The performance of work groups and in particular geographically distributed ones is negatively affected by communication issues and task dependencies.Contemporary science suggests social link optimization apart from improving the technical aspects to address these issues. In our study, we focus on distributed coordination and project performance. Social network structure and coordination performance variables are described by our framework with regards to distributed coordination during bug fixing process. Based on the model and the literature reviewed, we propose two propositions—(i) the level of interconnectedness has a negative relation with coordination performance; and (ii) centrality social network measures have positive relation with coordination performance variables. We use a sample of 415 Open Source Projects hosted on SourceForge.net. The results suggest that both propositions are correct. Furthermore, in the methods section implementation of an automated process is introduced to build graph definitions in adjacency matrix or NCOL format from thousands of forum threads. We describe the implementation of a novel method to plot sociograms in batch from hundreds of graph definitions automatically and calculate network centrality and density measures for all of them at the same time. Finally, we suggest the implications of this study to software development project management research.  相似文献

Bibliometric data indexed through the Institute for Scientific Information were analyzed for 45 communication journals. Several measures were included to identify the most widely cited journals in the field, including (a) journal impact factor, (b) five-year journal impact, (c) article influence, and (d) journal relatedness. Results serve to expand on findings by Feeley (2008 Feeley , T. H. ( 2008 ). A bibliometric analysis of communication journals from 2002 to 2005 . Human Communication Research , 34 , 505520 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) with respect to overall and within-field influence of communication journals whose analysis covered 2002 through 2005 and 19 journals. Results indicate stability in journal impact ratings over time and several journals (e.g., Communication Research, Human Communication Research, Journal of Communication, Communication Monographs, and Communication Theory) are highly central in the communication journal citation network.  相似文献

Previous research in the association between network centrality and job satisfaction has not established a consistent relationship between the two. Considering a specific type of network and multiple measures of centrality may clarify this relationship. Thus, the current study examined the association between various types of centrality in workplace friendship networks and job satisfaction in a Korean construction company. Friendship network centrality measured as closeness was positively related to job satisfaction. However, friendship centrality measured as betweenness and degree was not related to job satisfaction. The results suggest that distinguishing among measures of centrality and network type is vital for future research.  相似文献

本文运用社会网络理论,以中国高新技术园区中187家企业为样本,分析不同类型的网络联结关系、网络的结构特征以及它们间的交互作用,如何影响企业技术创新能力。研究发现,在企业集群中,企业在供应链网络内的位置中心性对其技术创新能力有正向影响,而企业在连锁董事网络和相互持股关系网络内的位置中心性正向调节纵向供应链网络中心性与技术创新能力的关系。同时,这两类网络的网络密度也对供应链网络与企业技术创新能力的关系起到调节作用。  相似文献

Predicting Employee Turnover from Friendship Networks   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Employees (n=40) at a fast-food restaurant were surveyed about characteristics of their position and their level of satisfaction. Employees were then asked to report with whom they regularly communicated inside and outside the workplace and to indicate how close they were to employees with whom they were linked. Employee turnover was measured after three months had elapsed. A goal of the research was to replicate a model of employee turnover that predicts employees more central in their social network to be less likely to leave, and to test a social support explanation of the centrality model. The results indicated that employees who reported a greater number of out-degree links with friends were less likely to leave. The number of in-degree links with friends did not significantly predict turnover, and neither did network links with peers. Friendship prestige, measured by the number of in-degree links, was strongly correlated with relational closeness and amount of time spent with employees outside the workplace.  相似文献

现有学术评价方法体系存在着许多的不足之处一直被人们所诟病,如,同行评议的主观性、引文评价的自引、马太效应、引用偏见、引用曲解等等。从社会网络的视角,基于合著网络的中心度指标提出了一种新的学术人才评价方法,这种方法一定程度上弥补了传统评价方法的不足,为学术人才评价方法体系提供了新的视角。最后,我们提出了该方法的不足之处和改善方向,将基于合著网络的学术人才评价方法与传统的发文、引文评价方法结合起来,可以得到更为全面和客观的评价结果。  相似文献
