knowledge-based education to an ability-oriented one makes it an imperative to reform the traditional teaching methods.As a new kind of teaching theory and teaching activity,task-based approach(TBA) has been introduced and applieded by English teachers in China,especially those engaged in English teaching in higher vocational colleges.  相似文献
