As a carefully designed work, Flannert O’Connor’s short story“A Good Man is Hard to Find”is a brilliant example for skillfully using narrative techniques to convey her Catholic faith. Mieke Bal’s theories of time in narratology provide a fresh perspective to explores the characterizations in Flannert O’Connor’s“A Good Man is Hard to Find”. Time functions greatly to the characterizations of the characters through the narrative text in terms of the story and the fabula. It helps to present the characters’ personalities by playing with the sequential ordering, rhythm and frequency. By using these narrative techniques, grandmother’s selfishness, her moral inanition and her considerations that she is morally superior to others is fully expressed to the reader as well as Misfit’s struggling and renascence to his disbeliefs of God and so on.  相似文献

Some of them may connect failure with their pursuit of fame, others may connect failure with wealth and still others may connect failure with achievements. For most students, failure means failing to pass exams. Without good grades, a student may consider himself to be useless and he may even think he is doomed to failure. Whenever he is given a test, he focuses all his attention on the marks. High marks bring him hope and happiness. So every day, all he does is stay inside and study.  相似文献

In most of Lawrence’s works, many heroines are wrapped up in misfortunate clothes, either they have bad marriages or sufferthe loss of their husbands or commit suicide. It seems that Lawrence intends to appeal to the public to attach more emphasis on women’smiserable situations by depicting these women characters, and meanwhile, he shows his own sympathy for their suffering and he also tries toawaken them to struggle for their happiness and their freedom as well.  相似文献

In the history of educational thoughts, there are mainly three analysis paths about the purpose of education which are "Con- structivism", "Functionalism"and"Education with no purpose". In the view of"Constructivism Education", the purpose of education is to realize person's own value. This analysis path include two branches, one believes that the purpose of education is to develop human's nature, the other claims that happiness is supreme. In the view of "Functionalism Education", the purpose of education is what the person could realize outside themselves but not the person own. For example, we could realize human socialization, political integration, economic growth or social equality through education. In the view of the "Education with no purpose", the purpose of education is to get more and better education, there is no other purpose besides education. Though there are many differences among those three analysis paths, they have a common point which is also the ulti mate target of education, it is to "educate full development person".  相似文献

Many countries have language policies with the purpose of promoting or discouraging the use of a particular language or a set of languages. In a multilingual country, the official language(s) is always favored by the national language policy; in contrast, the minority languages, to some extent, are hindered in their development. This paper, by the case studies of minority languages in New Zealand, Netherlands, and China, illustrates the effects of these countries’ general language policies on their minority languages. Minority languages are seen as a part of cultural identity of minority groups. To protect their own culture and identity, they devote themselves to seek the equal right for their languages and cultures. In making language policies, the authorities should give respect and regard to the minority languages.  相似文献
