Social and dimensional comparisons in math and verbal test anxiety: Within- and cross-domain relations with achievement and the mediating role of academic self-concept

The present study builds on two strands of research: (1) the recently established generalized internal/external frame of reference (GI/E) model assuming social (comparing one’s achievement in one domain with the achievement of one’s peers in the same domain) and dimensional (comparing one’s achievement in one domain with one’s achievement in another domain) comparison processes in the formation of motivational constructs and self-perceptions, and (2) research on domain-specific facets of test anxiety. Using a sample of 5135 German seventh grade students, it is tested whether and how both comparison processes are involved in the formation of domain-specific facets of test anxiety when considering both the emotionality and worry components of test anxiety, and whether the relation between achievement and test anxiety is mediated through academic self-concept. When applying the GI/E model to test anxiety, the results showed negative relations between achievement and test anxiety within math and verbal (German) domains, but partially positive relations across domains. This pattern of relations emerged for both the worry and emotionality components while stronger achievement relations were found for worry. These findings indicate that dimensional achievement comparison processes operate in the formation of domain-specific test anxiety. Domain-specific academic self-concepts were found to mediate the relations between achievement and test anxiety within and across domains, the mediation being stronger for worry than for emotionality as an outcome. Boys and girls did not differ regarding direct and indirect relations among constructs. Implications for research on dimensional comparison processes and test anxiety are discussed.  相似文献

Dynamic Stackelberg games under open-loop complete information

Stackelberg games, which play extremely important roles in such fields as economics, management, politics and behavioral sciences, can be modelled as a bilevel optimization problem. There exist extensive literatures about static bilevel optimization problems. However, the studies on dynamic bilevel optimization problems are rather scarce in spite of the importance in explaining and predicting some phenomena rationally. In this paper, discrete time dynamic Stackelberg games with open loop complete state are revisited. An example, which comes from law field, is presented as an open-loop Stackelberg game to illuminate the rangy application of game theory. A property based on Bellman's equation is proposed without any restriction about inner point solution for open-loop Stackelberg games in this work. Moreover, we point out that open-loop Stackelberg games perform no better than both feedback and closed-loop dynamic Stackelberg games with complete information, which seems quite valuable to explain some social and economic phenomena.  相似文献

理学与国学运动有着密切关系,20世纪前期的国学运动中存在着明显的国粹派和新潮派两大派。在许多国粹学者看来,儒学是国粹,而宋代兴起的新儒学—理学才是国粹的核心。新潮派国学家将宋明理学作为研究对象,将宋明理学典籍作为国学基础之一,而不是尊之为"国粹",这是新潮派和国粹派的分歧所在。新潮派国学家知道对理学的批判并非他们的任务,他们的任务是从纯学术的观点出发,采用新的科学方法,以解决理学的某些困难的学术问题。国学家们对理学基本事实的考证能促进理学研究的进一步发展。  相似文献

Can districts keep good teachers in the schools that need them most?

This study investigates how school demographics and their interactions with policies affect the mobility behaviors of public school teachers with various human capital characteristics. Using data from North Carolina from 1995 to 2006, it finds that teachers’ career stage and human capital investments dominate their decisions to leave public school teaching and school demographic characteristics play a dominant role in intra-system sorting. Schools serving at-risk children struggle to attract and retain teachers with desirable observable characteristics. We find evidence to suggest that across-the-board school-based pay-for-performance policies have small but significant associations with mobility decisions and appear to exacerbate inequities in the distribution of teacher qualifications.  相似文献   

College selectivity and young adult health behaviors

Large literatures have shown important links between the quantity of completed education and health outcomes on one hand and the quality or selectivity of schooling on a host of adult outcomes, such as wages, on the other hand. However, little research attempts to produce evidence of the link between school quality and health. The paper presents the first evidence in the literature on the potential short and intermediate term effects of attending a selective college on health behaviors during and following college attendance. Using a variety of empirical methods, this paper shows strong evidence that college selectivity reduces tobacco and marijuana use but has small and possibly positive effects on binge drinking. The effects on weight behaviors are suggestive of reduced weight, potentially through diet, but not exercise change.  相似文献
