Many local education authorities neglect the development of closed‐circuit television facilities because they fear they may become trapped in a complex studio‐based system. Parents are an important source of advice when adolescents are faced with decisions about postsecondary education and career planning; however, parents often need to seek information to facilitate their child’s career development. This study applies the theory of motivated information management (TMIM) to evaluate the decision-making process parents undergo in this context and tests the boundaries of TMIM by considering how individuals use face-to-face (FtF) and online sources to alleviate uncertainty-related anxieties. A community sample of parents (N?=?937) completed a survey regarding their information seeking behaviors surrounding their adolescent’s career development. Parents reported using both FtF and online sources to seek information about their child’s postsecondary plans, and they engaged in different evaluative processes depending on the source of information. Theoretical implications related to TMIM and practical implications related to parents as sources of information in adolescent career development are discussed. 相似文献
This article focused on the analysis of four years of circulation data from print monographs acquired through an approval plan and firm ordering and incorporated interlibrary loan data to compare purchases with demand. A group of subject areas, including communication, psychology, and engineering were selected as examples for in-depth analysis. Using R programming, the authors automated an analysis to identify areas needing attention. The results from the analysis, together with librarians' subject expertise, enabled librarians to adjust monograph purchases accordingly. 相似文献
Electronic sports, cybersports, gaming, competitive computer gaming, and virtual sports are all synonyms for the term eSports. Regardless of the term used, eSports is now becoming more accepted as a sport and gamers are being identified as athletes within society today. eSports has even infiltrated higher education in the form of an intercollegiate athletic sport, as two university athletic departments have made eSports an official varsity sport where scholarships are provided to collegiate eSports athletes. Thus, the intertwining of eSports and university athletics brings into question whether eSports should be considered sport by broader society. This article provides a brief history of eSports, a further developed definition of eSports, and a comparison of eSports to traditional philosophical and sociological definitions of sport. The purpose of this article is to provoke thought on the academically accepted definitions of sport and debate whether eSports should be considered a sport. A policy at a New Zealand University to assess lecturers’ teaching performance as an administrative requirement provided for information to be obtained from the chairperson, colleagues, students and the individual being evaluated.
In designing the summative scales to obtain student feedback, four conditions were seen as important for achieving a system acceptable to both lecturers and students. These conditions—length of scale, time to complete the scale, face validity of the scale and the acceptability of the procedures used to distribute the scales, together with the context within which teaching takes place at the Institution, provided constraints to the design of the summative scales.
Following 98 lecturing and 43 course evaluations, the scales were subjected to a principal factor analysis. This analysis showed that the items most strongly related to overall teaching effectiveness, as assessed by students, included the lecturer's ability to communicate ideas and information and to stimulate interest in the subject.
By pooling student ratings from different teaching situations for any one lecture, a Teaching Performance Profile was prepared. This profile increased the reliability and validity of the information obtained. At the same time it provided a summary suitable for combining with the evaluative . information from the other three sources in making a judgement as to the individual's level of teaching competency. 相似文献
