This qualitative case study was an examination of a team-based faculty/mentor-led International Doctoral Student Support Group
(IDSSG) designed specifically around issues in preparing and mentoring international doctoral students for careers in academia.
Twelve participants were selected to participate in a support/focus group that met twice a month for an academic year to attend
workshops and discuss their lives as doctoral students. The data set was comprised of two pre- and post-surveys and two in-depth
pre- and post-interviews. Findings in the themes of international doctoral students’ graduate school experiences and the impact
of the faculty-led support group are presented and discussed.

A computer-aided method for simplification and identification of linear discrete systems via step-response matching is presented. Golub's algorithm for solving least-squares problem is used to find the optimum coefficients of the reduced model. The advantages of this method are (1) for model reduction, both the time response and frequency response within the bandwidth region of the reduced model are very close to those of the original system; and (2) for system identification, the identified model is very close to the original system. In the illustrative examples considered in this paper the results of the proposed method appear to be better than those of other methods in the current literature. 相似文献

首先,分析中国大陆地区十大图书馆学和情报学期刊2002年7月至2005年6月计三年刊载文年6月计三年刊载文章主题,以了解中国大陆地区使用者和信息行为的研究现状。研究发现,“图书馆自动化、网络化”是当前中国大陆图书馆学、情报学领域的重点研究方向,并已累积丰硕成果;“中国图书馆事业”、“图书馆工作者”等主题也是学者关注的重点;而关于信息行为或使用者的研究相对缺乏。其次,将上述分析结果与台湾类似研究进行比较,并对中国大陆忽视使用者研究的现状提出分析。最后,作者希望藉由本文之分析,发掘中国信息和知识传播研究的长短处,并针对未来研究方向提出建议。 相似文献

Research on the roles of the board of unitary board systems is well established, while explorations of dual board systems are very limited. We know little about nonprofit sport organisations board roles in countries such as Taiwan that operate with a dual board structure. In consequence, this study explored the roles taken by the board of directors and the board of supervisors in Taiwanese nonprofit sport organisations. Four overarching board of director roles were identified: manage vision and purpose; board duty; human resource and fundraising; and stakeholder focus. For the board of supervisors two primary functions emerged: monitoring results; and board duty and process. The findings of the study extend our understanding of the governance of nonprofit sport organisations and the differences that exist between dual board and single board systems of governance. 相似文献

A cell rotation method by using optoelectronic tweezers (OET) is reported. The binary image of a typical OET device, whose light and dark sides act as two sets of parallel plates with different ac voltages, was used to create a rotating electric field. Its feasibility for application to electrorotation of cells was demonstrated by rotating Ramos and yeast cells in their pitch axes. The electrorotation by using OET devices is dependent on the medium and cells' electrical properties, the cells' positions, and the OET device's geometrical dimension, as well as the frequency of the electric field. 相似文献

The teacher–student writing conference has long been recognized as being able to provide personalized instruction and contribute to learners’ writing development. However, teachers often find it time-consuming to conference with individual students on a regular basis. Conferencing with pairs of students, therefore, may become a more pragmatic option. While a promising approach, so far the practice of paired conferencing has received scant research attention. This exploratory case study investigated the dynamics of paired conferences held between 1 writing instructor and 23 Chinese-speaking undergraduates learning English as a foreign language, as well as students’ perceptions of paired conferencing. Data collected included 11 videotaped conferences, audiotaped interviews with the instructor and students, and a student questionnaire. Through a discourse analysis performed on the conference data, this study found that to justify and facilitate paired conferencing, the instructor employed strategies such as assigning pre-conference peer review, identifying shared problems, and involving the other tutee in problem solving. Results also indicated that peer interaction during the conference was limited, but the pre-conference peer review seemed to contribute to learners’ awareness of their own strengths and weaknesses. Overall, this study showed that students held favorable opinions about paired conferencing although sharing teacher time and attention might still be a concern with some students. 相似文献

This study used a machine learning framework in conjunction with a large battery of measures from 9,718 school-age children (ages 9–11) from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive DevelopmentSM (ABCD) Study to identify factors associated with fluid cognitive functioning (FCF), or the capacity to learn, solve problems, and adapt to novel situations. The identified algorithm explained 14.74% of the variance in FCF, replicating previously reported socioeconomic and mental health contributors to FCF, and adding novel and potentially modifiable contributors, including extracurricular involvement, screen media activity, and sleep duration. Pragmatic interventions targeting these contributors may enhance cognitive performance and protect against their negative impact on FCF in children. 相似文献
