Applying Herzberg's motivation-hygiene theory, we studied the determinants of student satisfaction in using R in a Decision Support Systems course that previously used Excel to teach Data Mining and Business Analytics (DMBA). The course is a degree requirement, and prior programming experience is not a prerequisite. We hypothesized that motivators for student satisfaction with R would include: (i) an intrinsic interest in DMBA, (ii) a perception that R is a better tool than Excel for DMBA, and (iii) a favorable view of R as a facilitator of career advancement. We postulated that the hygiene factor was the compulsory course requirement to learn R, a new and challenging language to students in this study. Data from 120 students, analyzed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Generalized Additive Modeling (GAM), showed that motivators were positively related to satisfaction while hygiene factors were neutral. Students showed willingness to take on a harder challenge in exchange for intrinsic and future career benefits. The model can be useful in curriculum design or career advisement to increase student satisfaction in learning new software skills while meeting market demands. 相似文献

Paraproteinemia is characterised by clonal proliferation of plasma cells. A common laboratory finding in paraproteinemia being a monoclonal peak in serum protein electrophoresis (M band). But there are factors which produce a peak similar to M spike in serum protein electrophoresis and these factors are known as pseudoparaproteins. This case report discusses a rare cause of pseudo M spike in a known case of autoimmune hemolytic anaemia due to administration of drug-Rituximab, a monoclonal antibody by itself. 相似文献

In recent years, HIV-positive athletes hove increasingly made the headlines. leading to questions and concerns regarding HIV transmission through sport. Based on limited understanding and irrational fear. athletes have been excluded from sport competitions or encouraged to retire prematurely. In other cases. they have been subjected to random, mandatory HIV testing prior to sport competition. Because HIV/AIDS is a medical and social problem, information from health-related sources is included in this analysis, including the modes of HIV transmission. This analysis focuses on further issues related to rights, obligations, risks, privacy, and policy. The growing dilemma for the sport professionals to weigh an athlete's right to privacy against their own duty to warn in the decision-making process is examined, with a discussion on mandatory HIV testing for athletes. Guidelines based on principles of medical ethics are offered to aid sport practitioners in providing all athletes with the best possible service. 相似文献

In this paper, the authors describe their experience of establishing an action research/learning-based doctoral program in Singapore by an Australian university, which was designed to help managers get academic accreditation while solving workplace problems. The program was designed by four managers working in Singapore and their supervisors. These managers had completed a Ph.D. program using action learning/action research in their workplace under the supervision of Australian academics. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of 3,3′-diindolylmethane (DIM) on inflammatory markers, estrogen receptors (ER), progesterone receptors (PR), level of glycoprotein and the mast cell population in 7,12-dimethylbenz (a) anthracene (DMBA) 25 mg/kg b.wt. induced rat mammary carcinogenesis. After 8 weeks of tumor formation, rats had access to an oral administrated with DIM 10 mg/kg b.wt. and DIM@CS-NP 0.5 mg/kg body weight respectively for 8 weeks. The oral administration of DIM@CS-NP 0.5 mg/kg b.wt. suppressed the Cox-2, NF-κB and TNF-α protein expression on DMBA induced rats compared to DIM 10 mg/kg b.wt. The ER/PR levels were increased on DMBA induced rats, treated with DIM@CS-NP 0.5 mg/kg b.wt. reduced ER/PR level as well as glycoprotein and mast cell population than DIM 10 mg/kg b.wt. The result shows that, DIM@CS-NP 0.5 mg/kg b.wt. has the potentially inhibit abnormal levels of inflammatory markers, ER, PR, levels of glycoprotein and mast cell population compared to DIM 10 mg/kg b.wt. 相似文献
