This article explores the methodological challenges and possibilities of writing a cultural history of broadcasting in French colonial Algeria during the tumultuous decades between the two world wars. In a diverse, multi-ethnic colonial society, how can historians and media scholars evaluate audience reception? What meanings did radio broadcasting acquire in the colonial context? To answer these questions, this article considers the controversies surrounding two culturally hybrid broadcasts produced by Radio-Algiers during the 1930s. A careful examination of the remaining historical record concerning these broadcasts, from newspaper accounts to archival sources, exposes the cultural fluidity that typified everyday colonial life and reveals how radio broadcasting politicized music and oral language in novel ways. Broadcasting—as a purely sonic medium—challenged the classificatory mechanisms of the French colonial state and the racial and ethnic boundaries that undergirded colonial society. In consequence, historical memories of Radio-Algiers and its role during the waning years of the French empire deny the sonic cultural hybridity that flourished over the interwar airwaves.  相似文献

This paper analyses the audience reception of the Malaysian reality television programme Akademi Fantasia (AF), which first aired in 2003 and completed its ninth season in 2011. AF has been an influential pioneer in the national television industry, inaugurating the trend of local reality shows and weathering intense competition from similar shows to remain at the top of the ratings chart over the last decade. Based on the Mexican talent search show, La Academia, Malaysia's AF is a unique hybrid blend of an Idol-style talent contest and Big Brother observational spectacle. The article draws on primary audience research to investigate the ways in which Malay audiences interpret the potentially incommensurable cultural meanings generated within the context of a localised version of a global television format. Chua's concept of ‘identification and distancing’ is employed as a framework to analyse the complex ways in which perceived Malay ‘cultural norms’ assume primacy as interpretative lenses for audience evaluations of the show and measures of its local difference from similar global cultural products. The research also reveals how these cultural norms are themselves being negotiated by the audience as part of the everyday experience of inhabiting coexisting local and global popular cultural spaces. The analysis focuses on audience understandings and pleasure in the programme in relation to fashion and taste; the behaviour of the official judges; voyeurism and conflict in ‘backstage’ coverage; and emotional intimacy onstage in the public performance component of the programme.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Since 2002, library faculty at the Indiana University School of Medicine have taught third-year medical students how to retrieve the best evidence from MEDLINE to address their clinical questions. In preparation for their Neurology, Medicine, and Psychiatry clerkships, students attended a review of evidence-based medicine principles and techniques for searching the literature. The session was team-taught by two faculty members, one from the Internal Medicine department and the other from the Library. The librarian reviewed important MEDLINE principles for constructing a good subject search and applying appropriate evidence-based filters. During the clerkships, students were asked to generate clinical questions arising from their patient encounters, searched MEDLINE for the best evidence, critiqued the results, and then applied them back to their patients' care. Library faculty provided individualized feedback on the student searches. A follow-up session two months later reinforced MEDLINE principles, used student searches as examples, and extended the discussion to other evidence-based, point-of-care resources. To add to the interactivity of the follow-up sessions, librarians used an audience response system to measure students' understanding of literature retrieval techniques and to gauge student preferences for information seeking on clinical topics. Overall, the sessions have been well-received by the students.  相似文献

The semiotic assumption that language is a system of symbols, signals, or signs minimally entails a commitment to the position that there are two worlds, one linguistic and the ether non‐linguistic, and that they are related by some sort of representation. This essay challenges this view insofar as it purports to account for all language functions. It offers a complementary idea that emerges from the writings of Heidegger, Gadamer, and Buber: that language in spoken conversation is often constitutive, not merely instrumental and representional.  相似文献

[目的/意义] 移动互联网时代谣言传播模式发生了巨大的变化,一方面谣言的扩散已不再局限于孤立的线下人际关系网络或线上互联网,谣言在耦合网络之间的传播变得更加普遍。另一方面,以往通过概率方式研究谣言的传播存在很大的不准确性,受众的个体特征差异对谣言的传播起到了更重要的作用。本文针对上述现象进行了研究。[方法/过程] 以受众的年龄作为两种网络的耦合依据,提出基于受众年龄的新型谣言传播的耦合社交网络(ASCN)。从受众的认知能力、匿名程度、权威性等基本特征,以及受众的从众心理、记忆效应、好友的影响作用等心理特征方面对受众进行画像,构建多维度函数实现基于受众画像的谣言传播模型。[结果/结论] 基于ASCN对本文提出的模型进行模拟仿真。结果表明,ACSN能够真实地反应出当前网络环境下谣言传播呈现出的"线下引起线上共鸣"、"线上溢散线下"的特征;受众的基本特征和心理特征能够对谣言传播产生巨大的影响,能更好地反映社交网络中谣言的传播规律。  相似文献

2008年北京奥运会虽已经圆满结束,但有关赛场观众的“人本”管理却是近期研究的热点。时类型复杂多变的观众进行“人本化”管理既是构建和谐社会的需要,也是我国体育事业健康发展的必然要求。对此,研究认为可通过以下几方面进行努力:加强相关知识的宣传,提高群众的认识和学习水平;建立健全法律机制,加强执法力度用以维护“以人为本”理念的落实;对管理者进行业务培训,真正做到人民利益至上;对赛场观众的管理要区别对待,因人而异;满足观众的舍理需求,促进观众的全面发展。  相似文献

健美健身运动人群可分为非受众、准受众和受众几种类型。其中,健美健身受众又分为健身受众、健美受众和竞技选手受众几种水平。不同类型、不同水平的健美健身受众体现着不同的目标追求和动机水平。基于此,文章提出实现健美健身参与人群由较低目标向较高目标水平递进,或促使受众角色意识和角色定位正向性转型以提升运动目标层次与效果的策略和举措。  相似文献

随着媒介竞争日趋加剧,我国大众传媒对受众认识陷入多个误区:一是对受众层次多样性的认识单一化,低估受众,导致新闻媒介定位低俗;二是缺乏对单个受众个体需求多样性的认识,只求娱乐功能的满足;三是一味消极、被动迎合受众需要而缺乏积极、主动引导。对此,我们必须采取相应的解决办法,使传媒获得最佳的社会效益和经济效益。  相似文献
