A piece of advice that I often receive is "as long as you do your best."This re- fers to success in every- thing from school to careers. I believe that this is good advice because it tells me that they trust my judgment a n d w i l l r e s p e c t m y decisions, even if they are the wrong ones. This helps to take pressure off of me when I am going to school because I don't haveo live up to certain standards and try to accomplish goals that are unattainable.Instead, I can just worry about doin…  相似文献

The word "no" is one of the first words English-speaking children usually say when they are learning to talk. This is because they hear it so often from their parents."No, sweetie, do not play with the television." "No, dearest son, do not pull Mommy's hair." It was no surprise to me when my son began saying "no" to everything when he was 18 months old. He would often copy the way we reprimanded him, even shaking his little finger at us, much to our amusement.  相似文献

Hi Brad, The Father's Day is coming.I am always too shy to express my feeling to my father as he,in my eyes,is so serious.Maybe his action has said all for him,and there's so little left to the words.Brad,do you also prefer to have actions instead of words to say everything for you? Please tell me more about your story of being a father.  相似文献

Starred by Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan,You've Got Mail is considered the sequel of their 1993 hit Sleepless in Seattle. But in my opinion, they pulled off a romance better than they did in Sleepless in Seattle. Set in the background of New York City, the movie tells the story of Kathleen Kelly, the owner of a small children's bookstore, and Joe Fox,a rich and successful book dealer who opens one of his mega-bookstores just around the corner from Kathleen's.They run into each other as business rivals and despise each other. But what they don't realize is that they actually have a cyber  相似文献

Some people do not like anything to be out of place. They are never late for work; they return their books to the library on time; they remember people's birthdays;and they pay their bills(帐单) as soon as they arrive, and Mr Dodds is such a person.Mr Dodds works in a bank, and lives on his own. The only family he has is in the next town: his sister lives there with her husband, and her son, Mark. Mr Dodds doesn't see his sister or her family, from one year to the next, but he sends them Christmas cards, and he has not forgotten any one of Mark's seven-  相似文献

Why Birds Sing?
Have you ever wondered why birds sing? Maybe you thought that they were just happy. After all, you probably sing or whistle when you are happy. Some scientists believe that birds do sing some of the time just because they are happy. However, they sing most of the time for a very different reason. Their singing is actually a warning to other birds to stay out of their territory.D o you know whata “territory”is?A territory is an area that an an- im al,usually the m ale, claim s(声称)as its ow…  相似文献

When Nasreddin was a boy,he never did what he was told,so his father always told him to do the opposite of what he wanted him to do.One day, when the two were bringing sacks of flour home on their donkeys, they had to cross a shallow river. When they were in the middle of it,one of the sacks on Nasreddin’s donkey began to slip,so his father said,"That sack is nearly in the water!Press down hard on it!"His father of course expected that he would do the opposite, but this time Nasreddin did what his  相似文献

CONVERSATIONS
A:Whose book is this? B:It's mine. Why do you ask? A:Could I borrow it? I've been wanting to read it. B:Be my guest (欢迎你来借书),but I warn you. It's not as good as they say. A:What's the matter with it? B:Well, for one thing the plot (情节) is highly improbable (很不真实) and for another, the characters seem more like paper dolls than people (太不真实). A:That's strange.Usually that author does a good job of characterization (性格描述).I've read three of his books and thought they were all well done. B:I've been a fan of his for a long time too,but he really flubbed (失败 ) on this one.  相似文献

Aiming at solving the problems of lacking listening skills practices in English class. The paper is written for two purposes. Firstly, it intends to drive the attention of present obstacles in English listening teaching. Most children in China have their English classes at schools, however, they don’t learn too much English they just learn about English. After years of learning the problems come up: the college students who have passed CET4(College English Test) and CET6 are unable to speak or listen to native speakers. Secondly, it tries to introduce the listening skills and the methods of teaching it. Language is not a knowledge but a skill, to learn language does not mean to know as many rules and information about it, but is to practice from the first day your learn it and do practice as much as possible.  相似文献

新的一天
Is it morning already?I rub my eyes and get up to ready myself for just another day. It's just another day….I look out my window to see the sun beaming down, caressing(爱抚)the Earth with its golden rays.Above, white clouds float in the brilliant blue sky.I hear a cardinalsinging to his mate as he perches upon my back fence. And a bed of crocus open their purpleheads to the heavens in joyful thankfulness.  相似文献

The Last Leaf
“When the last leaf falls, I must go too. I am tired of waiting. I am tired of thinking. I want to turn loose my hold on everything and go sailing down, down, just like one of those poor tired leaves.” I suppose all that are familiar with the American writer O.Henry and his masterpiece “The Last Leaf may remember the above-mentioned words said by the critically sick artist Joseph at her last gasp. On my first reading the novel, I thought these words was a bit strong. Not until recently do I come to realize what Joseph said actually is the alarm to us all.  相似文献

Teachers are just like our parents. They spend much time on our studies. They always want us to learn as much as possible.Because of this,we always have little time to relax. If I were a teacher,I would teach the students how to learn well.If my students made mistakes in my subject,I would not worry much about it.Failure is the mother of success.I would tell them to review what they have learned and find the solutions to the problem. And I won't forget one important thing, that is,if I were a teacher,I would give them less homework.I would give them more free time to relax themselves.  相似文献

(1)Adam' and Eve are being pul out of the beautiful garden of Eden.(2)It is because they did something God told them not to do. God told them they could eat food from the trees of the garden. But from one tree God said not to eat, or else they would die. He kept that tree as his own.(3}One day when Eve was alone in the garden, a snake spoke to her. It told Eve to eat fruit from the tree from which God told them not to eat . Now, when Jehovah made snakes he did not make them so they could talk. So this  相似文献

Happiness pays off, studies show. Psychologists' seeking the real secrets of happiness report that very happy people tend to be more extroverted and agreeable than less happy people. Our findings suggest that very happy people have rich and satisfying social relationships and spend little time alone relative to average people, "write psychologists Ed Diener and Martin E. P. Seligman in the journal Psychological Science.Solid social relationships do not guarantee happiness, but they are a significant contributing factor. The very happy people whom the authors studied all said they had good quality social relationships. However, the authors write, there is no single key to high happiness. High happiness seems to be like beautiful symphonic music-necessitating many instruments, without any one being sufficient for the beautiful quality.Diener defines happiness as "subjective well-being"-in other words, the person evaluates his or her own quality of life. The question to ask is, "is my life going well, according to the standards I choose to use? "If the answer is "yes, "then that person is judged to be happy.  相似文献
