Information control processes designed to prioritize the most relevant information are important for enhancing the service experience of users. Gatekeeping is the process of filtering and disseminating information in online information services. This study investigates the effects of gatekeeping activities on information services and the resulting impact on the value of such services from a user's perspective in an information service environment characterized by online and offline transactions. Various hybrid gatekeeping activities are derived through focus group interviews with information services planners. A survey of information service users reveals values that could be obtained from the information services. The results of these two data gathering tools suggest an information service framework for hybrid environments. The findings enable the development of value-added information services for users through efficient information control in hybrid online and offline environments. 相似文献

The number of migrant farmer workers in China has increased so rapidly that they can't be ignored anymore as a vulnerable group in the coming information society. This study formulates a theoretical framework on the process of seeking for government information online and employs a method of questionnaire survey to investigate the information needs of migrant farmer workers and their behavior of using e-government service. The findings drawn include inconsistency of information seeking behaviors with information needs, and conditions of transfer from potential users of e-government services to actual users, such as information literacy, IT environment, the influence of social networks, the operations of government websites, and targeted services. Several policy recommendations are presented based on these findings, including improvements in the workers' information capacity, construction of special e-government programs aimed at such workers, and enhancement of public library systems and government service offerings to this target group. 相似文献

In the “digital intelligence” environment, the service quality of online health information services has become increasingly prominent. Using the Information Ecology theory as the research perspective, the factors affecting the quality of online health information service was investigated. Using the fuzzy D-I-S (Decision-making rial and Evaluation Laboratory- Interpretive structural modelling- system dynamics simulation) method, various factors of online health information service quality, such as importance, role and hierarchical relationship, and the impact of these factors on future services were analyzed. The main factors affecting the service quality were identified. Four of the most important core factors, the intelligence of technology, interactivity of services, ease of use of information, system ease-of-use, were simulated. Results showed that the service quality could be significantly improved by increasing the investment proportion of these four core factors. A basis for the construction of online health information service quality evaluation indicators, and also a reference for the improvement of online health information service quality was provided. 相似文献

At an academic health science center, librarians partnered with a community research engagement program to offer a suite of consumer health information services. The services included training staff in the use of online consumer health resources, purchasing a print collection of monographs, and creating a guide to both the online and print resources for staff use.
