This paper examines youth practitioner professionality responses to neo-liberal policy changes in youth work and the youth support sector in the UK, from New Labour to Conservative-led administrations. Using a narrative inquiry approach, six early career practitioners explore and recount their experiences of moving into the field during changing political times. The narratives reveal differentiated responses to a climate of increasing managerialism and performativity but point to the value of narrative capital as a personalised resource.  相似文献

Eleven tutor counsellors in the British Open University were interviewed to ascertain how they responded to the idea of using a facilitative teaching style in their tutorials. Their responses have been analysed by a systems model of the tutorial process which indicates the extent to which they possessed a coherent framework, appropriate for teaching in a distance education teaching system. The interviews revealed factors which have echoes in student learning research and which, taken together, offer a tentative explanation of why some tutor counsellors were more amenable to changing their teaching styles than others. This has implications for staff development, not only in distance education systems but for teaching in general.  相似文献

This study identified the operative criteria 69 administrators actually used when recommending teachers for promotion. It included an eight-month cognitive development period for assessing, refining, or altering the criteria or their priorities. Pretesting and posttesting was with Brown’s Personnel Decision Analysis, Form PROM. From 1,242 criteria elicited in each testing, the same 20 categories emerged but with significant shifts in priority of decision power. Experience, student rapport, and the global term leadership decreased in importance. Perceptiveness, intelligence, friendliness, communication, and community rapport increased sharply. Innovation, flexibility, decisions, relationships, and emotional stability remained powerful. This extension of personal construct theory into administrative practice demonstrates the effect of personal realization of operative criteria, one’s own and others’.  相似文献
