“I’m a Library Hugger!”: Public Libraries as Valued Community Assets

Public library value is often ascertained by outlining the economic, social, and cultural benefits public libraries generate for the greater community. While researchers have focused on the concepts of social capital, civic engagement, and the role of libraries in promoting democracy, fewer studies have explored the public’s perceptions of libraries in an effort to determine library value. Furthermore, library nonusers are rarely included in these studies. In Alberta, Canada, 1,201 Albertans from across the province, including both urban and rural areas, were asked a series of questions about their perceptions of public libraries and library use. Findings reveal characteristics of library users and nonusers, what services and resources are used most often at public libraries, what value the public places on public libraries, and the role that libraries play in supporting communities.  相似文献

高校读者文化活动不仅是阅读推广的具体表现,也是强化高校文化教育功能的重要举措。本文通过对湖北民族学院近几年基于"世界读书日"而开展的读者文化活动的调查分析,对当今大学生的阅读内容和需求、阅读载体和方式、阅读习惯和动向进行了探讨,指出高校读者文化活动目标在激发学生的阅读兴趣、培养良好的阅读习惯、提高读者的信息素养、促进文献的充分利用上,要不断创新形式、丰富内容,在阅读推广中繁荣高校阅读文化建设。  相似文献

Psychometric reevaluation of the scientific attitude inventory‐revised (SAI‐II)

The central purposes of this study were to review the development and evolution of the Scientific Attitude Inventory (SAI) and then reevaluate the psychometric properties of the revised form of the SAI, the Scientific Attitude Inventory II (SAI‐II). The SAI‐II was administered to a convenience sample of 543 middle and high school students from five teachers in four schools in four school districts in San Antonio, Texas, at the beginning of the 2004–2005 school year. Confirmatory factor analysis on the full data set failed to support the existence of a 12‐factor structure (as proposed by the scale developers) or a one‐factor structure. The data were then randomly divided into exploratory [exploratory factor analysis (EFA)] validation and confirmatory [confirmatory factor analysis (CFA)] cross‐validation sets. Exploratory and confirmatory models yielded a three‐factor solution that did not fit the data well [χ² (321) = 646, p < .001; RMSEA = .061 (.90 CI = .054–.068); and CFI = .81]. The three factors were labeled “Science is About Understanding and Explaining” (13 items), “Science is Rigid” (6 items), and “I Want to Be a Scientist” (8 items). The α‐coefficients for these three factors ranged from 0.59 to 0.85. Whether these identified subscales are valid will require independent investigation. In this sample, and consistent with prior publications, the SAI‐II in its current form did not have satisfactory psychometric properties and cannot be recommended for further use. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 通过问卷调查、文献资料、数据统计等方法,对我院大学生体育能力的现状进行分析和研究。研究结果表明:我院学生在体育能力的几个方面都存在着不足,建议在体育教学中要加强体育理论教育,改进教学方法,注重学生自主健身的意识和能力的培养,同时也要加大资金的投入,建设学院的体育设施,以满足学生课外健身活动的需求。  相似文献

调查问卷以总编对杂志编辑工作的参与和评价为主要内容，共向32l位总编、副总编发放，回收有效问卷226份，有效回收率70％。通过对调查数据的分析发现：1)总编对杂志编辑工作的参与程度适中，且总编比副总编的参与程度更高；总编对杂志编辑工作的满意度相对较高，特别是对编辑的满意程度平均超过60％。2)总编对杂志编辑工作的参与主要表现在审定稿方面，对编辑部其他工作的参与度较低；对杂志编辑工作的满意度则主要体现为对编辑的满意度，特别是对编辑的工作态度比较满意；3)进一步的统计分析发现，总编对杂志编辑工作的参与程度越高，则对编辑工作的满意度越低。  相似文献

为了了解上海高校学报现状及存在问题,探讨有利于学报发展的最佳管理模式.根据教育部文件<高等学校学报管理办法>精神拟定调查问卷,对有效回收问卷进行统计分析.被统计分析的22家学报中:均被国内外有关检索系统收录,但仅1家进入SCI系统(扩大版);由主管校长领导的仅2家;设专职主编的仅2家;人员缺编10家;办刊经费≤1.5万元/期的13家,不由学校拨款的1家.主要影响因素为领导重视不够,缺少政策性支持,现行管理体制与学报发展不相适应.结果表明:大多数学报处于封闭式关门办刊和被动办刊状态.认为应真正实行直属主管校长领导、对"外"开放、独立建制的主编负责制,并积极尝试分专业联合办刊,逐步向实体的法人制企业化管理过渡.  相似文献   

Accountability in an Information Age: Opportunities and Risks for Records Management

Electronic records of government organizations are becoming increasingly important for accountability. Managing electronic records, however, proves to be difficult since information and communication technologies confront organizations with various opportunities and risks. In this paper the findings of an international expert survey on electronic records management are presented. These findings identify opportunities and risks for e-mail systems, database management systems, office systems, web technology systems and smart systems. 全媒体时代大学生获取体育信息的现状调查与分析

运用文献资料法、访谈法、问卷调查法和数理统计法,对北京、天津和山东地区6所高校1 200名在校大学生发放问卷,针对大学生获取体育信息的现状进行调查。结果显示：全媒体时代的到来,使信息的传递与获取呈现出多种形态;大学生获取体育信息的媒介主要集中在网络媒介和手机媒介;大学生获取体育信息的动机主要集中在爱好某项运动和喜欢体育明星上;大学生获取体育信息大多数是积极主动的,主要来源于大学生自身对体育信息的需求,从而在需求的驱动下让他们指向了传播媒介,以达到一定程度的信息满足。  相似文献
