Librarians in the Lab: Toward Radically Re-Engineering Data Curation Services at the Research Coalface

This article presents a case study where students aspiring to professional library roles who need to understand diverse disciplinary research data practices are placed in a laboratory with domain researchers during an immersive module within graduate MLIS programs at the School of Information Sciences (iSchool), University of Pittsburgh. A qualitative analysis of evaluation commentary from faculty researchers and MLIS students demonstrates their positive bilateral learning experiences. The potential extension of the immersive model for the delivery of research data services directly to researchers at their point of need is explored and a connection made with the established concept of an informationist, as a medical library specialist working in a clinical setting. The re-engineering challenges for academic libraries in operationalizing the immersive model for research data services are articulated, together with the challenges for iSchools in building workforce capacity and capability for immersive team science.  相似文献

Anna Maria Piussi's article “towards a pedagogy of sexual difference: education and female genealogy”, Gender and Education, 2, (2) 1990, is criticised on the grounds that it ignores differences between women, and that it fails to challenge the construction of gender as a binary opposition. An alternative interpretation of the relationship between the gendering of knowledge and women's subordination is put forward, and marshalled, in support of a feminist pedagogy that deconstructs the equality‐difference antimony.  相似文献

In recent years BBC Continuing Education and public libraries have established a successful policy of collaboration, with public libraries advising on local resources and acting as referral points and local back‐up agencies for educational broadcasts. This paper summarises a joint BBC Educational Broadcasting Services and Cheshire Libraries project, started during autumn 1981, designed to encourage the process of linking educational broadcasting, public libraries and the community. The project's main aims were to see how the library service might increase involvement with the work of BBC Continuing Education, thereby becoming a more effective partner in developing interest in Adult Education, and to explore how a public library might operate as a multi‐media resource centre for the public in relation to educational broadcasting.  相似文献

Although a great deal has been written about the need for more research in the HPT field, specific research questions have not recently been identified. This study used a three‐round Delphi approach to identify research questions of interest to experts in the field, resulting in 100 questions that were classified under ten categories. Risk attitude assessment using roulette and a supply chain simulation

Many topics that are taught in supply chain management (SCM) programs include elements of variability and risk. With quantitative tools in particular, it is assumed that the decision makers using the tools are risk neutral, which is typically not the case in real-life decision situations. The topic of an individual's attitude toward risk has received limited attention in SCM literature and is not a high-profile topic in SCM textbooks. The teaching exercise presented in this paper uses two games—roulette and a SCM simulation—to provide students with an assessment of their own attitude toward risk, and in doing so, facilitates a classroom discussion of risk and risk attitude. These games were developed by the authors and can be played either within Excel or a web application.  相似文献
