ABSTRACT In the summer of 1998, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill conducted a pilot project for electronic reserves using Contec North America's ‘C3’ e-reserve system. This paper discusses how the pilot project was implemented, including equipment required for the system, types of materials placed on reserve, and problems encountered and solved. The proposal served as the blueprint for planning as well as gaining the support of the library administration and library staff by discussing goals, scope, intellectual property management, budget, and timetable. ABSTRACT The Arizona State University Libraries Electronic Reserve system provides ASU students easy online access to required course reading. Journal articles, tests, syllabi and class notes are digitized and available on any computer with Internet access. Students no longer need to make a trip to the library but can now read, download or print these items at their convenience. The documents are easily located through a direct link in the libraries' online catalog and retrievable with “two clicks of a mouse.” This system was designed by the staff of the university's library. While outside vendors offered programs ranging in price from $47,000 to $70,000, less than $400 was spent on software. With over 750 files for 169 courses digitized, electronic reserve is popular, averaging 11,000 “hits” a month. 相似文献

ABSTRACT A case study of a large urban academic library with an established electronic reserve system and copyright management database was attempted in order to analyze restrictions in publishers' electronic reserve copyright policies. The researcher proposed that publishers' electronic reserve copyright policies and the treatment of copyright permission requests restrict what and how much can be made available to students on an electronic reserve system. Background research on fair use, copyright laws, and library and publisher policies and positions on electronic reserve copyright issues is presented. The research methodology is outlined and analysis tools are explained. The results of the study and suggestions for future research are discussed. ABSTRACT The digitization of library materials has had a tremendous impact on libraries. By using the Internet, readers can access digital library materials from any place in the world. The BMCC Library started several programs to provide more digital materials to its patrons in the forms of electronic books, periodicals, full-text materials, and webpage links to other databases. A test program began in spring 2002 for course reserves, and electronic archiving was about to start in fall 2001.
