This longitudinal study aimed at examining the relationship between children's task persistence, mothers' academic help, and the development of children’s literacy skills (reading and spelling) at the beginning of primary school. The participants were 870 children, 682 mothers, and 53 class teachers. Data were collected three times – at the beginning and the end of Grade 1 and at the end of Grade 2. Better literacy skills predicted higher persistence in completing school tasks and, correspondingly, higher persistence was related to better subsequent skills. Also, lower task persistence at the end of Grade 1 corresponded to more frequent academic help from mothers in Grade 2. Moreover, children’s literacy skills predicted mother’s later academic help via task persistence: the lower the children’s literacy skills were, the less task persistence children exhibited, and the more mothers engaged in academic help later on.  相似文献

Abstract

This article presents research on persistence among at-risk students using network analysis following multiple linear regression (MLR). Data on a population of enrolled undergraduate students at an urban-serving university over several years (P?=?35,239) is tested using multiple linear regression. Variables interacting at different dimensions of the model are analyzed using IBM SPSS Neural Networks (2017) and Cytoscape (2018) to show network linkages. While variables may not be significant in MLR models where anomalies are ruled out, network analysis takes these anomalies into account and reveals complex layers of interactions between and among variables. Findings show that loans of any kind contribute to attrition while financial aid of any kind contributes to persistence and offsets attrition from loans.  相似文献

Two related studies addressed college students' persistence and progress in psychotherapy. In Study 1, using emotional health variables assessed at intake, students who persisted in counseling and demonstrated clinical improvement were compared with those who either did not return for their first session or who did return but stopped before improvement. Findings showed that those counseling completers, compared with the other two groups, reported at intake significantly higher levels of confidence that therapy will help, degree of well-being, and levels of life functioning. Study 2, focusing on students who received at least eight counseling sessions, found improvement on variables reflecting distress and life functioning, with students who rated themselves highly distressed at intake reporting the most benefit. The findings suggest approaches to improve realistic expectations for and engagement in counseling.  相似文献

Terms such as retention and persistence reflect the interests of different parties. Much of the empirical and theoretical literature deals with retention from a ‘supply‐side’ perspective. This article has three main sections. The first consists of a summary of recent empirical findings from surveys of students who left their on‐campus programmes prematurely. The second section, which discusses a range of theoretical formulations, begins to shift the thrust of the article from on‐campus programmes towards open and distance learning. The third considers some implications for persistence in open and distance learning that follow from the preceding two main sections. 本文旨在研究企业技术创新的持续性对其绩效的影响。在回顾相关理论的基础上,提出了关于创新持续性对企业绩效的影响和多元化强度对二者之间关系调节效应的基本假设,并利用201家中国制造业上市公司2006-2014年的面板数据进行实证检验。研究结果表明:(1)中国企业更重视挖掘型持续技术创新;(2)创新持续性与企业绩效之间呈现倒U型关系,二者之间的曲线关系在企业具备较高多元化强度时更加明显;(3)创新投入的持续性对创新产出的持续性有正向影响,但二者的协同对企业绩效的影响并不显著。  相似文献

保持创新持续性依赖于创新资金的长期投入。实体企业金融投资行为日益活跃,是否与其创新能力投资相背离?本文基于2009—2016年中国A股非金融上市公司动态面板数据,依据“动机—行为—经济后果”逻辑,建立异质性配置动机下的计量模型,采用系统GMM方法实证检验企业金融化对创新持续性的影响。研究发现:总体来看,企业金融化显著抑制了创新持续性;受融资约束更强的企业,金融化对其创新持续性的影响系数为正但不显著,即未发现储蓄动机下的促进效应;套利动机更强的企业,其创新持续性受金融化投资增加的制约作用更大。以上结果表明,企业更多是出于套利动机而非储蓄动机配置金融资产,由此削弱了企业“研发创新—生产率—利润”的动力,不利于企业创新持续性的提升。进一步研究发现,企业金融化套利动机与中国市场发展不成熟相关,提高市场化程度有助于抑制企业金融化的不利后果。研究结论有助于政府和企业进一步认识金融化问题的制度成因及后果,进而有针对性地提出防范企业金融化的对策。  相似文献
