This paper reports an illuminative small‐scale study that trialled a survey instrument with 55 final‐year undergraduates categorised by age. The survey investigated students' use of information and communication technologies (ICT), including the Internet, and students' engagement in lecturer impressing strategies and cheating behaviours such as plagiarism. The study disclosed differences in ICT usage by age, but these differences did not achieve significance. The study disclosed also that 0.27 of the sample had reported a single instance of cheating behaviours while 0.2 of the sample had reported multiple instances of cheating behaviours. Analyses of data discerned no significant correlations between these cheating behaviours and age or ICT capability, but significant negative correlations were found between cheating behaviours and engagement in certain Internet activities. Inferences are tentatively drawn for further research and for academic practices.  相似文献

The results of a student evaluation of teaching instrument are analyzed for a semester of classes at a large collegiate business school, at both the graduate and undergraduate academic level. In particular, we concentrate on the relationship between responses to the instrument and student grades. The results show interesting differences, suggesting dissimilarities, especially for gender, academic level, and field. Our research suggests that academic administrators and others need be cautious when they use such data in evaluating teaching.  相似文献

Increasing awareness of child abuse and neglect (CAN) raises questions about how well teachers are prepared for their role in child protection. This paper assesses and differentiates training needs of first-year students (n = 216) in Northern Ireland. Multiple-choice tests were used to assess knowledge of CAN statistics; recognising and reporting; policies, procedures, and legislative frameworks; and direct work with children. Considerable gaps in knowledge were found. Results between student groups varied and provide evidence of the need to develop pre-service child protection training. The importance of differentiation between student groups in terms of training content is emphasised.  相似文献

Two major considerations underlie a set of proposals, outlined in this paper, for a different technology of investigating the psychology of political development in Canadian children and adolescents. First, the paper deals with Hodgetts' (1968) findings, which point out a clear need for further study of the development of political orientations of Canadian students. Second, the paper surveys the typically normative, atheoretical, and methodologically constraining approaches of American investigations of political development in children. Recommendations are advanced to facilitate theory-building and methodological improvement in future investigations. Specific suggestions deal with the construction of an instrument that will elicit scorable information.
Résumé Il y a deux considérations principales qui forment la base de propositions présentées dans cet article visant à une technologie différente d'étudier la psychologie du développement politique des enfants et des adolescents canadiens. Premièrement, cet article traite des conclusions de Hodgetts (1968) qui signalent la nécessité d'une étude plus poussée du développement des orientations politiques des étudiants canadiens. Deuxièmement, cet article examine les approches typiquement normatives et nonthéoriques des études américaines du développement politique chez les enfants; cette manière d'aborder le problème est restrictive du point de vue méthodologique. On fait des recommandations afin de faciliter la construction des théories et le progrès méthodologique dans les études à venir. Des suggestions spécifiques touchent à la construction d'un instrument qui obtiendra des renseignements qu'on peut noter.

46 3-month-old infants were presented with geometric stimuli moving laterally at two different velocities (34.8 degrees/sec; 103.3 degrees/sec). The results were interpreted as evidence that 3-month-old infants could discriminate between geometric forms moving at velocities that, according to previous findings, might interfere with shape discrimination. The findings are discussed in relation to the possible interactive effect of type and velocity of movement on geometric form discrimination.  相似文献
