In this collaborative research, we designed an e-mentoring program for novice teachers and explored online interactions between mentors and mentees, participant satisfaction, and the perceived benefits of the program for mentees and mentors. Our study included 14 mentees, 14 mentors, and 6 teacher educators. Data were gathered through online messages and semi-structured interviews. We found that the interaction frequency changed based on the participant group, the e-mentoring environment was mostly problem-based, and participants provided cognitive, affective, and instrumental support. Moreover, participant-related factors, as well as factors related to the design of the e-mentoring program were found to have influenced teacher satisfaction with the program. We also determined that the e-mentoring program provided different types of benefits for the professional development of mentees and mentors. Finally, we concluded that e-mentoring can be an influential method to help novice teachers providing that the design and participants of the program are meticulously reviewed.  相似文献

This article analyses the short and the long-term relations between higher education and unemployment in Turkey for the period 1960–2007. It chooses the recently developed ARDL cointegration and Granger causality of Dolado and Lütkepohl (1996) methods. While the proxy of unemployment is total unemployment rate, higher education graduates were chosen to represent higher education. The cointegration and error correction analysis show that higher education is one of the factors which increases the unemployment rate both in the short and the long-run in Turkey. In addition, findings of causality analysis reveal that there is a bi-directional causality between higher education and unemployment and support evidence in favour of Plümper and Schneider (2007)'s theory. Overall, the study concludes that, if governments wish to benefit optimally from the higher education graduates in Turkey, they should not invest more in higher education than the economy needs.  相似文献

There is an acknowledged problem with high non-completion rates of PhDs in the UK. Studies show that one of the major reasons for this is deficiencies in the supervision received. However, the unique and one-to-one nature of student/supervisor relationships makes it difficult to investigate the extent of these deficiencies. This article proposes a framework to evaluate the supervision requirements from the students' perspective. The supervision is divided into three elements: personal, indirect research-related and direct research-related help. The perceived short falls between expected and provided supervision for each element are then identified. A questionnaire survey is designed to act both as a test of the framework and to assess supervision requirements and their provision for PhD students in the construction management and engineering discipline in the UK. In addition, the student population is characterized and selected attributes; age, sex, industrial experience, full- or part-time status, nationality and funding sources, are compared with their supervision requirements. The results showed that the biggest discrepancy between expected and provided supervision was in direct research-related help. The framework is most valuable at individual level and for the framework to be effective communication is seen as being critical.  相似文献

This study is based on an actual simulation application project carried out for a parcel transportation company. In its current system, the company has a wide network of branches throughout the country. Although, it is good to have a large network in terms of accessibility and increasing the business volume, performing the same operations in almost every branch is costly ineffective. Consequently, the company managers considered merging several branches in the same neighborhood and carrying out most of the tasks in these central branches. As they consulted us to see if this idea is feasible or not, we decided to use simulation modeling. After carefully investigating the details of the system we developed a comprehensive model of this dynamic and complicated system and looked at the feasibility and also the limitations of their approach. After getting the results, we noticed that what they planned would not work out and developed another central branch design that could work out. Using design of experiments we obtained the behavior of the suggested system under different business scenarios. In this study, we describe the details of this interesting application of simulation modeling.  相似文献
