There is the need for a reliable and valid measure to facilitate emotional intelligence (EI) research on international college students (ICSs). The present study examined the factorial invariance of the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS), a trait EI measure, in a sample of 628 ICSs. A web-based survey was developed to facilitate data collection across the country. Results of a confirmatory factor analysis support the factorial invariance of the WLEIS in ICSs. Reliabilities and scale correlations further supported the psychometric properties of the measure for international students. Additional findings indicate possible country-of-origin difference on trait EI among different national groups. An erratum to this article can be found at  相似文献

This study explores the mediation effect of gender role orientation on the influence of sex on coping strategies and how the mediation effects differ across the two cultures of the United States and China. A total of 478 respondents (243 Americans and 235 resident Chinese) participated in this study. Employing Hayes’ (2013) PROCESS for testing moderated mediation models using conditional process analysis, we found that femininity mediated the influence of sex on both emotional and instrumental coping, and the mediation effects were significantly different between American participants and Chinese participants. We also found that national culture moderated the influence of sex on coping strategies when gender role orientation was being held constant. This study adopts an integrated model of sex, gender role orientation, culture, and coping. This model allows us to examine both general and specific relationships among interested variables, which contributes to existing literature in several ways.  相似文献

Social commerce has evolved quickly in practice and gained attention in the IS discipline. However, trust has remained a vital component and is dominantly worth investigating. The purpose of this study, therefore, is to examine the roles of social commerce constructs and social support constructs (i.e., emotional support and informational support) in establishing trust on online community platforms. The study will apply the theoretical foundation of social commerce constructs proposed by Hajli. In order to provide a detailed understanding of the proposed model, a quantitative study involving a survey data gathered from online communities in Malaysia, including Facebook, Trip Advisor and LinkedIn was conducted. The data was analyzed and hypotheses were tested with structural equation modeling (SEM). Our results shed some lights on social commerce literature. The findings show that there are significant effect of social commerce constructs on social support, namely the emotional and informational support, and in turn, on trust- building.  相似文献

There is a growing expectation that schoolteachers should not only act as educators by delivering the national curriculum, but also be more involved as tier one mental health professionals. In this role they are expected to assume some responsibility in the early identification of children's mental health problems and to refer these children for appropriate support as required [NHS Health Advisory Service. In this paper, we examine teachers’ experiences in light of these expectations and in the context of greater inclusion. We undertook in-depth interviews, to explore teachers’ views on competency and training in mental health management. Our findings indicate a widespread perception that teachers feel inadequately prepared to manage pupils with mental health needs. The findings are discussed with reference to the changing role of the teacher, current education policy and teacher training.  相似文献

The relationships among four components of emotional intelligence (emotional appraisal, positive regulation, empathic sensitivity, and positive utilization) and three components of teacher burnout (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment) were investigated in a sample of 167 Chinese secondary school teachers in Hong Kong. One hypothesized and five competing models were constructed and tested using structural equation modeling procedures. The hypothesized model provided an adequate and moderately good fit, suggesting that emotional exhaustion, influenced by emotional appraisal and positive regulation, was causally prior to depersonalization and personal accomplishment, but personal accomplishment could develop relatively independently from the burnout components through the influence of positive utilization of emotions. Implications of the findings on the articulation of components of emotional intelligence and burnout for preventive intervention efforts to combat burnout are discussed.  相似文献

BackgroundAdolescent victims of sexual assault and exploitation suffer significant mental health distress including PTSD, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and attempts.ObjectiveThis longitudinal observational study investigated the Runaway Intervention Program's influence on trauma responses at 3, 6, and 12 months for adolescents who have run away at least once and have been sexually assaulted or exploited.ParticipantsRunaways (n = 362) received nurse practitioner (NP) home and community visits, intensive case management, and optional empowerment groups.SettingAn urban Midwestern city's hospital-based Children's Advocacy Center.MethodsTrauma responses were measured by the UCLA PTSD-RI index, past 30 days emotional distress scale, and self-harm, suicidal ideation, and suicide attempt questions. Repeated Measures ANOVA assessed trauma response changes over time. Growth curve analyses using intervention doses determined which aspects of the intervention predicted change.ResultsFrom program entry to 3 and 6 months, mean values decreased significantly for emotional distress (−0.67, −.91) self-harm (−.30, −.55), suicidal ideation (−.45, −.57), suicide attempts (−.58, −.61), and trauma symptoms (−11.8, −16.2, all p < .001) all maintained at 12 months. In growth curve models, NP visits independently predicted declines in emotional distress (−.038), self-injury (−.020), suicidal ideation (−.025) and attempts (−.032), while empowerment groups predicted trauma symptoms (−.525) and all others except suicide attempts.ConclusionsThe program, especially NP community visits and empowerment group elements, decreased trauma responses in runaway youth with a history of sexual assault. Given high rates of PTSD and emotional distress among runaways, the Runaway Intervention Program offers promise for improving mental health outcomes.  相似文献

Background: Violence against children (VAC) is a widespread, global issue with far-reaching social and economic consequences. In recent years, VAC has received substantial international attention, resulting in government initiatives to reduce VAC, in part, by strengthening data collection and information systems.Objective: This scoping review was undertaken to map survey methodologies for VAC measurement in Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries and to identify key considerations for developing both methodologically sound and culturally appropriate VAC surveys in Indonesia and similar contexts.Methods: The authors conducted manual and automated searches in English and Bahasa Indonesia through PubMed, global databases, and websites, and consulted with partners from the government of Indonesia and the child protection field to identify surveys conducted from 2006 to 2016 in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. The search identified 275 records, of which 11 met all inclusion criteria.Results: The 11 surveys utilized a wide range of methodologies and employed inconsistent definitions, different age ranges for respondents, and different combinations of self-administered and face-to-face modes. A majority of the studies utilized household-based sampling, did not include a qualitative component, and used a tablet for data collection.Conclusion: In developing VAC surveys, researchers should consider which groups of children are excluded from the sampling frame; how qualitative data can be used to strengthen the validity of survey results; how to maximize privacy in face-to-face interviews; and whether self-administered modes are feasible and acceptable. Researchers should also ensure that the survey and research protocol undergo rigorous ethical review.  相似文献
