An assessment of the accessibility of PDF versions of selected journal articles published in a WCAG 2.0 era (2014–2018) 下载免费PDF全文

Two hundred portable document format (PDF) articles from four Web of Science‐indexed disability‐related journals were analysed to assess their accessibility. Fifty articles from each journal published between 2014 and 2018 were examined using expert manual inspection, Adobe Acrobat Pro XI, PDF Accessibility Checker 3 and NVDA screen reader. Results show that only 15.5% of the documents were tagged, only 10.5% had alternative text for images, 74.5% had bookmarks to facilitate navigation, and 87% had meaningful titles in their title fields. However, image alternative texts were meaningless, and title fields were not displayed when the document was open. However, all the documents had accessibility permissions enabled; hence, they could be read with Adobe Acrobat Pro XI Read Out Loud feature and NVDA screen reader. All the articles had an alternative HTML version of their full text in the same location on their website as the PDF versions. The inconsistency with which each PDF was produced suggests the need for an improvement in the workflow process to improve accessibility. 相似文献

This study evaluated perceived assessment practices needs among social studies teachers in Cross River State, Nigeria, in
relation to some teacher factors (attitude towards social studies, sex, teaching experience and educational qualification).
Subjects who participated in this study were 297 social studies teachers (144 males and 153 females) from 116 secondary schools
in the state. Teacher Classroom Assessment Practices Needs Questionnaire (TCANQ) and Teacher Attitude towards social studies
Inventory were used for data collection in the study. Cronbach coefficient alpha of .81 and .93 were obtained as estimate
of construct validity and internal consistency reliability for the Teacher Classroom Assessment Practices Needs Questionnaire
and the Teacher Attitude towards social studies Inventory respectively. Independent t-test, one way analysis of variance and Pearson Product Moment correlation were used to test the hypotheses. Results indicated
that gender and teacher qualification significantly influence perceived assessment practices needs of social studies teachers.
Significant positive relationship was observed between years of teaching experience and expressed assessment practices needs;
and between attitude towards social studies and assessment needs. It was concluded that factors such as years of teaching
experience, attitude towards social studies, gender and educational qualification significantly influence social studies teachers

Many researchers, educators, administrators, policymakers and members of the general public doubt the prevalence of high-achieving African-American males in urban high schools capable of excelling in mathematics. As part of a larger study, the current study explored the educational experiences of four high-achieving African-American males attending an urban high school with particular emphasis placed on their mathematical experiences, which have been largely understudied in the educational research literature. Specifically, using African-centered worldview as the theoretical framework and phenomenological qualitative methods, the researchers examined participants’ lived experiences and how said experiences shaped their meaning of mathematics. Findings indicated teacher influence, peer influence, achieving success through sports and economic mobility were the most influential factors impacting mathematics meaning-making. Observers of democratic polities decry a seeming increase in social and political polarization. This article outlines the conditions under which Internet-based news exposure can facilitate polarization. Analyses of data from a nationally representative United States panel study reveal that frequency of news consumption over the Internet can widen disagreements between Democrats and Republicans over a wide range of social and political issues. The results reveal few signs of a similar Internet news exposure effect for disagreement linked to race and income. These findings point to some possible mechanisms of, and limitations to, processes driving social and political polarization. 相似文献
