Understanding Greek Primary School Children's Comprehension of Sun Exposure

The purpose of this study was to assess Greek primary (1st to 6th grade) school children's understanding of sun exposure during summer vacation. Our results show that children know the damaging effects of long time exposure and the precautions that should be taken during sun bathing (sun glasses, hat, umbrella, sunscreen, etc). Nevertheless, they do not seem to avoid being exposed between 12.00 A.M. and 15.00 P.M., which is the most dangerous time. The socioeconomic status of father has no effect on the attitude of children towards taking protection measures when exposed to the sun, however, the educational status of the mother appears to influence children's reported knowledge and behaviour. Place of residence (urban or rural areas) and gender does not influence their knowledge on the sun's damaging effects and the precautions they should take. Finally, as children grow older they seem to gradually reduce the protective measures they take.  相似文献

实验设计了人群活动与室内污染状况调查，其内容包括：被调查者家庭生活环境、家庭成员个人活动、个人嗜好；工作环境情况及被调查者本人的生活、工作和活动环境对健康影响的主观评价等．结果表明，城市居民一天在室内环境度过的时间约占全天时间的８４％以上．同时参考国内外室内／外空气污染研究结果，选取４种主要空气污染物——一氧化碳（ＣＯ）、甲醛（ＨＣＨＯ）、可吸入性颗粒物（ＩＲ）和苯并［ａ］芘（Ｂａｐ）等进行了现场测定．给出不同微环境，即家庭室内环境，非家庭室内环境、封闭交通工具内、室外交通环境、其它室外环境中４种典型污染物的人体暴露量估计值．实验表明，４种空气污染物在家庭室内环境中的人体暴露量分别为：７１．０％，６０．３％，６９．４％，７４．０％．由此可以看出，在大气污染对人体健康影响的研究中，室内环境的影响不容忽视．  相似文献   

Examining environmental learning experiences at an earth education summer camp

Many barriers restrict children’s access to nature resulting in negative consequences, including a lack of opportunities to learn and engage with the natural environment. Fortunately, environmental education programs offer participants an opportunity to counteract these challenges. While the benefits of environmental education as measured by pre-determined outcomes are well documented, research focused on participants’ perceptions and preferences related to their environmental learning experiences continues to be under-represented in the literature. Using a pre-/post-test survey approach, this study aimed to explore how an earth education summer camp, Sunship Earth ^TM, contributed to participants environmental learning experiences. Results suggest that Sunship Earth ^TM provides children with various EL opportunities that help to increase their understanding of some ecological concepts. Results also suggest that this learning experience may have helped to broaden participants’ understanding of environmental issues and actions, as well as enhance feelings of care, interest, and responsibility towards the environment.  相似文献

College in the media: the relationship between repeated exposure and college expectations

Media consumption can influence viewer perceptions and attitudes. Recent research on media’s effect on college students has failed to address gender differences. Using Mere Repeated Exposure Theory (traditionally used in marketing research), this study aims to answer three research questions regarding college media consumption and college perceptions: What types of fictional college media do college students consume? How does college media consumption differ by gender? How does fictional college media consumption relate to perceived college expectations? Results suggest that college students who consume high amounts of fictional college media are more likely to have positive attitudes towards partying and socializing in college. High consumers of college media, however, do not believe that college media influences their college perceptions. Men are more likely to socialize in college and are more aware than women that college media influences their college perceptions. Women are more likely to believe that college is difficult regardless of media consumption.  相似文献

Free radical generation and lipid peroxidation among the dry cell industry workers exposed to carbon

A total of 75 healthy male dry cell industry workers exposed to carbon for 5, 8 and 10 years were compared with 48 controls matched for age and economic status with respect to free radical generation, lipid peroxidation and antioxidant levels. Lymphocytes were seperated from the whole blood and used for estimation of free radicals and antioxidants. Plasma lipid peroxidation products were estimated in the form of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances. Significant increase in free radical generation and lipid peroxidation products were observed in carbon exposed population than controls, and the increase was found to be significant with increase in the period of exposure. The levels of antioxidants i.e., superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase were found to decrease with the increase in exposure to carbon in industrial workers. These results suggest that exposure to carbon augments free radical generation, lipid peroxidation and promotes decline in antioxidant enzymes.  相似文献
