There is a growing interest in policy research on student completion and non-continuation and bodies such as the European Commission and OECD are focusing on the subject. There is also increasing national interest in the issue in many countries and they are looking to each other for input on effective policies. However, there are significant social, economic and educational differences between national systems across Europe, making this a very challenging project. The aim of this article is to study challenges and complexities in researching student non-completion of higher educqtion programmes in Europe. We use the case of two contrasting countries — England and Norway — to help to identify some of the differences, challenges and complexities that are relevant when creating an approach for analysis that can be used more widely to explore ‘non-completion’ across different countries in Europe and beyond.  相似文献

After completing the Multidimensional Work-Ethic Profile (MWEP), 98 college students were given a 20-problem math computation assignment and instructed to stop working on the assignment after completing 10 problems. Next, they were allowed to choose to finish either the partially completed assignment that had 10 problems remaining or a new assignment that contained 9 matched problems and therefore required 10% less effort to complete. Significantly more students chose the new, lower-effort assignment. Logistic regression showed that MWEP scores were significantly related to choice, with Leisure being the most significant factor. These results supported earlier research on the partial-assignment completion effect, effort, and choice and extended this research by showing that the MWEP could account for a significant amount of assignment choice variance. The discussion focuses on the validity of the MWEP, theoretical implications related to work ethic, assignment completion, and future educational research.  相似文献

运用文献研究法、数理统计法对2005年辽宁省竞技武术套路锦标赛部分参赛项目的难度选择与完成情况进行研究。结果表明,在难度选择方面,男运动员倾向于A、B级动作难度、B级连接难度,女运动员倾向于A级动作难度,A、B级连接难度;在难度完成方面,男运动员的A、B级动作难度、A级连接难度完成较好,女运动员的A级动作难度、A级连接难度完成较好。建议在难度申报时,不宜采取保守策略或存在侥幸心理,而应选择适宜运动员完成的难度数量或级别。  相似文献

Student retention in higher education might be prioritised by funding authorities and universities but robust measurement of non‐completion is elusive. This investigation explores untapped data sources to enrich understanding of non‐completion. The analysis features the main undergraduate course in a part of a large UK university with retention concerns. Three data sources were explored; Registry, course administration and electronic information systems. Discrepancies emerged in data from them, with students' electronic engagement data revealing withdrawal patterns not evident in the other sources. The departures profile revealed by the information systems data is used to conjecture association between type of departure and stage of departure drawing on time‐based retention models. The analysis also draws on material from focus groups of course administrators and tutors. The results demonstrate a new way of pinpointing and quantifying non‐completion over time, electronic footprint analysis, which provides an additional basis for formulating and monitoring retention strategies. While not explaining why individuals withdraw, they reveal more about when they appear more likely to do so. Using data already captured they constitute feasible means of improving retention.  相似文献

甲酸盐盐水完井液以其低腐蚀、保护储层等特性受到人们的青睐,其中一个重要原因是它具有固有的弱碱性。甲酸盐盐水完井液在酸性气田应用时,酸性气体(CO2和H2S)的侵入会降低体系pH值,从而增大腐蚀速率、加快甲酸盐的分解。本文提出用pH缓冲剂来保持完井液pH值的恒定,并推荐K2CO3-KHCO3组合。该组合能够维持pH值的稳定、抑制甲酸盐的分解并加速FeCO3腐蚀保护膜的形成。最后确定K2CO3加量为1.4%.KHCO3为1%.并提出需要维护的情况。  相似文献

计算企业计划利润完成情况是加强企业管理、实现目标管理、评价工作业绩的重要手段。一般情况下,计划利润完成率的计算方法是直接用利润完成数除以利润计划数。但是,由于企业的发展是一个长期的过程,企业在一定时期、一定阶段利润为负值是一种正常现象。计划利润为负数是现实存在的客观问题。计算计划利润是负值时的计划完成率,不能简单采用利润完成数除以利润计划数的方法。结合金商贸易集团股份公司的内部考核指标完成情况,探讨计划利润为负值情况下,计划利润完成率计算的理论依据和实际应用。  相似文献

Recent research has highlighted the various benefits of postgraduate peer support, including timely degree completion. This article describes and considers an initiative that sought to manufacture postgraduate peer-support groups and communities at a New Zealand university. It intends to further understanding of this area and, in particular, to discuss positive characteristics of postgraduate peer groups and the role of the institution in supporting them. Drawing on interviews with 12 postgraduate peer leaders, key findings include: the possibility of manufacturing peer-support groups, with a legitimising function coming from overt institutional support; that peer groups can be made up of students from across a wide range of postgraduate courses and disciplines; that, given an open mandate from the institution, peer leaders can contribute to the challenge of creating a positive research community; and that a collaborative institution-wide approach to postgraduate support provision is achievable.  相似文献

This study examined the relationship between students’ perceptions of teacher–student interaction and academic performance at an asynchronous, self-paced, statewide virtual high school. Academic performance was measured by grade awarded and course completion. There were 2269 students who responded to an 18-item survey designed to measure student perceptions on the quality and frequency of teacher–student interaction. Quality of interaction was subdivided into three constructs representing feedback, procedural, and social interaction. A confirmatory factor analysis helped to establish the fit of the statistical model for teacher–student interaction. Hierarchical logistical regression indicates that an increase in the quality and frequency of interaction resulted in an increased likelihood of course completion but had minimal influence on grade awarded. The estimated effect for quality and frequency composite items on completion was .83 and .56 respectively. Low practical significance of student–teacher interaction on grade awarded may be the result of mastery-based teaching approaches that skew grades for the completers toward the high end.  相似文献
