This paper examines students' perceptions of their classroom environment and the possible effect of these perceptions on math and reading achievement. Additionally, the paper investigates the significance of gender and grade level on students' perceptions of the classroom environment.
Participants were elementary school students in a large urban school district in the western part of the US. Data collected were based on test scores on the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) and scores on the My Classroom Inventory (MCI) to measure perceptions. Correlation analyses and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) procedures were used to analyse the data. The results indicated that the perceptions of the general classroom environment were significantly related to math and reading achievement, although this was not the case for the individual dimensions of the classroom environment. Gender had no statistically significant association with the students' perceptions of the classroom environment, whereas the grade level had a statistically significant relationship with the perceptions. 相似文献
This paper reports an experimental study involving the use of cooperative learning in a social studies classroom. The outcome variables discussed in the paper are pupil self-esteem and classroom climate. Over the period of the study, cooperative learning did not significantly improve the self-esteem of the pupils. However, pupils in the experimental group who were taught through the cooperative learning approach perceived classwork to be less difficult than the control pupils who worked individually. The control pupils also reported a decline in satisfaction with classwork and perceived more friction in their class. Interviews with the teacher and pupils showed favourable attitudes toward cooperative learning. 相似文献
The study compares overexcitability scores of Turkish 10th graders who are grouped in terms of their intellectual abilities, motivation, creativity and leadership as well as gender. 711 students who were administered Raven Advanced Progressive Matrices Test (APM) were divided into three intellectual ability categories. From this pool, 105 subjects were selected as the sample of the study. Teacher Observation and Evaluation Form (TOEF) was used for categorizing students in terms of motivation, creativity and leadership. On the other hand, Overexcitability Questionnaire (OEQ) was administered to the sample for assessing their overexcitabilities. According to the findings of the study, overexcitability scores of highly intelligent, motivated, creative and leader students in some overexcitability areas are significantly greater than those of their lower counterparts. The results of the study of 12 cases in which a social worker had to work with the family at home is the subject of this paper. The author observes that child abuse and neglect is linked with highly variable psychosocial situations. The main problems may be marital conflict, disturbed emotional ties, psychosis. A unique guideline type of policy cannot be applied to such a variety of circumstances. The second observation is that the intervention of the social workers is much more effective when supported by a mandate from the protective authorities. That is if the social worker has the ability to request placement for the maltreated child, his action is more likely to be successful. The author concludes that the efficacy of the social worker's intervention depends both on the kind of problems which the family is facing as well as the technical means at the disposal of the social worker. 相似文献
Most of the examples of New Ink Art in public collections in Hong Kong are generally in the form of traditional ink paintings, yet each of them have different intention from the artist, with abstract notions to deliver. They always present unexpected challenges in the course of conservation and preservation, ranging from ethical, legal, technological, technical, to time-based medium, and display issues. This paper draws the attention of museum workers and conservators to the preservation issues of New Ink Art by using two works by two internationally-renowned artists. It aims to resolve the common issues around their artworks by comparing with and making references to different solutions and approaches currently adopted in other countries, like the United States, Canada, and Europe. It clarifies the ethical concepts involved, and brings us new insight to cope with ever-changing confrontations and problems while conserving, preserving, and displaying New Ink Art. 相似文献
Blended learning (BL) is still in its infancy in the United Arab Emirates, but is gaining growing attention and acceptance. The particular university under investigation offers its nationally accredited graduate programs with a BL format that makes use of synchronous virtual classrooms, asynchronous self-study, and face-to-face sessions. The current qualitative research study investigates students' perceptions about their experience with the BL model within their relatively conservative cultural context. In addition, the project aimed at gauging their suggestions for course design considerations that would meet their needs as adult learners and enhance their learning experience. Twenty-one graduate students participated in the study, with findings indicating an overall positive perception about the BL experience with a strong positive impact on female empowerment. The most salient themes for successful instructional strategies indicated the importance of student-centered practices, particularly collaborative projects and student-led activities. 相似文献
