This paper discusses the political processes involved in an academic program evaluation. Specifically, the paper focuses on how evaluative information is politically linked to programmatic decisions within the context of various organizational and evaluative utilization models. We thank Debra J. Ackerman, Peggy L. Apple, W. Steven Barnett, and Stacie G. Goffin for their thoughtful commentaries on our article “Implementing New York's Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program: An Exploratory Study of Systemic Impacts” (this issue). Our response focuses on two main themes that emerged from the commentaries: (a) the generalizability of the sample and the study's methodological limitations and (b) protectionism of the existing early care and education system. In light of our study and the commentators' main points, we provide a set of policy recommendations for improving quality, accessibility, and affordability in the current early care and education system. 相似文献

This paper includes an overview of curriculum information and the basic techniques of a multisensory approach for teaching
alphabet and dictionary skills, reading, spelling, and cursive handwriting. It also reports the results of a four-year study
of reading and spelling in both remedial and nonremedial classes in a public school. The California Achievement Test (CAT)
scores in reading and spelling for students in both remedial and nonremedial classes improved over baseline scores following
this multisensory approach. Additionally, there was a tendency for the CAT mean scores to increase corresponding to the number

Building on the author's experience in leadership development in Roman Catholic parishes and recent work in the field of congregational studies, this essay examines the religious educator's role as a catalyst in the transformation of the culture of the local church. As an alternative to an instructional/schooling approach to religious education, the paper proposes a model of congregational education directed specifically to the transformation of the corporate life of the faith community by its members working together to reshape concrete behaviors, structures, and roles in order to carry out the church's mission and ministry. This argument is developed through a discussion of foundational assumptions about the significance of congregational life for the church's educational mission and a brief case study illustrating central dynamics in the process of congregational education. The paper concludes with observations about the range of skills required of congregational educators, especially their ability to understand and evaluate the complex dynamics of congregational life in a disciplined way. 相似文献
