This paper explores the relationship between a theory of learning and the theory of contemporary society as late modernity. The first part briefly describes a research project into adult learning and its findings; thereafter there are three parts which relate learning to biography in different waysinitially in a more general manner, and thereafter in relation to the forms of experience from which it emanates, and to the types of learning which occur as a result of those experiences.  相似文献

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine if elementary school children can learn selected physical skills by using self-instructive materials. Two classes of grade 4 children were used in this study. Two classes of 30 subjects, an experimental group and a control group, were pretested and post-tested with a skill test consisting of seven tumbling-gymnastic stunts. Each subject in the experimental group was given self-instructive materials and permitted to use in his own way. were guided and encouraged byr classroom teacher. The experimental group could work with the materials every day, both at home and at school, from early November to the middle of May. The control group did not use the materials. Analysis of the data indicated that children using self-instructive materials improved significantly in all areas tested.  相似文献

This case study of developing teacher attitudes, beliefs and content knowledge at one primary school in the North‐West of England deals with the new spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG) elements of the National Curriculum, focusing on grammatical terms and concepts. It uses data collected over 10 months from June 2014 to March 2015, including surveys, interviews and comments made during post‐observation discussions and during SPaG CPD sessions. The findings suggest that, while much work remains to be done in developing teachers’ knowledge base, attitudes are largely supportive of teaching children grammar terms and concepts.  相似文献

To meet the evolving demands of health care delivery, University of Utah Health Care is transforming at an unprecedented pace. The Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library is supporting this transformation through strategic sharing of physical space and critical evaluation of the collection. Key partners have been invited to share library space. To accommodate these new partners, the library had to quickly eliminate most of its print collection. The de-accessioning of print materials afforded an opportunity to evaluate the way in which the library provides content to users and to explore creative alternatives that continue and enhance library services.  相似文献

Barriers to the identification of gifted students from traditionally underserved groups have been well documented. Although contemporary definitions of giftedness give heed to both performance and potential, the literature provides little concrete direction for how “potential” can be recognized, particularly in underperforming students who have lacked access to the kind of high-quality, personally relevant, and appropriately challenging curriculum likely to bring their talents to the fore. It is argued that high-quality curriculum can serve as an effective catalyst for the emergence of diverse talent but that such an objective must be a deliberate focus of curriculum planning. The “Famous Five” exercise presented in this article is a heuristic procedure that has been used with experienced educators and is designed to stimulate the thinking of curriculum developers as they design opportunities for unmasking diverse gifted potential.  相似文献

This paper falls into two parts – a Western interpretation and an Eastern critique of the same process. The first part provides an interpretation of how we learn to become culturally embedded individuals. The paper notes the learning processes in the formation of the cultural and national self. We, in the West, have traditionally assumed that the process and its interpretation is universal because we have assumed the universality of human nature. Thereafter the paper seeks to adopt the philosophy of the East in which we move away from individualism and recognise that all people live in a universal network: this calls for a different interpretation of the process of becoming selves and so some of the implications of this Eastern approach are examined.  相似文献

This paper reports on the development stages of three attitudes to science and school scales for use with children aged from 5-11 years. The investigation is part of a project intended to improve pupil achievement in science in 16 schools in an English city. The base-line performance of the attitude scales with over 800 pupils is reported. Attitude sub-scales measure 'liking school', 'independent investigator', 'science enthusiasm', the 'social context' of science, and 'science as a difficult subject' with Cronbach Alpha reliabilities for the year groups varying from above 0.8 to below 0.7. For the sample, both boys' and girls' enthusiasm for science declines progressively with age alongside a similar decline in their perception that science is difficult.  相似文献

This paper demonstrates the viability and usefulness of word processing as a pedagogical tool for developing writing skills in the language classroom. Although the specific context is English as a Foreign Language (EFL), the applications are relevant to all language teachers working in primary, secondary or tertiary levels.
