Strategic indicators provide timely information about the trends that reflect the current condition and trajectory of an institution in terms of its ability to pursue its mission. Although extensive research has produced a number of strategic indicators for colleges and universities, there is a dearth of research regarding strategic indicators relative to the mission of Christian higher education. In the present Delphi study, a panel of 26 academic leaders from five Assemblies of God colleges reached consensus on 28 strategic indicators relevant for use at their institutions after three rounds of questionnaires. Because the integration of faith and learning, as well as students’ spiritual formation, are distinctive to the mission of Christian higher education, there was a special emphasis on the development of these strategic indicators. The panel selected three indicators for the integration of faith and learning. According to feedback from the panel, many more indicators of integration could have been selected if panelists first agreed on a definition of the integration of faith and learning, as well as how it is to be applied across the disciplines. Two strategic indicators were selected by the panel for the spiritual formation of students, but according to panelists many more could be selected in future research if panelists shared a set of agreed-upon goals and measures of spiritual formation. These findings suggest that future research on the development of strategic indicators for institutions of Christian higher education should begin by clearly defining the concepts that are central to their mission, such as spiritual formation and integration of faith and learning, then identifying inputs, processes, and outcomes measures that are appropriate for those concepts. 相似文献

Purpose: This study explored the effect of whole-body vibration (WBV) using accelerations of 2.56 g to 7.68 g on lower-body detraining. Methods: All participants (N = 20) were trained using a lower-body resistance-training program for 30 min twice per week from Week 0 to Week 6. At the end of the program, they were randomly assigned to a control group that performed no further training or a WBV group that performed a progressive static WBV program. Data for the 5-repetition-maximum (5RM) squat and extensors and flexors of the knee and ankle were collected at Weeks 0, 6, 8, 10, and 12 for all participants. Results: Two-way (condition vs. time) analysis of variance revealed that although the WBV group maintained strength in the 5RM from Week 6 through Week 8 and the control group had a lower 5RM in Week 8 from Week 6, no differences in the 5RM squat existed between the groups at Week 8. Two-way factorial multivariate analysis of variance revealed no differences between the groups at any of the time for torque of knee flexion, dorsiflexion, or plantar flexion. Conclusion: Static WBV of 2.56 g to 7.68 g did not attenuate detraining of the flexors and extensors of the knee and ankle. 相似文献

AbstractIn 1938, Mormon missionaries from North America, under the leadership of Frederick Salem Williams, formed an athletic club, Club Atlético Los Mormones (‘The Mormons Athletic Club’, CALM), in Buenos Aires, Argentina. CALM would sponsor professional teams in baseball, softball, and basketball, all bearing the name Los Mormones (‘The Mormons’). Los Mormones won three league championships in the four years they played baseball and four championships in the five years they played softball. Two of their basketball players would become national all-stars, one of whom would represent Argentina at the South American Championship in 1940. Williams served as president of the softball league and vice president of the baseball league. Los Mormones’ story is outlined and situated in relation to the various discourses that, woven together, constitute the cultural context of modern Argentine sport: physical culture and modernity, United States-Argentine relations, amateurism versus professionalism, and the spread of North American sports to Latin America. 相似文献

For the past three decades, Sanger’s method has been the primary DNA sequencing technology; however, inherent limitations in cost and complexity have limited its usage in personalized medicine and ecological studies. A new technology called “thermosequencing” can potentially reduce both the cost and complexity of DNA sequencing by using a microfluidic platform [Esfandyarpour, Pease, and Davis, J. Vac. Sci. Technol. B26, 661 (2008)]. To optimize the efficiency of the technology, finite element analysis was used to model the thermosequencing system by simulating the DNA incorporation reaction series and the resulting product concentration and heat production. Different models of the thermosequencing platform were created to simulate the effects of the materials surrounding the system, to optimize the geometry of the system, and to concentrate reaction heat into specific regions for detection in the real system. The resulting concentrations of reaction products were used to calibrate the reaction speed and to design the heat sensors in the thermosequencing technology. We recommend a modified gated structure for the microfluidic detection platform by using control valves and show how this new platform could dramatically improve the detection efficiency. 相似文献

In this article we provide new evidence for mathematical problem-solving abilities of pre-school children. These problem-solving behaviours occurred in a study of sharing of discrete items by dealing, in which we examined the abilities of three categories of counters to solve a discrete re-distribution problem.
