As the popularity and importance of project management increase, so does the need for well‐prepared project managers. This article discusses our experiences using a project management simulation in undergraduate and MBA classes to help students better grasp the complexity of project management. This approach gives students hands‐on experience with many facets in the project management life cycle and provides them with feedback on their performance as project managers. The Approaches and Study Skills Inventory for Students (ASSIST) were administered to 573 under-graduate students in order to analyse a Norwegian version of this inventory. To cross-validate the factor structure, the subjects were divided into two equal samples. Principal axis factor analysis of sample 1 reproduced the three main factors of deep, surface and strategic approaches to learning. However, two of the subscales failed to load appropriately on the 'strategic approach'. When omitting these subscales, the principle of simple structure was better supported by the results. A subsequent CFA with comparison of samples 1 and 2 supported the existence of the expected three-factor model. It is concluded that this Norwegian version of ASSIST is valuable as a research tool for the assessment of approaches to learning among Norwegian students, but that caution should be taken with respect to the interpretation of particular subscales and possible sample effects. 相似文献

Four validation studies of different versions of the Approaches to Studying Inventory (ASI) were performed by means of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Six samples of undergraduate students participated (N = 4,038), drawn from different bachelor programs in selected university college departments. The results gave limited support to the 18‐item ASI originally promoted by Gibbs et al. in 1988, whereas a modified version of the 32‐item edition showed acceptable psychometric properties, as did two shortened versions of the Approaches and Study Skill Inventory for Students (ASSIST). A restructured “quick‐and‐easy” 18‐item ASI emerged as reasonably valid and robust, and can be recommended as a research instrument and a practical evaluation tool in higher education. Considerations related to shortening the ASI are also discussed. 相似文献
